"Updated BeoRemote App 1.4 (iOS only) Bang & Olufsen is constantly improving the App with new features and better user interface. With this update you will see the following changes: Extended control of connected devices Two-way control and status Touch pad with free cursor movement Automatic keyboard synchronization You will get extended control of third party devices such as e.g. a connected Blu-ray player, Set-top Box or Apple TV, as you will be able to see the operation menus of these devices directly on your tablet. Easy access to your presets, such as your preferred sound mode or stand position, is also introduced in this update. Convenient two-way control and status directly on the tablet screen for functions such as channel name, volume control, stand movement, sound and picture adjustments, will mean you can focus your attention on the tablet rather than switching between the TV and tablet. A touch pad that allows free cursor movement for browsing the internet on Smart TV, with exceptionally good response time on screen is another great feature some may have been missing. And the automatic keyboard synchronization with the TV, when it is possible to use it, will also be introduced in the 1.4 update. To make use of this new functionality, you need to make sure you have the latest software in your BeoVision 11 or BeoPlay V1." Well done Bang & Olufsen Greetings Millemissen__________________Missekatten

"New features compared to Playmaker MK I
Faster booting from completely switched off when compared to Playmaker MK I. Wireless software update is supported. This means that a cable between router and Playmaker is no longer required to perform the update.
Note: The updated Playmaker does not support FLAC format due to platform limitations. Playmaker will, however, support the same formats as BeoPlay A9."
"Support:
DLNA formats:
MP3 (all) or VBR / CBR 32 -> 320kbit WMA, both VBR and CBR 20 -> 320kbit (No support for WMA Lossless)
AAC (ISO and ADTS) -> 320kbit"
WAV
(The MK1: as above AND FLAC: 8-192 kHz, 16 or 24 bits, 2 channels)
That means that FLAC is not supported via DLNA anymore - therefore I am very pleased to have the PM MK1.
I must admit that I seldom use the DLNA-function, but leaving out FLAC-support is a nogo in my opinion.
Shame on you Bang & Olufsen
Greetings Millemissen
Hi,
I cannot see any update for BeoRemote App.

I've only recently started re-working many of my CDs and storing them in FLAC on my NAS drive! I was planning on replacing my ageing BS4 with a Playmaker and connecting this to my BL3s. Now they've dropped FLAC support?
I might try and see if I can get hold of a Playmaker MK1 whilst they are still available.
Hello,
I bought a Playmaker BECAUSE of FLAC support and DESPITE of no WMA Lossless support.
All my music was in this format to feed my Beoport, so I had to make the conversion of all files, which are now doubled (WMA for Beoport, FLAC for Playmaker).
When audio units are disappearing from B&O's catalogue, which high quality sources still remain?
Beomaster/Beosound 5 is not an option (overpriced) and Beosound Encore misses ML integration.
I can't find a logic in this new model.
Faster booting? Do you reboot your Playmaker every day?
Wireless upgrade? OK, in my opinion Ethernet is safer for a potentially risky process.
No more Lossless format? SHAME!!!
In my opinion, Playmaker MkII is a downgrade. Happy to have a MkI.
Yann.

Hi Moxxey, hi YannChris,
even if you haven't got or can get hold of a PM MK1, there is still a possibility to play your FLAC-files on the MK2 (or the A9) - using AirPlay!
Most people with a PM (or a A9) nowadays have an iDevice.
Just use a DLNA-app e.g. PlugPlayer, 8player or the Creation5 to draw from the content (or rather the server ) on your NAS - they all can play and AirPlay the FLAC-files.
I don't know the reasons for letting go of suppoert for FLAC via DLNA - would be interesting to learn why they have decided against FLAC/DLNA-support.
But the PM is still worth buying....if you know how to deal with things.
P.S I use the DLNA-function of the PM very seldom - but still I find it strange that they 'downgrade' this proper working device.
Mine was set up the day I got it, and runs very well ever since.
-------
But we are getting away from the original subject of this post, the updated BeoRemote-app!
I hope to hear from those who has a BV11 and/or a V1, how it behaves after the update, which is soon to be released..
Hi Moxxey,
" I was planning on replacing my ageing BS4 with a Playmaker and connecting this to my BL3s"
Why don't you keep your BS4? Just connect one PL-RJ45 to the AUX-in of the BS4, put the PM in option0 and in fixed-lineout....and enjoy AirPlay'ing on your ML-network.
Greetings MM

I thought Airplay/Apple didn't support FLAC and neither does iTunes, so the primary way of supporting this was direct to NAS via DNLA? I'm confused :)
OK - I will try to explain a little more about it tomorrow - after a good nights sleep.

This is correct, actually. Airplay doesn't support FLAC.
Also the A9 never supported FLAC.

