my macbook is a pro medio 2012 i7 2.3 Ghz 16 GB 256 GB SSD
but i can borrow a pc if that is easier
cheers
Michael
it is already between 25-50 % done after just 45 minutes
oh damn i just saw i am using a 3 TB HD but i guess i can just resize to it 2 TB or shall i get a 2 TB HD
Michael. You can actually use BM5 for the cloning process. I used Hirens Boot CD installed on a USB memory stick and attached external display to BM5 and used Patition Magic on Hirens Boot CD. See my post in this tread page one. And Google Hirens for procedure to make the USB stick
have fun ;-)
Hi,
well actually the clone box says the clone is finished now i just need to resize the HD
anyone than recommend a good program for that either for windows or mac is it freeware
well let you know about my progress
well the clone said it was done but.
when i start the Beo5 it starts with the normal screen wait the 9 seconds and then it flashes a blue screen and then it restarts
dont know if it is cause it is a 3 TB HD with around 2 TB of unused space haven't found the program to use yet to merge / resize the partition
any idea what can have gone wrong ?
Hi Michael,
Unfortunately, as I mentioned in an earlier post, 2TB is the upper limit as XP is unable to address anything larger than that. It doesn't matter that the partitioned space is below 2TB as XP will still be unable to boot from a larger disk.
Kind regards
Martin.
ok i will order a 2 TB HD right away
thanks alot again again and again [:)
No worries.
It's the western digital WD20EURX 2TB AV-GP HDD that I used as it is the same series as the 1TB disk that B&O install. Others should work but I felt sticking with the same drive series would help to eliminate any possible problems, especially since some of the higher rpm drives can be both noisy and generate more heat.
I would recomment installing an SSD and put Music on NAS. I have done that over a year ago and BM5 is very responsive as it is suppposed to be but never was with the original HDD. My SSD is a 256 GB one and its fine for the systems but no Music files. All on NAS and it works as a charm
well i have considered that but i have right now a Qnap TS-251 with around 44000 flac files on and when it comes to 17000 files no more covers been talking alot with B&O about it not that it helped so much
been trying for 2 weeks to get it to work but i have given up but if it works with a 256 GB ssd with all my files i will serious consider that
Micthecat have many files do you have with covers etc etc
I just clone my hd to a 2 TB but when i try to resize / format the unallocated space it would let me do it
any good idea what program to use
I just clone my hd to a 2 TB but when i try to resize / format the unallocated space it would not let me do it
Firstly, it's worth checking that the drive will boot successfully before going any further if you haven't already done so.
I'm not at home right now so I can't check and might be wrong, but from memory I think there is another partition after the data partition that you want to expand so that will need to be moved to the end of the disk first. You can use gparted both to move this partition and then to expand the data partition.
Kind regards,
Hi Martin,
I have testet the clone copy and that one works perfectly
i expanded the Data Partition and then i tried then i got an error then i delete the Data partition this time i boots perfectly but when i try to go into the menu where i choose storage etc. it it reboots
i can see on the original there is 10 mb of unallocated space but dont think that is the problem
so right now i am bit lost
i used mini tool to extend and format the partition
anyway i will do a brand new cloning and try to use it cause i am really not sure i have to got in the menu i mentioned above
Hi Again,
i just completed the cloning and inserted the disk in beomaster 5 and it works perfectly listening to music right now from the cloned disk.
after i expanded the disk last time it is like the settings is all gone the language was english now it is danish
so i am pretty sure it is when i try to expand the disk i do something wrong.
hope you can help me me the last few steps to get it working
You want to resize the partition without reformatting it too as this will wipe all data (which is why your language settings changed etc).
I'm not familiar with the software you are using but hopefully it will allow you to do this.
I'll do a complete write-up of the entire process when I have some free time but hopefully this will help in the the meantime.
Hi again,
which tools did you use Gpart ?
did you extend or resize ? i have extended it as the freeware of mini tool partition dont support that
Michael:which tools did you use Gpart ?
Yes, I used GParted.
Michael:did you extend or resize ? i have extended it as the freeware of mini tool partition dont support that
This might be a case of different tools calling things by different names. There are four partitions on the original BM5 hard disk, so after cloning to a larger disk you will have:
[Recovery] [System] [Data] [BM System] (unallocated space)
first you need to move the BM System partition to the end of the disk, then you will have:
[Recovery] [System] [Data] (unallocated space) [BM System]
next, you need to resize the Data partition to fill the unallocated space, so that you end up with:
[Recovery] [System] [Data] [BM System]
At that stage you should be ready to go.
See if you can do the above with the software you are using and let me know how you get on.
Kind Regards,
i have downloaded the gparted and burn it on CD and boot up on the CD
but i just can't get it to move to the end of the disk i am trying the resize move option
and been reading the help file on g.parted.org but it just won't do it
will try some of the other tools
michael
You should just be able to drag the slider to the right (clicking and dragging from the middle of the block, otherwise you will resize it instead).
Alternatively, you can just type a zero in the "free space following" box.
Best on an older system like the BM5 to select to alight to: "cylinder" too.
thanks a lot will try that now
will post my progress
if i just type 0 it won't let me move it
right now i have
free space o
new size 996
free space following miB 953869
allign to Cylinder
It won't let you delete the 953869 and type '0' instead in the free space following box?
yes i just need to read what you wrote sorry
but i got a 2.49 off unallocated space but now i growning the data to 1.81 GB
so now i have Recovery system data bmsystem and unallocated space at 2.49
should i resize the bmsystem back or ?
Okay, let me know first whether you have already clicked "Apply" on the main screen?
If you haven't, then DON'T, as this means we still have time to undo the changes and try again...
yes i clicked apply
(If you've already applied the changes, then we can still sort this out, but I need to know which way to guide you)
yes i have applied the changes let me know what you need to know to fix it
Okay, no problem.
Is the unallocated space shown after the BM System partition (ie at the bottom of the list)?
yes it is
recovery system data bmsystem unallocated
Okay, I presume you meant you'd grown the Data partition to 1.81TB (not GB)?
Highlight BM System again and click 'resize/move' - see if it will let you move it further to the right, or let me know what values are show in the boxes again.
hehe yeah 1,8 TB
free space preceding 977
new size 22
free space following 0
allign to cylinder
Okay, looks like you've shrunk (or are shrinking) The BM-System partition, cos it's size should be just under 1000MiB. Try dragging the left hand edge of the green bar all the way to the left, so that it ends up showing:
Free space preceeding: 0
new size: 999 (approx)
Free space following: 0
can i just type the numbers in ?
probably.. I know that preceeding / following tend to change each other, but if you type 1000 in the size box it'll probably work (or tell you the maximum)
Once you've done that (and before clicking apply), let me know what is shown on the main screen ('partition name' and 'size' for each) and whether there is still any unallocated space showing.
ok i just type 1000 in and it change it 999
Recovery 1,95 GIB
system 4.89 GIB
data 1.81 TIB
BM-System 998,62
no more unallocated space
Perfect, go ahead and click 'Apply' and let it do it's thing
Are you doing this on the BM5 itself, or do you need to reinstall the hard disk in the BM5 after it has finished?
