Jeff,

Come to think of it, contact Leslie in Holland.

He does magic with restoring the acrylic covers to new condition.

AFAIAC, he is DA MAN when it comes to cosmetic work.

He could probably do what's necessary on your BG4000 cover.

Menahem Yachad:

Jeff,

I'll keep you in mind. But that's a tough order - I've already replaced 2 BG4000 covers with 4002 covers....Check out this last one.

Do you have any idea of the satisfaction when a previously dead or non-working BG tangential works flawlessly, after investing an average of about 20 hours of work? It's like an addiction Big Smile

Of course, I know them like the back of my hand by now, so I have very few of those frustrating moments of not knowing what to do.....

Love them......

Menahem

Menahem,

Yikes I see what you mean about the dust cover.

If you have a need of any others I was just about to list two Beogram dust covers on eBay.

The first is a Beogram 4004 which is in presentable shape. It is a replacement dustcover from B&O and has the B&O logo on the right, but nothing on the left, so it works with either 4002 or 4004. This dust cover has numerous light scratches, but nothing deep and no cracks. Plus the hinge is in great shape.

The second (Are you ready?) is for the Beogram 4000 with the correct brown tinted acrylic. This dust cover is also in presentable condition with numerous light and a couple of moderate scratches, but none deep. However it has two cracks by the left hinge, one is ¾ inch and the other is about one inch. Neither would be seen with the dustcover in position, unless you were really looking for them and they are together. The hinge is also in great shape. Unlike the 4004, this is a replacement B&O dustcover that comes with a faux metal foil with no B&O labels in place of the metal strip.

The replacement 4000 dustcover that I was gifted with by a fellow BW member has the same foil, but with the B&O labels, which I frankly prefer….. plus no cracks and less scratches, which I really prefer.

If you have a need for either I don’t know what to ask for them as they come up so seldom for sale. I know I paid about US$300 for the NOS replacement that is now on my 4004. (It came with a factory defect dead center, but otherwise is flawless as you’d expect for NOS. Both of mine are nowhere near NOS, so I figure US$50 for each plus shipping.

As for Leslie, the man is an artist AND a gentleman of the highest order! I enjoy restoration, like you, and I worked on my dustcovers for about four hours each, wet sanding beginning with 400 grit and finishing up with (I think, memory fails me) about 32,000 grit.

That said, I have NO doubt that Leslie could and would improve on my efforts.

Rich:

Menahem Yachad:

I just sold my most-treasured restored pristine BG4000, but only because I have located another non-working one.

For me, the greatest pleasure is restoring them, as opposed to actually owning them.

That's why I don't have a large collection. If I've worked on it, it's better than having owned it.

Menahem

That's how I feel about loudspeakers, but nothing else.  The greatest pleasure is in getting them back to working, especially a job like stuck P45 woofers.  When the novelty is worn off, most listening ends up going back to the S45-2s.

Rich,

I am delighted that you actually enjoy working on speakers, I really am. However I am so OVER this process that words fail me.

I did however enjoy recovering all my B&O speakers as that was actually fun. Søren gives fantastic instructions that made the job both easy and enjoyable….. even without one of Søren’s cubas.

Hi Jeff

Thanks so much for the offer. I have 2 spares right now, about 95% mint, so I don't need any more.

I prefer to buy my spares in Europe, firstly, because there is a ready supply from that era's vintage, and secondly, because the postage is (still) actually affordable - except from Denmark - which Martin unfortunately knows all about.

I'd hate to think what postage to me for a dustcover from Canada or the USA would cost !!!!!

Hi Menahem,

No problem whatever…. oy to I understand about postage costs, especially to Denmark.

The reverse offer still stands if ever you find a flawless or near flawless original dustcover for the 4000, I’d like it. I’ll scream, yell, and kvetch…. but I’ll pay the shipping.

Have a great weekend.

Jeff
