Hi,

I have a Beosound 5 and Beolab 5 connected to a Beovision 7-55 in the same room.

There is two options in feeding the Labs 5 with sound from the Beosound 5:

1. Thru Masterlink from Beomaster 5 to Beovision 7-55 and powerlink from the TV to Labs 5.

2. Digital-coax-cable from Beomaster 5 directly to Beolab 5, and still Powerlink from the TV to Labs 5 and Masterlink between the Beosound 5 and the TV. I have to re-name the source from N.MUSIC to CD, otherwise the Labs 5 digitalconnection will not work.

I have tested this two alternative connection-possibilities and it sounds different.

Alternativ 1: The sound is more "compact" with a good bass-response and the treble is rather smooth.

Alternativ 2: There is more "air" in the sound, and the treble is more brittle and if you listen to a song with female voices you have to put down the volume a bit to not hurt your ears. The bass-response is a little bit worse than alternativ 1. The total sound-picture is more wide and deep with this alternative.

Have anyone tried these to ways of connecting the Beosound 5 to labs5? I have tested alot of songs and it is very hard to determine which way gives the best sound.

Please any advice (especially if you have tried this two ways of connection your self).

Regards
Martin Stroem

I have in the sitting room BV7, BM5 / BS5, BS9000.
Loudspeaker BL5, BL3, BL7-4. All loudspeakers go by power link directly to the BV7. Digitally goes, in addition, from BS9000 to BL5. Am contented with the sound.

Well connecting them with the SPDIF cable will produce the "best" sound. However, tastes vary if you like the ML sound better (which will be a modified source) then use that one. But in using the ML there's unnecessary D/A conversions, and IMHO you'll lose some of the data.

Too long to list....

Hi Martin,

 >I have to re-name the source from N.MUSIC to CD, otherwise the Labs 5 digitalconnection will not work.

Will you explain this a little more, as I have problems in making the digital connection work.

I have the same setup except for a BV7-40 with Blu-ray and a BEO6.

Do you press CD in order to select music from the Beosound and will it not conflict with the DVD in the BV7?

Regards Ole

Hi OKA,

If you connect the SPDIF-cable between the BM5 and LABS 5 and another spidf-cable between the two labs 5, then the digitalconnectin will work perfect. BUT: You must re-name the source in the Beosound 5 from N.MUSIC to CD. You do this in the setup-menu when you choose "roles". When you have re-named the source from N.MUSIC to CD, then you press CD on your remote and the Beosound 5 will play and the sound will go thru the digital spdif-cable instead of masterlink-cable.

It will Not conflict with the DVD in the BV7. DVD is a video-source and CD is an audio-source.

You must have a CD-button in your BEO6-remote, otherwise you have to re-configurate the remote.

You will notice a much better soundstage with the digital connection.

Martin

Hi Martin,

Yes, it is working when setup as CD as you described.

My problem now is that the 2-way music selection on BEO6 does not work anymore. Apparently Beosund5 shall be named N.MUSIC for it to work.

But anyway, it was a step forward. Thank you.

Regards Ole

Hi Oka, you have to re-program the Beo6 if you want the 2-Way communication to work. You must change the n.music Button to CD button. My Beo6 works perfekt with 2-Way communication when using the Cd-command in order to use spdif from BM5 to LABS5.

Hi Martin,

Of course you were right again, so now everything is working well with the SPDIF connection.

Thank you again.
