Hi,
Welcome to Beoworld!
If you have an 80's Beomaster 6000 (but then no dial cord [edit: of course there is a dialing string] or belt here, just a belt for the motorized volume pot) it's easy, you have to unscrew the hex screws between the fins and the alu/glass panels and that's pretty much it, the whole top will happily flip over!

The Beomaster 6000 actually has a tuning string. Not a belt, but a real dial string.
What Jacques shows you is the correct way of getting in.

Mercian:Ah, I see, thanks Dillen . I'm hoping that it's just a few aches and pains because it's been stored in less than perfect conditions. I'll have a better idea when I open it up .... tomorrow I hope .
Do keep us informed!
These are quite easy to work on, being cleverly put together. The Beomaster 6000 actually uses the same chassis as that of the contemporary Beocords, if you look closely!
Yes the groaning sound is the volume belt indeed. Martin, by the way, has the adequate belt. But you probably already know that...
This would be a challenge for me to check my own BM6000 but it looks quite complicated to open it, or not?
Brengen & Ophalen
Oops, sorry I thought you guys were talking about the 4ch BM6000.
But I have this one as well that's going to be serviced by my own tech man.
Well Jacques , I've had a look and the good news is it seems to be an honest machine. IC5 on board 6 has either been resoldered or replaced at some point but apart from that there's no sign that anyones been in there. You were right , the volume belt does need replacing , it looked very tired and a brown film covered it . I cleaned the belt and gently worked the pulleys manually and while it now works it still grumbles now and again. Did you say Martin has them , I'm new , how do I contact him ?.. I also had a quick look inside the Beocord , as you would expect the drive belt was now a strip of sticky licorice . One of the wires soldered to the spring contacts at the rear of the cassette carrier had sheared off , not surprising as it flexes every time it's operated . As I've said the leads didn't come with these , I have a 6500 system which I bought last year , i dont know if the leads are compatible I'll have to check . Anyway play stopped there , a lovely sunny day and an apple tree that needed stripping intervened . Thanks and bye for now.
Good job so far!
Martin is none other than Dillen who answered you here!

He will also supply the Beocord belts.
The white BM6000 presented above in open position is still mine and working great. That actual picture was taken in 2008. Dillen saved the burned powersupply and other small things + supplied the remote printboard which were never installed before.
Oh! I downloaded this in 2009, it was still in my Beomaster 6000 folder. Sorry!
Glad to know it works like a charm!
On closer inspection the amount of lateral movement between the drive shaft and the reduction box is not good. Fitting a new belt at the moment would be pointless I'm afraid , putting even more strain on the box and likely killing the motor itself. As I say, not good.
