Evan:

The band is alt-J. Album is An Awesome Wave.

Right now I'm listening to this on my very overbuilt Darkside Tour de Force system.

EDIT: What better way to celebrate my 3000th post on the best site in the world!

*dang* I meant to celebrate my 3,000th by replying to your 3,000th but I got the count wrong by +1 Smile

any how congratulations to you - you young whippersnapper ! - how dare you get there before an old codger like me Big Smile

I am very proud of this production (http://sethsentry.com) where you can download some tracks (not my cup of tea!) because it is my son's album cover

He did their first, and then (at least) one for Nu-Breed, and now this one:

Earlier I listened to Van Halen's first album out in the garage while I worked on the M70 center channel experiment.

The S40s were rocking.  I can't get over how great those little speakers are.

I listened on TV to the Bee Gee's Las Vegas show recording over the weekend, and once it was over I simply had to listen again to some of my favourite songs again Smile "Staying Alive" being an important one - that usually gets played two or three times !

Earlier on Saturday I had overdosed myself by listening to Rod Stewart's Albert Hall music DVD ... twice !  Interestingly it was via a PS3, and the visual texture of the show seemed very different, so next weekend I shall have to do an A/B test between our DVD players.

On the recording is a lovely track where Rod introduces a new find that he said he found busking ... Amy Bell(e).

I ended up researching her ... and found that the appearance at the Albert Hall with Rod did not magically boost her musical career ... however I did find some tracks by her in iTunes, and so I bought them and will listen to them on this morning's commute !

Well I listened to the various Amy Belle tracks, and I was pleased with the lyrics but a little disappointed in her singing - or perhaps it was (as we have often discussed) the modern MP3 market recording techniques, I would have loved to hear some of the emotional depth that appears in the Albert Hall recording.

But perhaps they will grown on me ... I shall report back to y'all Wink

Just started listening to Miike Snow on the Dark Side system, it will be my last chance to do so for a long time. I decided that it should be taken back to the parent's house for safe keeping.

Wow ! What a setup...yesterday night i listened to Dan Hartman - Relight My Fire on my BL4000s in an improruptu party in my house...ehehe; with tracks like 70s Disco B&O small loudspeakers are still pretty decent Big Smile

Of course, with more bass involved (eg. some 90s Disco Music like Haddaway or such) you'll need a subwoofer or such...but with 70s Disco they keep rocking !

Alison Krauss & Union Station "Paper Airplane" 180 gram LP -> Soundsmith retipped MMC3000 -> BG3404 #1 -> BM2400 -> Dark Side* in the spare bedroom while upgrading the wife's laptop to Windows 8.  Wife hates this record but is a big fan of the Kraus and Robert Plant collaboration.  Go figure.

*Dark side speakers are home built "Frugel Horns" with modified Fostex FE126En full-range drivers.  One of the more satisfying DIY experiences I've had in my life.

Its not good that one forget so much, when you come to age, man I have some good 45s, Hermans Hermits, Roy Orbison, the Rubettes, it just keeps coming the longer I get into the box, of course I have to sing along once in a while, FS protests, she do not like my very smoky voice.

I have been exploring Last.FM's "/+similar" function - search for artists you really like and then see what thousands of other people like as having degress of similarity.

I had forgotten this artist, I have a live recording of her performing in Montreal, and through a combination of Last.FM and iTunes I found another live recording from the Wintergarden:

Bye Bye Love

Sophie Milman

Whatever Lola Wants

Sophie Milman featuring Jesse Cook

Previewing some fresh tunes for the oncoming BeoSound this evening.

Presently listening to some Pinback.. Stuck on Fortress from their album 'Summer in Abbadon.' I'll be tracking down this CD tomorrow.

Also found this guy called James Leg. If you like real (and I mean real!) guitar work, and that American/Western sound, this is for you. Favorite so far is Drinking to Much. This stuff sounds like it was written 40 years ago.

Chris Harrison:
Ryan Farish - Pacific Wind

Likewise Smile

I bought that track - and two others from other LPs (what should we call them? they are not CDs either: productions? ensembles? now that the physical medium/vehicle no longer exists! but the "covers" are pretty and match the peacefulness of the music):

  • "Pacific Wind" from "From the Sky (deluxe version)"
  • "Love Song" from "Love Song - Acoustic Sessions"
  • "Run to You" from "Selected Works" <== more bass that the other two

If they grow on me I will go back and do a "complete album" transaction (and there's the official iTunes answer to my question - collections are "albums" Big Smile)

At this stage the "Acoustic Session" is my favourite

And today is another lovely spring/summer day - maybe I will go and ask for a test drive of an Audi convertible that has B&O speakers Smile

For those keeping score at home, I'm no longer procrastinating.  Still listening to music, though.  Moved to LPs, but stayed in the 70s.

Both channels are present and very evenly balanced. It sounds pretty good to me! But then again, this is being compared to a tired ole half-working SP12 and an Ortofon 2M Red I heard for one album side.

Now listening to my Otis Redding / Sitting on the dock of the bay Paradise

I followed a good advice from Jeff (Piaff), bought IL Divo, IL Divo and Nana Mouskouri, Passport, for Christmas Nat King Cole, Christmas songs.

Just finished listening to IL Divo the second time, Thank you Jeff, I really enjoyed this, I will have to listen to these very good voices a few more times just to find out which song will be my favorite, I put it on my Beosound 3000 with the BL 8000s connected, it will be difficult to find a better combination in my house, maybe when the BM 4400 is finished with the P 45s can do it, worth a try.

Nana Mouskouri's voice recommend it self. Amazing.

Nat King Cole, good one for Christmas

I think I will put on IL Divo one more time, again Thank you Jeff.

iPod touch -> BM4500 -> Fostex PM0.4n monitors

Will be changing over my AAC files to MP3s so I can jam on my new BS6!
