I recently bought a vintage B&O system from 1988. The speakers distorted at high volume/frequency which I largely fixed with new contacts to the amp and new wiring. I still have a residual distortion which is not too surprising after 32 years. Can anybody suggest where I can obtain repair/replacement kits. Units are 5" and 3" from passive panel speakers.
Which model of speakers are we talking about?
Martin
Beolab 3000 Passive
Beolab models are not passive.
I'll need to do a bit more research on the exact model. There's no marking on the speakers themselves so I'll attach an image.
Alex.
Second image to follow.
Images pasting onto here but not appearing on post. Need to try something else.
Speakers are rectangular, 45cm wide by 38cm high.Metal plate 15cm wide extends on left or right side depending on speaker. Rest of area covered by removable fabric cover under which are the 3" (top) and 5" speaker unifts. They are wall mounted and came with a mounting strip. They are from 1988. I'll try to find a photograph online.
I've found a photograph on ebay which calls them
They are the newest version of Beovox 3000 (Type 6716).Check carefully that the woofers cones move without rubbing.
Capacitor kit for the crossover filters here:https://www.beoparts-shop.com/product-category/beovox/beovox-3000-type-6716/
Thanks for this; I really appreciate it. The no. 6716 is on a label on the back.
What about replacing the foam rings and cones?
Bronowski: What about replacing the foam rings and cones?
Unless burned or physically damaged the drivers are usually fine, and no foam surrounds are used if I remember correctly.
Gently cleaned the speaker cones and a fair amount of dirt came off. Sound is definitely sharper. What I did notice is that the right speaker sounds ok but the left speaker has a hum coming from it. Can't hear much if anything from the left tweeter. Could this be due to the capacitor unit needing replaced on the crossover filter which you suggested should be replaced? The speakers are still in good condition and useable but need 'a nudge'.
