Picked this beocord 1200 up today don't no to much about these its in mint condition and perfect working order and it also came with a load of reels to go with it, i bought it to go with the 5000 system which it does not look to out of place.

I have one in white, with one reel that JandyT kindly gave to me of Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
You're lucky it's working. The belts have usually slackened so that there is much wow and plenty 'o flutter. My counter didn't work either, but new belts from Martin sorted that one out.
What's the soundstage like from those Beovoxes? Must be a bit narrow?!
Yes i do find you have to be positioned in front of them as they are very directional
Oh Marc you have me crying here, BL 5000 system, then BL 8000 sys, and now this, I have wanted one for at least 3 years, but non turns up here in the wild west. Enjoy it
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Ha! Have you not recorded over it yet? Craig gave it me, he's the one to blame!

Marc you are really getting the goodies !
The Beocord 1200 is a fine deck, congratulations. They always seem to have issues with the brake/back tension system; mine did also have some problems with a blown capacitor in the playback electronics...
The correct model for a Beolab 5000 after 1968 would be a Beocord 1800, which is very similar to the more elaborate 2400. Most are half track models, but can play back quarter track tapes thanks to an extra head. Both the 1200 and the older series has Bogen heads which are great sounding but fast wearing.
Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.
Aw how nice Cleve. I'm still trudging along here. Been better but many people are in a worse situation than me. Mustn't grumble.

Somewhere in my past life I had a pre-recorded 1/4" Sergeant Peppers in the original box etc. ............I've never knowingly gave it away or sold it and so, theoretically, I still have it somewhere!
Last seen ~1980, chances of seeing it again, slightly less than winning the lottery!
EDIT: just checked, and if the version for sale on ebay is genuine then it's only worth £75, I feel (slightly) better!
Ban boring signatures!
Somewhere we have half a dozen Beatles original tape albums. From recollection two were ruined by part over-recording with a twin track machine many many years ago.

Watched a fascinating documentary recently about how ELO used a Beocord Reel to Reel to do their multi tracking.
Welcome back stranger!!

Hey Peter! Just popped in Good to see you still here. You must have the patience of Job!
Just here to make sure we all play nicely - and to keep my eye on the vintage bits and pieces! But you and Puncher are not here that much!

Oh, I'm still here to dispute the odd nonsense post now and then!!
I've lost patience with a lot of stuff but will still chip in to interesting topics (and bun fights)!

I saw that too. It was really great, though Jeff Lynne used it mostly before they were called ELO. He did start his producing career with a 2000 Deluxe

That's good. The newer stuff has is out of my reach and therefore my interest in the brand has greatly reduced. Still got all the same stuff I had but not quite as enthusiastic as I was before. I do pop in occasionally, but the community isn't like it used to be in the good old days, so I don't stop long.Hope you, Jo and Eleanor are well.
I have one of them Søren Lying dormant in my er ... dormitory bedroom.

I am happy with my Beocord 1800 which has almost identical performance, it enjoys a revival in my bedroom - where it plays back 7" reels recorded on my half track B77 HS
The 1200 was one of the last B&O reel to reel decks. Very nicelystyled and designed so it could be used upright. It did not have the performance of the 1800 or 2400 which were just about professional machines but served a useful purpose.I have had a 1200, 1500 and a 2400 but have given them all to Tim who appreciates them! Always seemed just a bit too inconvenient for me!!
Søren, "fast wearing" ?Have the Bogen heads had general issues if need of replaycement ?Almost impossible to find today I asume. ?

My re-capped M75 are my precious diamonds.

Don't worry too much - they were the best heads available back then, along with the Woelke heads that came with Revox and Studer decks.
I have used my 1800 for lots of hours with both new, well calendered (polished) tape and older abrasive (think AGFA PER525, BASF LGR50 and Scotch 203) and they still seem fine; I just know that they are made of soft permalloy, but the wear time should still reside in the 200-300 hours region (if not more; the soft Revox heads last a little longer.)
If the heads are pretty worn you should still be able to pull some extra life out of them through a relapping (albeit expensive.)
300 hours is nothing.Consinder a person that bought a recorder 1968 and played an onehour tape everyday, the tapeheads on that machine would be really bad 1969.Which some 40 years later would mena there is a huge possibility that all heads are in horrible shape now.How do we identify a bad tapehead ?Sounds bad ?Impossible to trim BIAS to accuired treble level ?Christian
I saw a documentary years ago, he was re producing ELO music and he pointed it out sitting on the floor of his studio.
