I love Vivaldi's Four seasons.

Max Richter have made the album Recomposed. As the album states it is Vivaldi5 Four seasons re-composed.

I went a bit overboard after listening to it through spotify for several months, and now I have it on cd, DVD, and vinyl.

Might be that everybody here already knows it, but great music can never be shared enough Big Smile

My brother in law, has 70 years birthday today, he didnt want to have a big party (golf player), so I told him , invite your best friends, and I cook for you, you decide the menu. Well, he wanted Filete Wellington (in English, Beef Wellington) I made that for 14 persons, 10 arrived, I made butter sauteed greens, and a Mango sauce, some small Danish open sandwiches for an entry, and a chocolate cake for dessert. All came out well, nobody got sick.

Now I am relaxing listening to some country music, Kathy Mattea, Dolly Parton, Juice Newton and some more, Music just to relax and enjoy a cigar and a well mixed Rum and Coke

Hi Søren

Your dinner is nothing short of amazing. Wow, what I’d give for an invitation!

And Brenda Lee is one of my favourites too! Even as she got older she stayed the same high energy lady…. a Georgia “peach” I believe.

Soren,

Perhaps we need another thread - 'grumpy old men who cook'! I can think of at least one other person on your side of the Atlantic who might qualify!

Whoa, don’t forget the grumpy old men who don’t cook worth $&@*, but enjoy feasting none the less. Plus this grumpy old man CAN produce recipes, even if I wasn’t the one to cook them. Pictures too….

I'm not sure he would want me to expose his interest in cooking!!!!

There was a saying in England that 'a gentleman never tells' - normally used when referring to relationships with women - but it was about being discreet in sensitive matters. I'm sure if he reads this he will 'come out'- so to speak!

Well, I cook, but it probably wasn't me you're talking about.

Cooking really is a lost art here in the states.  All I have to do to "dazzle" someone is make fresh pasta - something which is dead easy to do and almost mistake-proof.

I am, however, both grumpy and getting old.  Embarrassed

Homemade pasta is like homemade tortillas, a taste from heaven, I make all my meals from scratch with fresh ingredients, keeping it as simple as possible, to bring out the taste of all the main parts, the Mexicans always overdo the use of chile and garlic, result, everything tastes as chile or garlic.

Welcome to the Grumpy old Gourmets

When making Mexican food (or what we Gringos call Mexican food), I have been known to overuse cilantro, my favorite herb next to basil.

Well I don’t know if it goes well in Mexican food (authentic or otherwise), but smoked paprika is my favourite spice. Of course you can’t go wrong with onions and garlic.

Cilantro and Oregano has a very penetrating taste, I use sparely, my favorite spices are, fresh Basil (I have 2 plants) cayenne pepper, black pepper and sweet paprika. For my sauces my own Gastric is always ready, best way to cook is KISS

Hi Guys,

I realize that not everyone favors classical music and not everyone has a concert hall in their backyards.

However I attended a concert Sunday featuring a truly remarkable gentleman, the 25 year-old pianist Charlie Albright. This amazing artist graduated college in Washington State while still attending high school.  He then went on to become a graduate of Julliard. Next he earned an Economics degree and a Masters of Music from Harvard. If that were not enough for ANY resume, he currently is working on his pre-med at Harvard.

The style and grace of this young man is impossible to believe…. with the most difficult and demanding passages appearing absolutely effortless and all without music.

Suffice to say Mr. Albright received a resounding and sustained standing ovation after playing Chopin and then with an innocent look asked, “Would you like one more?” He then performed a spontaneous encore of Mozart’s Turkish Rondo … the encore was definitely not planned as evidenced by the surprised look on many in the orchestra, who also appeared quite pleased and excited at the unexpected treat.

But there is more. After the concert I was lucky enough to talk briefly with Mr. Albright and was stunned by his complete and total modesty and his almost childlike appreciation of the compliments he received.

Charlie Albright is touring all over North America so if ever you have the chance to see this fine gentleman with such enormous talent, don’t miss the opportunity.

For me I am hoping for a return performance. Laughing

Here’s a video posted of him playing Tchaikovsky in Spartanburg, SC September 13th to give you an idea.

Since getting my white Beosystem 6500 back from Martin and setup I had some trouble of finding any radio channels. Something my 1981 Beosystem 6000 does way better even in a basement without any antenna attached to it.

I did some months ago attach some cable to the BM6500 arial and out the window to ground floor. Still not really anything.

So after giving the MCP6500 another go I found 2 channels being Danish radio 3 and 2. Since then I have the radio on radio 2 even at the time of writing this.

The pizza base is from scratch.

Prepare 4002 for Bach Organ Favourite by E. Power Biggs by opening dust cover.

1 pkg yeast in 1/2 C. warm water with 1/4 tsp sugar. Set five minutes to bloom. Add to 3/4 C. milk.

Add vinyl to 4002. Close cover on 4002 and press play.

Measure 3 C. flour and 1 1/2 tsp salt into mixer.

