I have just been in contact with Bang & Olufsen support regarding question if Beosound Core supports Deezer HIFI subscription, FLAC format (16-bit, 1,411 Kbps).
I received following answer:
"The built-in Deezer app on the Bang & Olufsen application only supports normal Deezer however via the Deezer app you can stream Hifi using Airplay 2 or Chromecast to the Beosound Core".
I definitely want the HIFI option (I do subscribe on it.. ) since I have connected beosound Core to my Beolab 5 optically.
Anyone else has other information about this or if it is planned/or even possible due to an update for Beosound Core?

It does support HiFi.

Interesting setup. Did you connect both powerlink (RJ- Powerlink Din) and optical (to COAX digital) simultaniously? Or just optical and another option (1 ) on the BL5?
AFAIK the digital input from the BL5 was only actived when "CD" command was send through the powerlink. But maybe that is only valid when you use the option 0 (factory setting) is used.

Dear,
May I know how to set "Deezer is set to CD in my system, making beolab 5 to automatically listen to optical port"? Such setting is in the B&O APP?
Can you give me a screenshot for the Deezer -> CD setting? Many thanks!
Daniel
Razlaw: My initial thought for writing to B&O, was that I felt a "different" in audioquality when playing in my office versus livingroom.
Setup in office: Beolink Converter NL/ML, Imac with Deezer app (can handle Deezer HIFI), Beosound 3 connected from 3,5mm output from Imac to the converter line-in...
Mikipidia:Have someone else switch sources for you, that way you don’t “know” what’s playing, hifi or not.
....and (volume) level match precisely - best using a soundmeter of some kind.
Even a slight difference in the volume level can fool you to think that one is better or worse than the other.

That’s done in the setup of the NL/ML converter. Set the ML, CD function to NL, Music function.
To be more complicated.
The Core in this setup is integrated with the BV7-55 via the NL/ML converter. So, the music goes through the network to the converter, which transfers it from digital to analog audio. Officially the NL/ML converter isn't, or shouldn't be Deezer HiFi capable.
Connecting the speakers directly to the Core (which might influence settings in software inside Core), the Core definitely is Deezer HiFi capable. Confirmed by my dealer and indicated by the " Flac" sign on the app. On the Deezer app you will see that the HQ indication (when playing on your iDevice changes to " HiFi", when you select the Core.
Beobuddy:To be more complicated. The Core in this setup is integrated with the BV7-55 via the NL/ML converter
The setup works like a "traditional" setup, like with an Ouverture/BS3000 or any other Audiomaster with ML. In this scenario the BV7 takes the commands through infrared, but the screen stays off. Only the display at the side of the BV7 shows what's playing. Here the NL/ML converter, combined with the Core, replaces the Ouverture/BS3000 and act the same the same way.
If you select CD and the Core starts playing, but you can overrule that by start using Airplay to the Core. You can also start using Airplay to the Core from standby and the converter will trigger the BV7-55 in audiomode (no screen).
If you stop casting or airplaying to the Core, then after some time, the system will go to standby, yes. The same counts when your playlist has been played and stops.
I am sorry for taking it up again, however I needed to confirm with Bang & Olufsen Support again, after information I have received from this forum. So I asked following:
Question:
jg1976:The built-in Deezer app on the Bang & Olufsen application only supports normal Deezer”
I really don't understand the above B&O support statement :-(
The B&O app is only a Deezer "controller", not a a Deezer "music player", that is controlling the B&O device's integrated music service, i.e. Deezer so Hifi or not at the app level is irrelevant.
When you have a subscription to Deezer Hifi, that your B&O device is Deezer HiFi capable and that the track you are playing is available in HiFi format, then the B&O app shows the FLAC logo close to the Deezer icon in the now playing screen as mentioned by other members.

Answer:
"That is correct the Bang & Olufsen App's Deezer integration only supports normal Deezer playback from the app itself, HiFi is supported via Airplay and Chromecast by your Beosound Core. "
"Just a last question, why is it stated ”FLAC” in the Bang & Olufsen App when playing from Beosound Core?
As I understand from your earlier reply this is not correct?"
"B&O app will indeed showcase that the reproduced file is FLAC as it is being reproduced from a Deezer HiFi account, but unfortunately due to the different bandwith that HiFi Deezer uses and the one that the B&O app can handle, the format will adapt to one that our App is able to stream.
We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused you."
What is your thoughts about this?
jg1976: What is your thoughts about this?
Seems incredible.
The app handles FLAC over DLNA.
I think the given answer simply isn't correct!
The app doesn't need to handle the stream, but only the information which comes with the music. If you use the app to start the music, you can walk away or shut off your app and the music keeps playing. So, the music doesn'r go through the app. As simple as that.
Bandwidth isn't an issue. Despite the 100Mb ethernetsocket, it has enough margin for Deezer HiFi. Do not forget that Deezer HiFi is the same as uncompressed music, like the stream that comes from a normal CD.
jg1976:Millemissen: Yes, sounds incredible for me too... Wonder what is going on at B&O.. A quick look at Deezers HIFI own homepage they refer to B&O as brand that all their product will support Deezer HIFI. Now this makes me wonder... I’ve also asked Deezer themselves a question if they have a specific product-list. No answer yet...

The device list can be seen here - I guess the Wikipedia has it right:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deezer
Besides - as far as I have understood the techology behind how Deezer streaming works, the stream is fetched to the device directly.....the app is merely the control point.
This means, that the ‘ability of the app to handle FLAC’ should not be a question here.
jg1976:What is your thoughts about this?
This topic was very interesting for me. I have a Deezer Hifi account and using the Core.
So I also contact the support. As mentioned in the forum they confirmed that when in the B&O App the symbol is FLAC, than the streaming is in Hifi Quality, see below!
As I have Deezer HiFi back, i did a small test:
Play a track (Space Oddity 2019 mix) from the Core itself (Deezer service).
Play the same track on the Deezer app running on an iPad streaming AP2 to the Core.
Monitor my ISP network traffic:
Conclusion:
On the left side you can see the Core/Deezer traffic. Shorter in height (kB/s) but longer in time than the right side which is the Deezer app playing the same track, caching the data much more (higher bandwidth usage, shorter time). Looking at the graphs we can easily see that the volume of transferred data is almost the same in both cases. I then assume that the Core effectively leverages Deezer HiFi.
From a listening perspective (I place myself in the sweet spot of my 5 speakers), my old ears do have a preference for the Core/Deezer service v.s. Deezer app/AP2/Core. Sound is sharper and warmer, specially for the bass.
I then listened to the same tack from a LP, 1973 edition ..... sound is even better to my ears.
Thanks for that, interesting.
No surprise that the vinyl was preferable.
Some of my older vinyl from the 70s/80s sounds much richer than streamed files.

Very interesting test, to see how different they act to optimize their usage of the connection.
Another interesting test would be to play the same song via BS Moment and have your BL18 connected via WISA. If I understand everything correctly, the digital signal would not be converted to analog until it meets the DAC in the speakers. How does that sound compared to BS Core, where I assume you used the built-in DACs.

Am I the only one becoming increasingly irritated with the Core’s lack of built-in support for high-rez streaming? See my other thread on the topic.
Perhaps we should all be getting Bluesound Node 2i’s. Mine arrives today. We’ll see if I can hear a difference in the higher rez music streams.
Just another sad example of B&O’s less than impressive software. Their hardware is the best though! But come on, B&O...
