My beolab 7.1 is dead. Had the technician who repaired my Beovision come and take a look.

He found the coil on the board on the right of the pic was damaged. He bypassed the coil saying that its not really necessary as its mainly used to smooth the electricity?

Then there were problems on the left board and he was unable to repair it saying that my best bet is to replace the entire board. Is it really worth it? I can imagine the cost of a board from B&O to be very, very steep and I also imagine its impossible to get a second hand board from somewhere?

I've really had a bad run lately and cannot afford to continue  forking out money for repairs. Perhaps its better just to leave it or dump it?

Ben

Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be an LED light at the back of the Beolab when its switched on?

Please note mine is the first version of this speaker.

Thanks

Ben

There is no LED on the 7.1. Was your electrician able to provide you with the info regarding the cause of the initial fault on the speker?

Right now it is quite hard to judge from the picture as it looks like the pcb has been heated up from several locations. Is this due the repairs or did the pcb have these markings already prior?

Regards!

The LED is in the rear of the BeoLab7.1 where the sockets are. There is a small rubber bung that you have to remove to see the LED.

Thanks Opman .....I found the LED and its also dead...absolutely nothing.

The short was created by a lizard on the board on the left...it got fried and burnt part of the board away and probable other parts of it.

I've contacted 2 B&O agents for a price on a replacement board......still waiting for a reply. Very frustrating.

For anyone that is interested....a new chassis for the Beoab is R30 000.00 which is about 2500 pounds. Luckily I was sitting down. So that puts in end to that!!

@Valve...any lizard that comes near my house has a death wish and it won't be death by B&O either!!!

Pre-loved is the way to go.

Would your insurance cover your lizard damage ?I remember you had a good experience with your insurers before.

Hi Eugenio

My Beovision was damaged by lightening so the insurance replaced it with a Beovision 11 and they took the old Beovision away with the stand and the Beolab I'm afraid. So unfortunately I can't help you with parts otherwise I would have been happy to.
