Hi there from New Zealand.  I have a new Beosound Encore and want to keep my old Red Line speakers and beosystem 5500 amp.  Is it possible to have the Encore interface to the old amplifier and speaker system?

I can do it using the line out on the encore but this leaves an aesthetically not nice looking jack cord coming out of the front of the encore.  I'd prefer to wire it into the old amp using the beolink output inside the encore.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Alexander,

the 'line-connection' on the front is a 'line-in' - won't help you.

Sure you could use the 'PowerLink-out' from the Encore to the 'A-AUX-in' on a BeoMaster.

You would have to put the Encore In Option 0, which means that it will not react to the remote control.

Alternatively in Option 4, which means that you would have to push 'Link' before any other command of the Beo4.

And you would have to find a descend volume level and leave it so (not touch the vol. wheel again), because the volume has to be regulated via the AudioMaster.

Not a nice way to use a Encore - certainly not very B&O'ish!

Not a very happy marriage imo 🏃💃

Thank you Milemissen.  I think it is the headphone jack I am using as AUX in to the 5500 amp with my ipod cable.

So, I can take a ?powerlink cable off the encore and plug it into the AUX in of the 5500?

I understand the remote control/sound issue.

Encore will be getting therapy for the bad marriage with the beolab 9's when affordable.

Thank you again.

How about replacing your 5500 for a (temporarely) power amplifier from a different brand, until the bl9's arrive. No volume control, display, remote etc.  Just a L/R input and a power-switch. The Encore is your pre-amplifier.

Thought about using a regular stereo amp as you suggest too  -- but decided I liked the "look" of B and O 5500, which in any case is a regular amp just with the unusual B and O connectors.

So if I'm right I can remove the centre pin from the cable

and plug it into the AUX of the 5500?  Or is that tempting trouble?

I've attached a picture of my set up to help explain.  THANKS!

Why not use a Beolink Passive?

Buy used, sell after the Beolab 9s arrive...

When it comes to suggestions, I would go for a 'PowerLink switch'.

Have a look at:

http://almando.com/index.php/b-o/almando-powerlink-switch-stereo.html

This device was discussed several times on the forum, and would make it possible to control both systems just as it is meant.

For convenience you would have to put either the Encore or the 5500-Master into 'option 4' - I would suggest the least used.

Please tell us on the forum how your set up finally will be , and if you are content with the way of controlling it - when time (and the BL9) comes.

P.S. You could use the same solution with your passive speakers, if you add a 'ML/MCL Converter'/'BeoLink Passive' as an amp for them!

Can't the BM5500 be set to not receive remote signals. if it is possible you could have it acting as a power amp, as already suggested, and the Encore acts as preamp with volume control (as it also does when connected to beolabs)

then on the other hand if you want to also use the BM and its IR receiver to controle CD and tape deck, you will have an issue...

...and how would you 'turn on' the BM5500 Confused

Set your BM5500 to A.OPT0. Now it won`t respond to any ir commands. Connect an MCL2A Kit (extra speaker kit) to SPEAKER2 sockets and connect your speakers (passive RL) to your MCL box. Set the extra speaker kit to L.OPT4. Now you can contol your BM5500 in LINK mode, pressing for example LINK - RADIO.

So just staying on topic,  is there anyway I can connect my Encore to my beosystem 5500 using the power link cable output on the encore?

I'd like the encore to go into the AUX IN of the old beosystem 5500 amp, but using the power link cable in the encore.

I do NOT want to use the line out jack on the front is it is not nice to look at.

Thanks again.

Hi Alexander,

I already answered that question in my first post.

You can find the right cable at Sounds Heavenly - just send Steve a message/mail.

Thanks.  Steve at Sounds Heavenly has saved the day again!  Custom cable on the way.