If the BeoRemote app will be able to control the BM/BS5 it would mean that the BM/BS5 would get a MAJOR update.
It should then be part of the BeoLink NL. If that is so, you should be able to control it solo with the BeoRemote app.
---
BUT I doubt that it is so!
With the BM/BS5 in a BeoLink NL or ML (or both mixed) AND the MLGW you can control the BM/BS5 very well with
the BeoLink app - seeing and choosing from your albumcovers. But that is another app and requires the MLGW to work.
----
It would be wonderfull if the dealer is right - would open up new possibilities...and - I am sure - would sell a lot of new BM/BS5's.
It would also fit in with the promise ttat a search function for BS5/Spotify is coming soon..
So hoping.....

"Airplay doesn't support FLAC. Also the A9 never supported FLAC."
That is absolutely correct - but does not mean that you won't be able to play the FLAC-files you have on a NAS or on a Computer to a Playmaker MK2.
There are several iOS-apps, that support FLAC. These apps act as a 'renderer' as well as a 'controlpoint', and therefore are able to
play any file that the 'DLNA-server' serves them.
And - here comes the good news - these apps are nowadays able to use AirPlay.
This means that you within the app can choose any AirPlay device on your network as 'player' - Playmaker MK1/MK2, A9 and so on.
Any file that is send via AirPlay is send as ALAC in 16bit/44.1 Khz. Since FLAC and ALAC are both uncompressed formats, it works perfectly well.
All ripped CD's are 16bit/44.1 Khz - so no fuss there either.
Only problem is that, when you have FLAC-files in highres quality, they would the be downconverted.
But mostly owners of highres-files don't use AirPlay. In these cases I would recommend a PC or MAC with a 'powerfull software' and a very good DAC connected to the line-in of the Playmaker.
This is how I often do things. Actually it is easier to manage things this way - rather than playing via 'pure' DLNA. To play direct via the DLNA-function would need an extra step, and you would need to go into the settings of the app more often.
You could even have a 'Logitech Media Server' (formerly 'Squeezeserver') running on a NAS and - on the iPad - use 'Squeezeplay' or 'iPeng HD' with 'Playback' activated, and then AirPlay from within the app. This way you can even enjoy 'gapless playback', which isn't part of the DLNA-standart.
So still lots of possibilities to play high quality FLAC-files - even on a A9 or a Playmaker MK2.
If you start out new ripping your CD's - and don't mind using ITunes - you could even skip the DLNA-part totally, and use the 'Remote' app to AirPlay native ALAC-files.
Even local playback of FLAC-files on an iDevice is possible. When I have music on my iPad Mini for on the go, I use the 'FLAC Player'-app. And that one also has the AirPlay-function build in.

Would be nice to hear from Moxxey and others how they consider(ed) using DLNA/FLAC with the Playmaker before learning that the MK2-version doesn't support FLAC via DLNA anymore.???
But please don't forget: this thread is about 'The BeoRemote-app'!!!
Hoping also......
Hi Millemissen,
My priority is to have the highest quality source to feed the Beolabs, so the setup is the following:
- Music is stored in FLAC on a NAS with a DLNA package.
- Playmaker is hard-wired to the network and no access to the WLAN is set, since I want a dropout-free experience. It is connected to the Aux-in of a Beocenter 2.
- The idevices (Iphones and Ipod) are used as a remote control, using DS Audio, 8player, PluPlayer or Creation5 (since one week).
---> I solely use DLNA since and Airplay is not an option because of too many dropouts, despite of good Wifi signal on the computers placed in the room.
In my case, the end of FLAC support in Playmaker mkII is a downgrade.
Kind regards,
YannChris: Would be nice to hear from Moxxey and others how they consider(ed) using DLNA/FLAC with the Playmaker before learning that the MK2-version doesn't support FLAC via DLNA anymore.???
I meant direct from the NAS to the Playmaker? Maybe I've got this wrong, but I was of the understanding that the Playmaker would link to your NAS drive and you'd control the playback of the (FLAC) content via your iOS device?
So, connect the Playmaker to your speakers, link to the NAS drive, use an iPad to stop, start, play your audio?

Moxey,
That's exactly how I use my PM (fortunately it's a MkI).
Back to the BeoRemote-subject:
My BeoRemote-app just got updated 😃
As I don't have a BV11 or a V1 I can't test it - but it would be nice to hear from some one who has!
10 days to go for that, I suppose.

I'm not sure why you feel BeoSound 5 is overpriced, at least here in Denmark it have had a permanent pricereduction of some 40%, and is ow not much more then the price of the Encore.I purchased my BeoSound 5 just prior to the reduction, ut that was at a campaign price, which endud up being the new list price, so didn't loose on the transaction, luckily:)
I had no information of such a price reduction in France.
Maybe it as limited to Denmark.
YannChris: Hi, I had no information of such a price reduction in France. Maybe it as limited to Denmark. Kind regards, Yann.
I'm not sure, but definately worth checking out, if the only thing holding you from getting it is price, I love mine:)
