I have a few questions about the BeoSound Moment. I’m seeing a few used ones around and I’m curious about purchasing one. I can connect it to my BeoLab 17s
No AirPlay 2, correct? Just Bluetooth and multi room?
Is there Wisa built in or do you still need a beolab transmitter 1?
Will the Moment still receive software updates or is it not supported anymore from B&O?
Thoughts about it’s relevance in 2020?
Moment.
No airplay 2, bluetooth and BeoLink ( tunein, deezer and DLNA built in)
Wisa built in yes, no need for transmitter 1.
Don´t expect more software update of Beosound moment, since its EOL more then 1 year ago.
Beosound core and new remote (sept?) , and skip Wisa, cable your beolab 17 to get a nice working setup instead :)
Interesting.
Why was it such a product failure? Usually B&O supports products for many years. The Moment in not that old.

I love mine, it looks great, sure it could be better functionality but it’s stable now and does what it’s meant to do. Major plus for me is the line in so I can multi room stream the Beogram that’s connected to it.

I know…B&O virus has grown on me !
I liked the design and concept of the Beosound Moment. Combining local music and streaming music content in one device with an enjoyable and easy userexperience. Unfortunately Bang&Olufsen never managed to get it working fluently. Like so often B&O gave up and focused on new products, leaving customers back with an technical immature product.
When you are looking for software that does a really good job combining local and streaming content flawlessness and enjoyable l strongly suggest Roon Labs.
I still like mine, even though after moving it's only taken me a year to get around to making it work reliably!
Liking it even more now its working with Deezer Hifi and playing FLAC from there.
Yes there is the issue with the mood wheel on my own stuff, but still works with Deezer, so still a nice way to find new music.
Great information!
I guess if it has Bluetooth then it’s still can stream any music service from your phone. Does anyone know if it displays album artwork when you stream Bluetooth streaming from your phone?
Austin:Does anyone know if it displays album artwork when you stream Bluetooth streaming from your phone?
That’s disappointing! Guess I’ll just keep it on the wood front. At least that’s pretty. Ha.
Hi, I did open a ticket regarding the issue with covers and meta data not being provided for DLNA related media and as well asked about the Moodwheel and this is what I received today:
Our technical team has reviewed the information you provided and has provided a response to your issues:1. Album covers are being provided by a 3rd party companies and if they are missing, will mean they are no longer working with B&O. So unfortunately this is not a feature that will be fixed with future updates.2. For the moodwheel issue, this is something our technical team is aware of, and are currently working on to fix. Unfortunately we do not have a concrete date of the fix, but please be assured it is being worked on.
For issue#1 I asked them to re-consider or at least to provide alternative solution where users could either have subscription based services or utilise other freely available solutions. So for issue#2 the moodwheel that seems that this door hasn't been closed yet.
On the topic of software improvements, last year I had issues with stuttering audio as a few others had as well and got B&O support to push out Soundheart software version 2.2.31594 which got ride of the stuttering audio. What is the current confirmed version that is being considered stable; still the 2.2.31594?

My issue us that none of my dlna related media show album cover or artist image after I performed reset of the Moment and hence why I open a ticket. I believed that Gracenote was failover if teh dlna server didn't provide.... guess I was wrong on that one. But, that is good news which means it can be solved if it's not a new/old bug in Moment.
About the Expert mode for album and artist images; is that pulled from the audio files or from the folder and what is the naming standard then? Might be the reason why it's not working on my side as it should.
The support did confirm that Soundheart version 2.2.31594 is the latest and considered as the most stable.

A way to check if the Moment has proper pointers to artist image and cover art is to use a browser and go to:
http://<Moment SoundHeart IP Address>:8080/BeoContent/music/dlnaProfile/album/
You should see something like:
{"albumList":{"offset":0,"count":8,"total":8,"album":[{"id":"25","name":"An Awesome Wave","artistName":"Alt-J","artistNameNormalized":"Alt-J","artist":[{"id":"9","name":"Alt-J","nameNormalized":"Alt-J","dlna":{"id":"9"},"image":[{"url":"http://<DLNA Server IP Address:Port>/disk/DLNA-PNJPEG_MED-OP01-FLAGS00d00000/O0$2$20I32270.jpg","size":"large","mediatype":"image/jpg"}]}],"releaseYear":2013,"isCompilation":false,"genre":"","dlna":{"id":"25","url":""},"image":[{"url":"http://<DLNA Server IP Address:Port>/disk/DLNA-PNJPEG_TN-OP01-CI1-FLAGS00d00000/defaa/A/O0$1$8I781.jpg?scale=ORG","size":"large","mediatype":"image/jpg"}],"_links":{"/relation/track":{"href":"./25/track"},"self":{"href":"./25"}}}
The first "image" is the artist image (I'm in Expert mode), the second "image" is the album cover
Album cover is a metadata pulled from the audio track. I'm using Metadatics on OSX to set album covers, but there are other tools that do the job.
Artist image should be exposed by the same DLNA server than the one you use for your music, so the DLNA server must support Photos, for example Twonky can be used, but Minimserver can't as it does not support Photos.
DLNA Photos root directory must contain a directory named BEOARTISTS and this directory must contain .jpg with the exact name of the artist, e.g for Alt-J you must have a Alt-J.jpg (image types extensions are the one supported by the DLNA server).
Hope this helps.

