Anyone know what would cause my amp to buzz even in standby, the sound is perfect, it's the unit buzzing and it makes no difference what input is selected when it is powered on. It's annoying because I can't leave it plugged in.
My guess is the power supply but which bit of it ?
The transformer. It's a common issue and the only fix is to find a replacement trransformer that doesn't buzz froma donor unit.

Guessed as much, I work in security and the 12v transformers we use often end up doing this, cheers Martin
The surface that the Beomaster is sitting on can amplify the noise a lot. Try locating it on some different furniture and it might quiet down enough to be bearable. Soft rubber feet can work wonders too.

Agree - the surface can resonate with the transformer - it does depend how sensitive you are to this sort of noise. Martin's advice is clearly the ultimate but worth trying two squash balls cut in half as legs - used this on a Beomaster 3000 that was unbearable but was fine when suspended!

You can also make custom absorbers very easily with bathroom silicone that you can cast to your liking! Silicone is very effective too, and much cheaper than audiofool sorbothane stuff

There are 8 soft plastic bearings used for the transformer. They can go defect, become hard and break. Or become lose bolts. Replace them, they are still available and B&O Standard parts.
If it is the transformer itself that makes this noise, there is a Special spray available, called "Plastic", something very similar to a clear coat for car paint, but for electronics. The transformer get's sprayed with this clear coat, fixing the coils to the core.
Humming gone...
Not a unique B&O issue, its a common issue I run into with different audio equipment, no matter of brand. And the fenomen is unlogical, it can appear, and couple of month disapear.
My re-capped M75 are my precious diamonds.

Hi Die_Bogener,
I am looking for this spray as I have the same hum issue. Can you confirm which spray you are exactly referring to? A google search resulted in the attached image, but I am not sure this is the one.
Many thanks !
Yes, this spray will work for the transformer.
Diasassemble the transformer from the master and spray it several times from both sides. Let the material work inside the coils, it must penetrate the coils.
Many thanks Die_Bogener, much appreciated
Just as a help to others, I also now had issues with a humming BM7000.
I had some hot-glue strips 11mm width lying around, and I decided to try to see what happened if I cut 8 pieces of 3mm thick, and drilled a 5mm hole in them, and then replaced the old dry and crackled bushings with these new "rubber" bushings...
95% of the buzzing is now gone... :)
I don't know what the long term effect will be, but I hardly think that they will melt, even though the BM gets quite warm during periods of "loud playing" :)
Maybe if I used the plastic spray, I could get the buzz totally gone, but I will try to see if this is enough for me.
So far I am very happy with the lack of buzz ;)