Make sure arm of 4002 is landing correctly on vinyl. Adjust where necessary.

add yeast mixture to flour mixture along with 2 Tbs olive oil and blend to form a ball

Advance 4002 arm to next song.

Knead 50-60 times. Rest a couple minutes. Knead +20 times.

Enjoy music from 4002

Cover and let rise in a warm spot for 90 min.

Boost volume on amplifier

Cut in half as makes two crusts.

Play vinyl again.

If you mean a pizza dough....off the top of my head....

Dissolve 1/4 tsp brown sugar in 1/2 cup warm water.  Add 2 tsp bread machine yeast into water/sugar mixture.  Let stand 10 minutes.

Put 2 cups all purpose flour in a large mixing bowl.  Mix 1/2 tsp salt into flour.  Optional:  also mix 1/2 tsp basil, oregano, and/or red pepper flakes into flour.  Make a well in the flour.

Pour the water/sugar/yeast into the flour well.  Add 2 T olive oil.  Mix with wooden spoon about 30 seconds, then pour out onto lightly floured countertop.

Knead dough for 5 minutes, adding flour to make a medium stiff dough (perhaps another 1/4 cup).

Coat another large bowl with a little olive oil.  Put dough in bowl, turn over to coat with oil, then cover with towel.  Let rise about an hour and a half until doubled.

Preheat oven and pizza stone to 450F to 500F.

Punch down dough on lightly floured countertop.  Roll out into 12" diameter circle.  Place dough on pizza peal topped with corn meal.  Add toppings.  Bake on pizza stone in oven for 8 minutes at 450F-500F.

Remove from oven, let sit for 1 minute, cut, serve burn-your-tongue-hot.

EDIT

So close.  It should be 3/4 cup water.

Pizza dough had an error - see edit above.

I've got Jimmie Buffet Songs You Know By Heart (thrift store 25 cent cassette!) going in the kids' homework room.  BC1900 -> BM1900 -> Dark Side.  I just needed to exercise the BC1900, but when the FS heard what I put on, she yelled, "Hey!  You can turn that up."

And then "Why Don't We Get Drunk and ***" came on, and she said, "Maybe that's not so appropriate for the kids to hear."

Surprise

Hey Rich,

For a ¼ cup, you certainly can be forgiven. Damn, you were close.

In the spirit of this thread: No Mercy “Manumissing Trance Verse” 45 RPM AA label; DJ only issue, not for the public….. and one of my favourite records.

Beogram “Frankenstein” 8000 with MMC6000, Beomaster 4400 (yet another monster, of a different type), and B&O MC 120.2 (Oy, I don’t want to talk about them) and Fisher XP-77 speakers. Laughing

With volume set at 5.5, not a bad listen. Not bad at all.

Jeff

Rich:

Pizza dough had an error - see edit above.

I've got Jimmie Buffet Songs You Know By Heart (thrift store 25 cent cassette!) going in the kids' homework room.  BC1900 -> BM1900 -> Dark Side.  I just needed to exercise the BC1900, but when the FS heard what I put on, she yelled, "Hey!  You can turn that up."

And then "Why Don't We Get Drunk and ***" came on, and she said, "Maybe that's not so appropriate for the kids to hear."

Surprise

Babysitting last night ...

Played my iPhone to an Airport Express AUXed into the Bombaster 5000 driving two CX100s

Given our grandson is at 20 months I was not too concerned about subliminal messages in the random play mode ...

Some Led Zeppelin tonight ;).

To be honest, I do prefer the first 3 albums but when I saw 4 and 5 in my favorite CD shop....

My IV and Houses LPs should be arriving in the mail this evening.

Thought this discussion had been quiet for a while, seems to have drifted a bit.  So, not necessarily a favourite song but loving what my lab 9 does with the track, try;

surroundsound, empire of the sun, ice on the dune

then for a great chill out track "I'll be around" same album

What else are we all listening too?

Currently my Beocord 1100 with original belts through Beosystem 6500 TP1. Whatever tapes I can find to see how the Beocords reacts to every day use. So far very well indeed.

Tape right know is a Beocord 9000 recording of Shubidua 9 and 10. A Danish rock'n'roll band.

Well today I listen to some Kaas and then used the one at the top of the listen to seed an iTunes Radio station ... Which unfortunately Last.FM can't track :

I find I need to drink a Cognac or Gran Marnier in a wing back chair when I listen to Patricia Kaas.  How are you finding iTunes Radio?  I find that no matter what station I set up sooner or later Celine Dion comes on!  Still think Pandora does a better job there and Spotify for following this thread!

Don't think Celine has ever graced my presence !

What was weird about today is I would get French singers (2 female, 1 male) followed by a Russian with Cyrillic song titles and cover art - so I would do a skip and start the random singer sequence all over again.

And I have never had Russians appear before !

The worst thing about iTunes Radio is that I will start a seed with an obscure artist and within 10 or 20 songs the "station" dies having run out of tracks !

So last week I used Vimeo instead (on the BV via the ATV) to listen to Latin music ....
