With great joy,I see a clear return to the design language of late 70s-early 80s.

I just loved it at first sight Smile

You see..It's designed by Torsten Valeur a David Lewis Designer, so the classic B&O design DNA  is running through the veins of this speaker.

Henryk, the spec sheet says something about it being part of the Connected speakers (range, I guess).

Suggests to me that this is the name of the "new" platform?

Which raises the question about whether NL and Connected speakers will play together.

Thanks Henrik,

This looks superb, I love the retro B&O styling.  I am expecting my Level to arrive any day now...

I have been working on the connection details - there is a 3.5mm audio input under the lift-off charging cover on the back of the Level.  You can use this cable to connect the Level to any existing Bang and Olufsen music system with a Powerlink output (full details to follow on my YouTube channel shortly!):

Kind regards, Steve.

Yes that is correct - but netradio is only Bang & Olufsen Radio - or your favorite through BT, CC or AP2

Hi Henrik, good to hear! Without NL I have no use for it. It looks so good, I need one to be honest.

Are you sure about NL, as this was promised for the Balance a year ago already. Even for B&O a two year time frame for a update is really long. The hardware should already be in both Balance and Level?

Also I notice there is no more native music service embedded (Deezer. TuneIn), so it cannot function the same as a BS1/2, M3/5, A6/9 and others. Will watch your review first before asking more Big Smile

The statement about NL is direct from software engineers - and the launch date should hold - I agree on the timeframe on Balance its a joke - but the hardware and everything is ready on these products.

Its correct that no Deezer or TuneIn - TuneIn is swapped with Bang & Olufsen Radio, and if you want to play deezer its either through BT, AP2 or CC as for now.

Thanks Henrik,

Did not know about B&O Radio as a new service. Does not show up as a service on any of my current systems.

In the tech sheet of the Level, Beosonic is also mentioned as a feature. Any idea what that is?

I guess it is the same radio service as used in ie BS5 and which supports BBC.

As I remember, Tunein and BBC has a dispute over something. So in that perspective it makes sense.

Is dlna supported?

Does it have a “touch to join” button?

Any idea why NL is still missing? It cannot be so difficult as it’s included in so many products...

And what are the WiFi specs? I think it is is important for a device that is supposed to move all over the house, it should be strong and should support mesh networks which is not what other B&O products have been good at so far.

No Touch to Join, no NL.

Q3 or Q4 according to Henryk, who I have no reason to disbelieve.

Both the Balance and Level do not have an actual physical touch to join button (or somewhere to gesture at the unit)....so quite how they restore Touch to Join remains a mystery.

No NL now for 1 year for the Balance - it does suggest to me that in some way they are moving post-NL.

Pretty sure that existing NL products will retain support for a long time, so I'm not worried.

But there remains a vacuum of information as to what / how they will fulfil what was outlined in the post Balance press release (about some of your favourite features being restored in future updates).

The play/pause button should do the « touch to join » job like for most of the Beolink products isn’t it?

The big Q is whether balance/level will eventually feature some kind of “NL mk2”. There was an announcement about a new audio engine and future multi-room support. This could also explain why it’s taking so long to release this feature. Even apple’s release of airplay-2 was delayed by a year, so initially airplay-2 devices didn’t have this feature. I remember the longest “wait”...

NL-2 could allow native stereo pairing (not cc) and connecting to a stage or beovision. This would bring b&o to the same level as sonos and beyond what anyone else is offering.

While i’d love this NL-2 to come alive, this suspicion also gives me pause on buying any more BS1 or BS2 or other NL devices. I may be left with an outdated NL soon and a future mkx of these devices may feature the new audio engine.

A bit more transparency by b&o of this jew audio engine and plans for level/balance would be helpful.

I also suspect that as the Balance and the Level are on the same new "Mozart" platform, that the development for NL will be delivered at both time.  My guess it that they wanted the level to market first whilst they were still developing the NL functionality , and might as well 'kill 2 birds with 1 stone'

I like the level and the intro video, so thanks to the Baron ;-)

Would like to know more about the "software roadmap" and if this includes the ability to use Mozart platform speakers as rears, etc. Will obviously find out more in time.

I would imagine that anything that support the BeoRemote One BT ought to also support the Essence remote: both are Bluetooth controllers, and the Essence uses a standard BT profile.  (I use one to control my computer volume!)

I, too, have them "all over on the walls."  To be honest, the Essence remote is what led to everything else in my signature.  Such a fantastic little device.

Alex, how do you compare and contrast your 9 Essence remotes to your 1 Halo? Not to hijack the thread, but I’m curious on your thoughts of the two products

Also, everyone, any idea why some of the products support TuneIn, while others such as Level do not? Why not just have uniformity across all the devices? It’s just software, not hardware. I don’t understand it. I like TuneIn!

Still crossing my fingers for native TIDAL Connect support.

Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote

Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA

Been to my B&O store yesterday afternoon. Both Level versions were already there and I must say they look and sound very good. Building quality as supposed to be and size and weight is nice.

Apparently there's a new speaker in this same line as Balance and Level coming out in the following months. What I've been told is that it's more column-like, so maybe a little balance (mimicking the BS2 and BS1).

B&O are removing TuneIn from all products this year. Moving to their own NetRadio service. I've been told the Essence Mk2 that I have will receive the update. It's something to do with BBC licensing with TuneIn I think.

I would also be surprised, but they did already release at least one major update since Moment was discontinued.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to manage a home full of devices that all have different streaming services.  I purchased a large collection of B&O equipment with the expectation that it would continue to work together.  :-/

The Essence MK2 gets updates all rhe time - and that is discontinued long ago.

At least having the same radio service on all products would be nice, would be a progress.

Is there somewhere (other than my BS5) where I can see the stations included in the service?  As a long time BS5 owner, it pains me to admit that the BS5 isn't great at managing the 100s or 1000s of stations currently in the list.

I actually bought an old beolink pc2 a couple of years ago to have on standby just in case TuneIn shutdown! TBH I was always surprised they chose to rely on a 3rd party service for internet radio, I guess the cost of maintaining a directory of streams was more than paying for tunein. Pretty short sighted though.

I wonder whether B&O will use the existing net radio service as used in the bv11 and v1 or whether will it be some sort of chromecast implementation for radio streams.

I do need something new at some point but I do want to kwwp my Easence remotes. Those were a strike of genius ....

Might visit my dealer on this. While everywhere the ships are sinking we here in Boston just observed our local guy move into a new store and splitting off another store to be opened soon in walking distance from my house.

What I am also curious about is stereo with 2 speaker.

I do use Spotify Connect with my essence and that works very well.  If they could replicate that experience with the new speaker they are launching I would cave in.

Having high hopes for the Balance update and also this ...

cheers

Let's note that the latest Balance update has introduced the Balance's own (TuneIn independed) radio stations
