Hey guys, hope you're all doing well. I had an account here a while back, but I've forgotten my info so I had to make a new account. In the past this forum was pretty helpful, so hoping it still is.

I was just wondering what you guys think about the Beolab 5000 wall speakers? They're an older piece so I know they're hard to find, but if you have them or have heard them I'm wondering about your general impressions especially their sound quality. I've been thinking about getting them, but their uniqueness make them a tough placement.

Thanks in advance.

Have a set in the bedroom and they are great.

Sound is warm and very easy to listen to.

I wouldn't hesitate getting another pair if I had the room.

I think they look amazing. From what I know you can only place them on a wall - that's the only placement I have ever seen of 5000s. If I recall you could get them powered or not. Either way they are easy to drive and from what I recall sounded similar to 6000s so no necessarily great for deep bass but a good refined sound for general distortion free listening :)

B&O in my life 😊:

  • Beolab 8002 + Beolab 2 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Office)
  • Beolab 6000 + Beolab 11 + Beosound Core with Essence Remote (Bedroom)
  • Beoplay A9 Mk2 (Living Room)
  • Beosound 1 with wireless dock (Portable)
  • Beosound Balance (Dining)
  • Beoplay H95 (Focused listening, travel)
  • Beoplay H9 (3rd gen) (retired)
  • Beoplay P6 (Portable)
  • Beotime wall clock (hallway entrance)
  • BMW X5 50i with B&O Audio Package (Commute/drive)

These floor stand ideas keep making the rounds every now and then. I suspect the speakers have no bass at all when not mounted on a wall.

I have owned a pair of BeoLab 5000s since the early 1990s.

- They are designed to be hung on the wall - this gives the best balanced sound.

- Positioning on the wall is critical, particularly height. They should be mounted with the tweeters at ear level with respect to your listening position. If you don’t, the clarity will be reduced. I moved home twice before I was finally able to mount them at the correct height. The transformation in tonal balance was amazing! Before, they were only good for background listening; after, suitable for critical listening,

- If you (very carefully!) remove the frets, you will be amazed at the quantity and depth of bass that comes from such small drivers and thin cabinet. This is due to bass porting and a built-in loudness circuit.

I love mine, but sadly they now serve as rear-Surround speakers over my sofa, with my BL5s as fronts and BL9s as normal-surrounds. I wish I had another room to correctly set them up.

I once did that......ages ago.

Using the stands from the BS 9000.

As I remember it, there was very little bas - so the project was soon cancelled.

The BL5000’s need the wall.....definitely.