Right, so in my case since I'm using container based Twonky setup I just have to add an additional directory for the photo resource and add it to the server or simply add the BEOARTIST directory to the existing data folder shared from the NAS to the Docker server. Well, that should work out :-) give it a try and see how it works out.
Thanks!

Interesting thing about this Soundheart version 2.2.31594, mine is as well on 2.2.29827 as mbolo's.
Pushed for a FW update, did the check, Moment reported that I have the latest software. LOL

Or maybe 2.2.31594 was only delivered to customers having issues with ML products and asking for a fix. I’ve asked B&O support for an update, in cases other issues are solved.

I decided to purchase the Moment as it was heavily discounted.
Odd question, but does B&O multiroom/network link require a B&O TV or processor? I have only B&O speakers with B&O ‘receivers’, but no B&O TV. Currently using Bluetooth or airplay.

No, I don't have a B&O TV or processor, but almost every room in my home has B&O audio, and they all work beautifully with NL.

Yeah, I’m excited! I’ll post pictures when it arrives.
Does that mean I could stream AirPlay 2 to my Beosound Essence Mk2 and then NL to my moment? Or would it have to be Bluetooth or how would that work?

mbolo01: If the Essence MK2 configuration is the same than for other NL products, you must be aware that AirPlay over Beolink is not set by default. You will have to open the Essence configuration, go to settings / Beolink / Audio Synchronisation and check AirPlay over multiroom.

Thanks for the hint!
It took me a bit to find this setting. The full path starting from the device in the B&O app is Product Settings -> Configure -> Settings -> Beolink -> Sound Synchronization. Once I enables it I found that I could start Airplay 2 on the bedroom Essence Mk II and join it from the office Moment. Oddly, the app is still saying "This Source does not support Multiroom" while still allowing me to link other NL devices.
That said, I always work in the B&O app; I never really use airplay, since NL works so well for me. I usually start things on one of my Moments and then expand it through the rest of the house. Touch to Join is absolutely fantastic.
laseralex:Oddly, the app is still saying "This Source does not support Multiroom" while still allowing me to link other NL devices.
Yes, this is odd. I reported it to B&O support who are still convinced that Airplay cannot be distributed over Beolink ..... I gave up, it works.
I was not using Airplay until Deezer released the gapless feature for their apps. Listening to albums with Deezer HiFi is now a real pleasure. I use Deezer on my iPad, send the stream via AP2 to my Core and I join the other NL products when needed.
If B&O add Deezer gapless support to their products, I may no longer need to use AP2, or occasionally to listen to other sources such Bandcamp, Soundcloud, etc ...
PS: sorry for the confusing menu items, I was translating from what is displayed in french.

Well, added additional directory to the Container by mounting folder /artists which contains the folder BEOARTISTS and in Twonky server I've added the /artists as a photo folder but now show so far for the single image that I've added to the BEOARTISTS folder. Does Twonky expect mini res of any kind? Currently set the Picture Resolution is set to Auto but that would be for video; but can't find anything related to photos/pictures.
kimhav:but now show so far for the single image that I've added to the BEOARTISTS folder
Sorry to ask basic questions, but to be sure:
Do you see the pictures through the Twonky UI?
Have you triggered a manual rescan of your DLNA library ?
Lol, found the error; after adding the directory in Twonky I forgot to check the checkbox.... images shows now; so going to do a re-scan on the Moment.
Also, is these images also to show when you make a search for local DLNA material; currently I got artist image for the Deezer material but just a grey box for the DLNA related in the search result.
kimhav:Also, is these images also to show when you make a search for local DLNA material; currently I got artist image for the Deezer material but just a grey box for the DLNA related in the search result.
When the Moment rescan is complete, you should see the artist picture when browsing your collection as well as when searching for content.
When in Expert mode, Grey artist's tile is the symptom of missing local images (DLNA Photo) or in Gracenote (that we will no longer have)
DId a rescan and the image didn't show up which it did after I did a rebuild (which also scans...) DNLA content; so either a hiccup or a rebuild might be needed but I'll monitor this. But, I would as you suggest think that a rescan would be enough.
Makes sense to enable the expert mode since we don't get any artist images and as well no meta data enrichments from Gracenote which works out fine for me since I make use of Bliss for automatic tagging and caring of my music archive and when Bliss doesn't do the trick I make use of mp3tag (which tags flacs also).
So big thanks for the help Mbolo01!
kimhav:So big thanks for the help Mbolo01!
About checking whether the scan worked out proper by using the previously URL is it expected that this file would contain ALL albums? From what I can see it's just a limited output which is being provided.
kimhav:From what I can see it's just a limited output which is being provided.
You can suffix the http://<Moment SoundHeart IP Address>:8080/BeoContent/music/dlnaProfile/album/ URL with ?offset=x&count=y to see more than the default
Sample:
http://<Moment SoundHeart IP Address>:8080/BeoContent/music/dlnaProfile/album/?offset=0&count=1000 will show you the first 1000 albums (I don't remember the upper limit for count, but there is one)
http://<Moment SoundHeart IP Address>:8080/BeoContent/music/dlnaProfile/album/?offset=100&count=500 will show you 500 albums starting with the 101 of the list.
