I am looking at buying a 2nd hand Masterlink Gateway. Have different models been produced over the years or is there just one version?
Ikatu made the MLGW for Beo. They first produced the MLGW 01.
Since year 2009 the MLGW 02 is in production. There was no further hardware change, but you can update your MLGW via internet for new features like camera view and 2 way communication for N.MUSIC in Beolink app.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. So would type 1701 be a Mk 2?
I have seen one in a shop in the UK at a very good price! depends what price you would want. Thanks
m4spm: Thanks for the info. So would type 1701 be a Mk 2?
Yes, I think so. 1701 is mentioned in the latest pricelist from June 2013.
Although my MLGW is typenumber 1798/1799...??
What are the differences between version 1 and version 2? What can version 2 do that version 1 cannot? Can version 1 still receive the same firmware updates as version 2?
From ikatu site:
"Masterlink Gateway MK1: RS232 home automation interface to Beolink products for the US market."
And:
"Masterlink Gateway MK2: Ethernet and RS232 home automation interface to Beolink products. Global product".

So, MKII replaced MKI as a global device with additional ethernet socket. I don`t think that MKI will be still supported.
It stil isn't clear whether the MK1 is compatible with the BeoLink App and with the 2-way control of the BeoSound 5.
Seeing as the MK1 only has RS-232 and ML, I would say that no it won't support the BeoLink App or Two-Way.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
I have a 2nd hand Masterlink Gateway for sale. Are you still intrested?

It's a very old thread, I know... but does somebody know the differences between MLGW 1701 and MLGW 1799?
