Hello guys!

Do anyone of you have experience with connecting the new Apple TV to a Beovision 6 26"?

What I'm wondering about is of course the connections on the BV6 getting dated...

Thanks in advance!

Andreas

Not entirely sure. First check if your tv has a DVI input. Then check if its HD-ready. If these two are confirmed you need only use a HDMI-DVI adapter. Then connect Apple TV with HDMI and use optical sound out of Apple tv to line-in in tv problem solved.

Worst case senario is that you may need HD-kit into tv. Check with your local dealer for price.

Alternatively, purchase BeoPlay V-1.

You would need the hd-ready kit, an optional dolby digital decoder for your sound and a seperate ‘optical > coaxial decoder unit’. And the stb-controller is useless for the DVI-input. Picture-wise the BV6 is outdated too...

Your better of with any other brand TV.

I disagree, I use a WDTV live via DVI with analog left and right audio. The picture is a good as it gets, even better than most modern TV's, colour and sound is amazing. (OK the res is dated, but hey it's only 26"...)

Don't give up on the BV6, its a great little TV :)

I forgot to mention, that I now have a BV11-55 (1 week old) with the Beolab 3's (7 years old and 5 house moves in 2 countries!) that used to run with the BV6-26 (now in the bedroom), also a BV6-22 in the guest bedroom, the 1st Bang and Olufsen product that I bought, 10 years ago?  WOW, what other brands could stand time so well!

Thanks guys.

I'm unsure wether to get an old BV6, or just get a new bell and whistles TV for the bedroom...

So the optical cable would supply the sound then? Will the Apple TV be sending sound via the optical even if the HDMI is connected? (I'm guessing yes)

There are plenty of 8-26's popping up and I have been impressed with ours. The 6 is a better looking TV there's no doubt, but even a single hdmi socket makes a big difference.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Yes it will. But still you need a 3rd party device to convert the optical signal. 2 options here:

  • a box that converts to analog L/R so you won’t need the optional DSM.
  • a box that converts to coaxial if the DSM is installed.

To display content via the DVI there is another issue that can occur: HDCP. Without the the HD-ready kit installed it’s more than likely you will have problems, renting a movie.

I’m just trying to be objective here, but on a forum like this, opinions will always be strongly biased. The only reason I would buy an old BV6 would be because of the sound and if the TV is connected to a masterlinked system. If connecting an Apple TV has higher priorities, I would look further. And like I said earlier, the DVI-input cannot be controlled with the stb-controller, so you will still need 2 remotes.

The BV8 is a good machine, but I can't get over the design. Sad

Once I got one home on its stand I soon got over it. It's never going to be a 6 though let's face it. There are a view hdmi 6-26 to be had but at ridiculous prices.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I actually have one of those converters... However... Not being able to use the STB controller using DVI is about to kill this idea for me. That was the biggest reason for the B&O TV...

A HD-ready BV6 will basically work "out-of-the-box" with an apple tv then?

I really appreciate the help.

Hi, If the 6-26 has the HD Ready scaler then the DVI socket is controllable wit the STB controller in the sockets menu together with the HD source DVI or Component inputs! Tos to Coax signal converters are available on ebay for a tenner!

This is what I have in my kitchen

I have once tried to connect my BV 6-26 (which I have sold for a new Loewe TV afterwards) with my Apple TV. The Beovision had a DVI input but no HD kit (scaler) installed. I could not use the Apple TV since the picture was flickering every 5 - 10 seconds in all screen resolutions that Apple TV supports.

So maybe you should try to get your hands on a later model 6-26 that is HD ready (mine was a 2006 model).

Kind regards,

Mike

Hi, You could always look for a Beocenter 6-26 which is HD Ready from the factory and has better software

What about the BV6 - 22"?

Would that work?

After getting some new furniture for the bedroom, I noticed that the space where I'd like to put the TV is about 100cm, and I don't want a too big TV in the bedroom, it will be too dominating.

Nope, but googled it.

I'd be so much simpler off by just buying a third party TV, as pretty much the only connection I need is Apple TV.

But the design... I can't get over the plastic thingies... The new big Samsung TV's with the thin bezel looks great, why can't they make a nice small TV? Stick out tongue

This is the space I need the TV for. The drawers chest is about 100cm, so putting a big TV on it is not an option... I think it will ruin the look of the drawer.

Is this worth a go, dont know whether it needs a hdmi display connected to it to work?

We use it to connect via hdmi in the main room then send the modulated composite video signal around the good old link system. Brings new life to all the old 'analogue' only BeoVision tvs.

word of caution the HDMI input device can only be set to 720p.

Buy a suitable small (white)16/9 display with HDMI, connect the audio via DAC to an Active Link (PC-input), and a couple of small BL's.....

....and AirPlay the content to the ATV (set to 'always on').

This way you can reach the audio sources in the main room as well.

I've been thinking of that, but would like the B&O design. Wink

Or even made a 32 inch version with HDMI sockets. I'd buy one at V1 prices in a flash.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
