Hello beolovers,

I have a good opportunity to buy a BV5 (2005), DVD1, HDDR2, the small B&O furniture under the BV5 and a beo4, for less than 1400 €.

I will use it in a secondary room, for audio (I plan to connect a playmaker if possible) and DVD.

I am in love with the design, but never touch one. I red a lot on the forum about it, can you just give me some advices, thinks to control carefully before buying ?

I am just. A little bit afraid with the picture quality ( not HD model with the DVI). So for those owning one, please let me know ?

Thanks

Eric

Well it's a good price for a lovely television and accessories. I bought mine from Lifestyle (all black with motor stand) and I asked the same questions you're asking. There was a 50-50 split of opinion. Some said it was crazy to spend that sort of money on an eight year old television and others bemoaned the lack of hdmi connections and aged plasma panel. All I can say is that I had an avant Rf before and I love my Beovision 5. If you're not watching from too close a distance the picture is superb. A good digibox or dvd will give you better picture than a lot of the cheaper televisions that are available today, and eight years is a long time in television technology!

Sound is superb and I love how it looks, especially in black! I'll use mine until it goes wrong and then maybe look at a beovision 11 but I'm in no hurry to do that!

Hi

I have bought one for a room and I don't regret my purchase at all. I use it with my beosound 9000 (audio only through masterlink) and the sound is really good for a small room. Really deep bass.

I recently played MIB3 on it with my PS3 and the sound was incredible compared to my philips led tv. The quality of the image was really good for  a non hd tv.

Perfect design, considered to be the best b&o tv set for its sound (after the avant, same system).

When the plasma will be dead  (not for tommorrow, only 56 days of use), I will put a new tv in front of it and keep the rest.

For the tv only, don't spend more than 1000 euros.

No HD and no HDMI. Takes a lot of energy (electric bill). Plasma that goes grey by age and looses its former brightness. Heavy, thick and probably almost impossible to connect to new sources like Apple TV, bluray etc (no HDCP?).

It is a beautiful set and that's about it. I think you know all this already and I understand that you like the look and it's sound. Just think about the problems using it in a modern setup. If you can live without that - then buy it if you want.

But also take into account: can break anytime and you won't get the money back.

Michael is right. I bought a 6-22 with dvi inputs, and it was a total nightmare to connect to anything relevant. I ended up with an 8-26 which had 1 hdmi port, and I'm jolly glad I did.

For your information , your hdmi tv won't last forever.

The design of the bv 5 will last and according to the fact that the screen are thinner and thinner, it will be easy to change the screen and use another one.

It is far more than a tv, it is a piece of furniture !

I have a 2007 BV7.40 , same look than the last one and he looks old fashioned compared to this timeless tv.

And my furniture like 10-46 has a much better picture than your 7. Handy for a TV!

I had a 7-40 mk 3 which wasn't bad, but not in the same league as a 10 picture wise. Enjoy

better picture maybe but your sound is a pity and if you talk about furniture, your 10.46 is just a tv set, it's not a furniture.

It seems that you have never seen a bv5 with its cabinet.

The screen of your bv10 is already outdated and you won't be able to change it as its cabinet is too thin.

If I want to buy the "best picture quality" I don't buy a b&o tv set, my philips led is far better and costs me less.

You'd rather buy a bv11 tomorrow and a bv 12 the day after, nevertheless you will never have the best picture.

The bv5 will never be outdated, it's a masterpiece.

A bv10,bv11, 7.40 mk1/2....25 they all look the same.

It's my point of view, you are not obliged to share it.

I have seen and admired a few 5's, and it's obvious where the 10 and 11 gestated from.

God speed
