I was researching the Logitech Harmony Ultimate Hub that is going to be available this August and see the potential as a solution for smartphone app control of B&O without the Masterlink Gateway. The hub can convert wi-fi commands from its smartphone app into IR and Bluetooth commands. I checked its database of supported devices and found the BeoSystem 3 and BeoSound 5 listed. It seems that this could be a way to convert and send commands from a smartphone to the B&O IR receiver via the hub. The same app would also provide control of the new Philips Hue lighting system.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for posting this. I already have a few wifi remotely controlled lights using an iPhone app. I am definitely going to buy this to control my Beosound 5.

Razlaw:Interesting. I was looking briefly at it and it appears to be available now? I see it on both Amazon and BestBuy sites and BestBuy shows it in stock at my local store. Or am I seeing an old model?
Or am I seeing an old model?
My understanding is that the hub is currently available bundled with a Harmony remote. However, in August, the hub will be available separately (and more inexpensively) without the Harmony remote for those who just want to use a smartphone as their remote without using the extra Harmony remote.
This seems to be a solution in reverse of the Masterlink Gateway solution: instead of using the B&O IR to connect to the MLGW to connect to the smartphone, we would be using the smartphone to connect to the hub to then forward IR control to the B&O IR receiver.

Razlaw:Beosound 3000, Avant and BV 10 are also in database. I assume other are also but I only checked these.
In my Harmony experience, I have yet to find ANY B&o (back to, but not including the ultrasonics) that could not be controlled -regardless of their existence (or not) in a Logitech database. That said, some pieces may require manual learning.

Beomaster 8000 couldn't be controlled with my (admittedly low end) Harmony 300i despite being in the database.
All the other B&O gear works fine, though with this remote it sends volume commands in bunches of 3 or 4 up or down instead of one interval. I'm sure I could probably alter the command list or something even further but it works for now.

Interesting! I had no problems with the 8000 and my 880 remotes. In fact, short of the FILTERS and perhaps another function or two, I recall it pretty much working right off the bat. My guess is that the difference must be in the physical remote and not the programming, though that seems illogical. I would suggest trying the provided programming for another period piece, or resort to trying the "LEARN" utility and your 8000 terminal if you wanted to have another try.
Regarding the "4 UP/DN" with volume ... this only happens on my B&o and none of my Kikoniko. Some rainy day I will tackle that and will be happy to share!
Looks good Wonder what the price of the units is?
