Hello everyone,

I've just bought my first B&O system and i'm new to all this so please bear with me! I bought a Beogram 1102, Beomaster 901 and some Beovox S25 speakers however i'm having a problem with one of the speakers and wondered if anyon can give me any advice on how to fix the problem? Basicly one of the speakers is really... really quiet with no bass whatsoever.

I took the back off the speakers to compare the insides and found what I think is the problem. From what I can see there are 2 connections which secure the capacitor to the metal speaker frame and it seems as the though the 'washers' (one red and one black so i presume they are terminals) have come loose some how on the broken pair of speakers. I have uploaded some photographs which show the comparison via the link below. There are 3 images of the faulty speaker and two of the working one. Firstly, is this likely to be the problem, and if it is, does anyone know how I can fix the washers back or secure the connections in place to the metal frame?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Rich.

Looks like your wires coming from the voice coil are shorted to the basket (driver metal frame), Clean with Iso alcohol where the fiber washers was attached, clean the basket and the fiber washer. Glue back on with  epoxy, make sure no wires touch the basket and make sure all wires are undamaged

Hi Søren, thanks very much for the reply. One question, do you mean just regular IS PROPYL ALCOHOL like the stuff used in cake decorating?

Like this stuff... ISO PROPYL ALCOHOL IPA

Cheers, Rich

Right, never knew it was used for cake decorating, normally you can get it in electronic shops, probably the industrial version, I use the industrial version, but get it for free in the print shops I visit, the main thing is to get the to gluing surfaces, grease and dust free, you can also use mineral spirit but the IPA is better in my opinion.

Hi there, just giving you an update on where i'm at with the speaker problem!

I did as you suggested and secured the washers back with epoxy after cleaning with ISO alcohol. Unfortunately it has made little difference. The speaker maybe slightly louder but there is still no bass at all and it sounds very quiet compared to the other one.

There is some corrosion around the core, could this have anything to do with it? See pic below

I read another post about some one having a 'seized woofer'? What exactly is this and could this be the case with mine? The cone does feel slightly slightly tougher compared to the working speaker. The working speaker has more 'bounce' when I gently push it if you know what I mean.

Cheers,

Rich

Do not operate that speaker anymore, the voice coil is scraping against the magnet, to check this, with a very sharp knife, cut of the dust cap like this

Then cut a piece of thin acetate in a 10 mm. strip, this strip you should be able to move freely, in the gap between the coil and the magnet, all the way to the the bottom and all the way around (see red arrow), if not your magnet is loose or you driver has been refoamed out of center, you will not be able to move it all around and/or all the way to the bottom  For refoaming look here. For loose magnet look here,

Or ship the driver to Orava, he loves to fix loose magnetsSmile
