Good afternoon,

i've just bought a beautiful beo5 for 35€(!!), i know that's a 10 years old product, but i want to try to

use it to control my BV10, beosound essence and some lutron rania dimmers.

i've installed a the CT 6.84 on a win10 pc, but when i connect the remote to the pc the ct doesn't recognize

the beo5...  I can see the beo5 on the section "hardware and devices" on the pc.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Unfortunately the Beo5 does not work on Windows 10 64bit.

I use ORACLE VirtualBox with Windows XP, on my Windows 10 64bit machine and that works perfectly.

It depends on the Firmware version as to which configuration tool you need to use.

Take a look here https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/13349.aspx The table explains which firmware works with which configuration tool.

And remember it will only work on 32Bit Windows OS.

Thank you so much!
With virtualbox I solved the compatibility issue and now I’m able to configure it.
just a last question, I’ve a two beosound essence (I can connect to them the IR EYE) and a beosound moment, I don’t see them in the list

of product of the CT, do you know if there are some compatibility problems with this systems?

Hi Matteo,

I am so glad that helped.  Unfortunately I only have Masterlink products so can't help. I would start a new thread specifically for that saying which CT you are using. Someone may be able to give you a workaround.

I have 4 virtual machines with various CTs loaded so I can easily swap from my Beo5's to my Beo6's.

Hi Matteo

I am having problems attaching the Beo5 via VirtualBox. It's a Win10 64bit with Win XP 32bit in Virtual Box. I can see it from the list of USB devices in VirtualBox, but VirtualBox keep reporting that it failed to attach it when I click on it.

Dit you experience that? Any hints to how I can solve it?

Hi  djeric,

What version of the Configuration Tool are you using? What software version is on your Beo5? (Press red dot button and middle button together) In the menu that comes up, press Info. If it is SW version 1.42 or older it will only work with CT5.12. If it is SW 1.45 or newer it will no longer work with CT5.12 and need CT6.00 or newer.

I believe if it is SW1.42 and you program it with CT5.12 it automatically updates the Software Version then you need to use CT6.00 or newer.

Once we know this we can help with the USB connection issue.

It was the wrong CT version I had installed onto the VM. I now have CT5.12 installed and 1.42a on the remote.

It however does not change anything in regards to the USB connection problem. VirtualBox still reports that it cannot attach the USB device. Any input to this?

It might be worth trying to run the CT tool as "Administrator".

Also, does the Beo5 show up in the Device Manager in the VM? Does it show whether the driver has installed properly.

I moved the VM image from a Windows 10 to a Windows 7 machine and that worked. There must be something with the VirtualBox settings/driver on the Win 10 machine.

Anyhow - now that the setup i working - should I upgrade to latest CT version (6.84?) or stick to 5.12?

I would say that if it is all working and all the hardware you need to control is in the CT then I'd stick with CT5.12. However, if you find hardware is not available the newer CT would be advisable as more is added with each new version.

I would make a new virtual machine with the newer CT (I believe you can copy the VM you already have instead of going through all the steps) That way you can remove CT5.12 from the new VM and instal a newer CT and move from one to the other without having to uninstal/reinstal the CT each time.

Using a newer CTshould update the Software Version on the Beo5. If it does, it may no longer be compatible with CT5.12.
