A question about these brass tonearm dampers on the 4002 : do they need lubrication or not ? (I mean : the inside of the cylinder and the piston). Were they lubricated when new ? I just bought a new one which shows no sign of lubrication, but works properly; is there a risk of wear if it works without lube ?
Thank you for you answers.
I don't think any lubricants were added in production. My experience, and what I have had best success with, is that if the piston/cylinder functions corrrectly without lubrication, I let it run like that.If the piston/cylinder shows signs of wear it may be necessary to add a little oil to tighten the seal around the piston.Just a thin film of acid-free oil (sewing machine oil). Put a drop on your little finger and smear it around the inside of the cylinder.Work the piston a couple of times manually and adjust the air screw on top of the cylinder head for a suitable damping delay.
