Hi Ken,

If you remove the Beo4 battery cover and batteries there should be a label with the Type No. / Serial No. in the battery bay.

There may be a way to see it on screen - perhaps andybandy knows.

Beo4 type 1710 is introduce in 2010. then a smal upgrade in april 2012 with type 1712.

I cannot understand what new top plate is. So not realy sure what the different. Maybe only some smal change in the production with a new aluminium top plate you dont realy will see the different.

Sorry cannot help more=)

But Beo4 with the joystick is the last beo4 made. So if you think about your list with MK1, MK2 and so one. its a MK4. No more after that.

You have also the exclusive beo4 cinema for a period, that only was sold to smal dealer out there.

Can de Beo4 control modern Bang & Olufsen products ? or is there a cut off date?

Since a Beo4 is ir-only, most new products can’t be controlled natively.

However, you can e.g. connect an ir-receiver to a BS Core (or even to a BL50/90) and use ir-control via Beo4/navi.

Please specify, what you aim for.

I know that the Beoremote one came out in 2015 and was IR & BT,

I just would like to know as I have a Beovision 7-40 mk5 and can use my Beo4 mk 4 to control my Tv and stereo.

f I upgrade to een a newer tv can I still control my older other B&O products, as I have read  that the new beoremote is BT only ?

The first BeoRemote One (these are rare nowadays) was ir-only.

The current (including the one with Netflix/Amazon buttons) is ir and bt.

With the BROne, that you but new now, you can control both types - however you will have to switch mode each time you switch from old to new products.

it seems that the coming HaloRemote will not have any ir-capacity.

If you count out these add-on receivers, yes!

And the BROne (still) has the ir-sender....oh, and the Essence Remote has support for ir, too.

What is the best, mk3 (DTV) or MK4 (Joystick) ?

What are the pro's and con's ?

The Beo4 with joystick was designed for use with the new generation Beovision 11/V1 and Beosystem4 (BV12). it is used to scroll through the menus and press to select.

The older Beo4’s do not work with this generation (scrolling a.o.)

Apart from that there is no functional difference

BV Harmony 65 / Eclipse 55 / BL 50 / 19 / 18 / BS 2 all brass

BV Horizon 48 / V1 40 / BL 17 / Beoplay S3 all black

V1 / BL 3 / BS Essence MKII / Beoplay A3 all white

BS Moment / BS 3000 / BS 3200 / BL 400 all silver

Headphones / bluetooth speakers / BLC NL-ML / BLGateway

I know…B&O virus has grown on me !

Interesting, the big advantage of the Beo4 was that you could find the buttons in the dark.

Do you know why they changed the layout of some buttons for the Beo4 mk4 ?

Was there a reason ? List, Text, Stop, Exit, Play have all changed position.

Record has gone.

As said the Beo4 was adjusted for use with new Beovision interface in that time. This required some other rearrangements of button’s also.

If you do not have the Beovision then you are best of with the version without the joystick

So I gather that the mk4 is used with a smart tv.

I have a 7-40 mk5 and 7-32 mk5 in the menu I can select the mk3 or mk4

They both have the Beo4 mk4 joystick, I just wonderd what the advantage is of the joystick version with these tv's ?

Depends... I have 6 Beo4 MK2/MK3 and got a MK4 .... I found it very annoying that they changed the placement of buttons next to the volume control.

When you are used to press stop/exit without looking at the remote I cannot recommend having both MK2/MK3 and the MK4 .

If you don't have a product where the navigation button is needed why consider the MK4

Go for BROne or MK2/MK3

Have got the mk 4 , but want to downsize.

Would it be better to sell the tv's with the mk3 or mk4 ?

Maybe keep the mk4's voor my next B&O tv ?

Just interested why Bang and Olufsen changed the layout ?
