People here seem to forget that you not just look but mostly listen to your speakers.
If we're being realistic, you can buy stereo systems that sound much better than B&O, for much less money, and are more flexible in how they operate and what's compatible - IF you're satisfied with big wooden boxes in the corners of your room. Or the trend in new homes is to see nothing at all and just build it into the wall / ceiling. For me the pleasure of B&O comes from a beautiful design, premium materials and the surprise part of movement, illumination etc.
Regarding the height of the ALT, if ALT equipped speakers only provide the best sound at exactly the specific height of the ALT, why are 9s and 5s at different heights? Are the 9s for shorter people and the 5s for taller people? And what about the 7-4 when mounted on a Beovision 7?
I have never heard any complaints about the ALT on a 7-4 being too low. What about a system with 5s in front, 9s in the rear and a 7-4 as center? Three different heights of ALT. I have never heard any complaints about that? Or is there some reason that an ALT lower than the listener is acceptable but higher is not?

According the Moulton Labboratories web page, ALT has a vertical range of 30 degrees. Also, the B and O web page says the ALT reduces floor and ceiling reflections. It does not say it eliminates them.
Trying to visualize this. If I had a protractor I'd draw a line 15 degrees below a horizontal one at the ALT's height to see if the drawn line is above or below Mr. McCartney's ears. And he seems to be seated closer to the speaker than he would be if actually listening, which would lessen the chance of the line being at or below his ears. But from strictly trying to ballpark the angle visually, I'd say the line would be at or below ear level - meaning that it doesn't matter that the ALT is placed on top.
David Lewis is probably turning in his grave...
BeoLab 8000 is IMO the most iconic product Bang & Olufsen have ever made. I already shook my head when I saw the BeoLab 8002 with that ugly little thing sticking out at the bottom of the fret, not to mention those hideous wall brackets they introduced... I hoped that was the worst it would get! But this time B&O have failed big time in trying to surpass themselves...

Anyone can confirm the new Beolab 8003 is designed by the same designer as the playmaker?
If that's the case, I hope he's at least cheap!
Too long to list....
bayerische: Anyone can confirm the new Beolab 8003 is designed by the same designer as the playmaker? If that's the case, I hope he's at least cheap!
I didn't realize that the playmaker was actually "designed"...
As for the BL 8003s, I am still in shock. Why try to redesign one of the best looking B&O speakers ever??? Can't they come up with a new design?

When I was younger I remember after buying a middle-market car, looking at wood veneer kits. "Give your car a touch of luxury with these simulated walnut/oak veneers". The idea was you covered ever but of grey or black on the dashboard with this cheap veneer and, hey presto, a 'luxury car'! Given the small, not terribly well defined images of the 8003, that's the impression I get here: take a design classic, cover it in wood and put a bit of bling on top.
Hey, though, when we see and hear them it might be - quite literally - an entirely different picture!
Hey Guys,
Yeah, I guess we need to see and hear them in the flesh, before making too drastic comments.I think that wooden grill is kind of cool though..
My first impression is that I will keep my old BL8000's. IMHO the best looking speaker ever made. Period.
I thought the new gear was about to be introduced yesterday? Does anybody know about the release date?

'porn' is now allowed on BeoWorld.
Would be nice to have a peak at an undressed BL17 💃
Who will be the first to present a picture? 9 Lee?

I am suprised they called it an icon "refined". To me when you refine something, you remove things, you don't add details.
If they offer it without the wood grille, it might be OK though.
That certainly would suit just about everybody - if the wood is a given then they've slashed their sales at the stroke of a designers pencil!
I repeat myself but the biggest mistake from Bang & Olufsen was to change an Icon.
The BeoLab 8000 was the ambassador of B&O - the best designed loudspeaker.
Everybody interested in design know this model.
For an example in the world of furniture, Jacob Jensen, Vitra, USM, Knoll, Cassina never change their Classical.
Hoping, the CEO Mantoni will recognise his mistake and will produce again the original.
Absolutely, but I just have the impression he wants to leave his mark.
According to BeoUndies :
« The speakers will be available in different wood stains to match your apartments...The grilles are removable, so you can always customise them with a speaker grille frame covered with your acoustically transparent material of choice »
Not bad at all...

But it doesnt say complete non-wooded frets are available from B&O. Im not sure many will want to buy speakers and then discard the supplied frets in order to replace them with hand covered replacements!!!

Yes, its also a historical move, never before bno did a redesign of something. and im sure if david lewis would be alive he would never have allowed a redesign of the beolab8000. Its like someone trying to correct the formula E=mc2.

don't count on that.
He told me recently (at the general meeting 2013) that he had had the BL17 standing beside his BL800x for some time, and after a while he thought that the BL800x seemed a bit 'oldfashioned'.
Greetings MM
Millemissen Thanks for the information.
I don't know personnally CEO Tue Mantoni.
I think, he is not the right person to manage Bang & Olufsen.
Hope, next CEO will understand the spirit of Bang & Olufsen.
I have the bad feeling that my Beo 12 collection, will be my last
purchase of B&O. Since David Lewis is gone, I don't recognize
my favorite brand. What a shame !
One quick question:
Do you recognize/judge the strenghts of Bang & Olufsen only by the design (of some of the spekers)?
OR
I guess the woodpecker is for Peter (the moderator)

The same thing was said when David Lewis replaces Jacob Jensen... History repeats its self...
Let's just see where the future brings us
Millemissen: One quick question: Do you recognize/judge the strenghts of Bang & Olufsen only by the design (of some of the spekers)? MM
Since the 60's the credo of Bang & Olufsen was the design.
I am a happy owner of Beo 12 collection. I will keep them preciously.
Alright then.
In my humble opinion design is ONE of the many credos of Bang & Olufsen.
Of course they are others Credo, quality of sound, picture and crafmanship....
But the new young CEO have no excuse to destroy the Classical collection.
Design design, design...
If I had to judge b&o only trough his design, well the beovision and beolab 12 would be the last thing I would buy from b&o.
4 beolab 5, beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2, 2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...
Bang & Olufsen's portfolio should have 3 ranges:
The Classical, iconic products
The new Modern, with new Designers
The BeoPlay, fashionable
BeoBoy68: Of course they are others Credo, quality of sound, picture and crafmanship.... But the new young CEO have no excuse to destroy the Classical collection.
I would say that he have a really good reason and that is the fact that Beolab 8002 don't sell. He is trying to save a company not let it go down with it's classic product which doesn't sell.
Beovision Harmony 77" 2nd Gen, Beolab 5, Beolab 17, Beosound 1, Beoplay M3, Beoplay Portal, Beoplay Earset, Beoliving Intelligence

+1 That's a FACT. Not fantasy !

If the classical, iconic products had still been attractive to customers in 2013 they would have still been selling in sufficient quantities to still be on sale.
They weren't so they aren't.
I wouldn't buy BeoLab 8000/6000/4000 now compared to current offerings from other manufacturers even with all the latest tech built in. I think they look old fashioned and very 90s. I guess the decline in sales figures suggests I'm not that unusual.
olvisab: emilos:He is trying to save a company not let it go down with it's classic product which doesn't sell. +1 That's a FACT. Not fantasy !
But why then redesign a product that is not selling anymore? Why not design a new product?
olvisab: Design design, design... If I had to judge b&o only trough his design, well the beovision and beolab 12 would be the last thing I would buy from b&o.
It is just a question of taste.
My dealer told me that actually the BeoLab 12s are the best sale for loudspeakers.
