Beolab speaker question

Hi, I have a beovision 11 which I have beolab 18's as front speakers. I have a pair of beolab 3 speakers I want to add as rear speakers. I have power link to rj45 converter. can I daisy chain the right rear off the right front beolab 18 or do I have to get the cable back to the connection to the TV? I want to do the same with the left as I do not have much space in the buried trunking for my cables. Many thanks ed

Assuming you want to use the BL3’s as rears (or probaly more correct as surround) speakers, you must tell the tv, the surround processor, that the must receive that sound signal. Therefore they need a seperate connection.

Daisychaining them the way you suggest, wiil just make them another pair of front speakers.

But you can daisychain the fronts L <-> R - and you can daisychain the surrounds L <-> R.

Excellent thanks. Much appreciated. I'll run the cables and connect direct to the TV. Just to be clear am I correct in thinking I should select them as surround not rear.

Yes correct.

If you don’t have a lot of cable room, get a short rj45 to pl and go pl-3 to the rear as its a very thin cable and split it at the rear again and set the left surround and tight surround accordingly (also on the speakers)

In general you call the speakers in a 5.1 setup = front left - center - front right - surround left - surround right (and the sub).

If you have a 7.1 setup the additional speakers are called rears and are placed behind you, and not like with the surrounds approx at the sides of where you sit.

Please notice, that these things often are mixed up!

If you have a 5.1 setup, you have surrounds.

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

To build on what MM and Mikipedia said:

Each Powerlink socket on your TV carries 2 sound channels.

So you can connect 2 speakers to each Powerlink socket, each speaker with a unique role.

You tell the TV which role you want each speaker to have.

So Mr. Watkins can connect exactly as he asked:

TV Powerlink 1 > BL18 (front left) > BL3 (Surround left)

TV Powerlink 2 > BL18 (front right) > BL3 (Surround right)

Mr. Watkins - does your BV11 have WISA? If so, you may wish to minimise your cabling and experiment with sending sound to the BL18s wirelessly, and use cables only for the BL3s.

Caveat: WISA may not be as reliable as a cable in your environment.
