Beosound Core & Beolink Passive

 

Hi,

 

trying to setup outdoor speakers with a beolink passive and a beosound core. Searched and found that I need a special PL cable. Contacted Steve at Sounds Heavenly, unfortunately he can not supply the right cable until this autumn. When reading manuals I find that part no. 6271225 should be the one but I've also seen comments that this is not 100% working.

Is there special wiring to get the core and passive to work together?

 

Any input much appreciated

From the diagram, it would appear that the Passive needs the 'Power Up' and 'Overload' connections.

I had some problems with the passive and the Core. It worked ok but it wasn’t powering on and off when shutting down the Core.

I had outdoor passive speakers attached to a Beolink Passive. Attached to this via Powerlink (Passive) was an Essence 2 (RJ45) with the correct cable (6271225). It all powered up and worked as it should and the Passive turned off when the Essence turns off. All good.

When I replaced the Essence with a Core the Passive would turn on and do its thing however it would not power down when I put the Core into standby. The Passive remained on. I have tested it on 2 Cores and they both did the same thing.

I contacted B&O support and they have replied with the following

'After reviewing the case, we suspect the cause for this behaviour is that the Beosound Essence cuts the 5V on PIN1 when entering standby when the BeoSound Core does not. To fix this, the "old" powerlink plug will need some modification. If you were to cut PIN1 and move the lead on PIN4 to PIN1 instead, this should rectify the issue and restore the system to its previous functionality.

In short you’ll need a specially modified cable if you want full functionality including on/off.

that is a neat device, no need for crimping or soldering.  And you can reverse and shift cables.

had ordered a cable from Bosscom with the right wiring (except yellow and grey) that came today.

Peeled of 5 cm of the outer plastic shield, cut the yellow and grey and soldered the yellow to the grey.

Not very tidy but it will have to do for now.

If someone need a PowerLink/Passive cable(except for Core) in any length it's part no 01349911 (1 m).

Or just ask steve from sounds heavenly our sponser he has made a lot of cables for me including these...no need to peel ships worldwide

Do you also get a hiss/whoosh noise from the speakers when first turning on? I get this on my essence mk2/passive and the core/passive.
