Hi all,
Has been a while since I last visited....new website site since then.
I have been thinking again about a newish TV for what we call the playroom. I currently have a panasonic plasma that was connected to a Beosystem 2 but that has since departed & have just been using it stand alone with a Zektor component switcher with Sky, Wii, Apple TV etc The DVD & amp duties were handled by a Linn Classik Movie 05 which is very good
I also have a RF Avant in what we call the adults room but since the link setup has gone it aslo has been used standalone.
I would like to perhaps kill two birds with one stone so to speak in that update the Playroom TV & reinstate the link system
My options are as follows fro trawling various sites for deals.
BV 7-40 MK2 with moto stand & 7.1 speaker at around £1500... I could use the stand & speaker later when I update the avant perhaps
BV 7-40 MK3 screen only at around £1500-2000... I have a pair of Beolab 3000 that I could use for L & R.
Beoplay V1 40 at around £1700
Beosystem 3 at around £2000
I do really like the 7-40 & did see compare the MK2 & the MK3 a few years ago & thought they were not too far apart.
I know the MK3 has the Beosystem 3 etc but I could add the HDMI expander to a mark 2 for not too much money.
If I could perhaps get a MK2 screen on its own I would perhaps go for that for the moment as its the least outlay & I could then use later to replace the avant.
What do you think?

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Was it But it now?
As it may have gone already!

Personally, having owned a BV7-40 MKIII (and then a MKIV), I wouldn't get a MKIII. It's quite old now, in LCD panel terms. The picture was ridicuously dark in places, on certain movies. Made dark movies hard to watch. The MKIV was a surprisingly huge panel improvement. My first MKIV BV7 broken down, 8 months after purchasing, B&O gave me a brand new MKIV and it was an improvement again. In those days, even 6 months between TVs resulted in big panel improvements. Less so over the last couple of years (for regular LCD). I'd only go for a MKIV or higher (I think the last revision was MKVI).
There were other advantages with the MKIV. You got an additional HDMI socket, in some cases, an internal Blu-ray player and a Freeview HD module!
I would recommend a BV7 though, for the audio experience. Just try and get a MKIV, even if it pushes up the budget by a few hundred pounds.
Yes a MK4 or `MK5 would be the best option but as I am only looking for screen only they will be hard to come by for reasonable money.
Does the Beosystem 3 handle multichannel PCM?
Been offered a late 2007 MK2 serial starting 2040.....in black with free view module & Beo4 for £800 & a wall mount
I dont really need the freeview but have been told worth something to sell on.
Does this sound Ok
The mk3 is a minimum.
Big difference with a mk2.
The mk4 is maybe better for HD content but for a mix of HD and non HD, the mk3 is far better.
I own led tv too and I must say that the non hd program are worst on it.
4 beolab 5, beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2, 2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...
Yes I would really like a MK3 but screen only for the additional HDMI & flexibility but they are hard to come by & they are a lot more money around £2000 ish. Plus I do not think the picture quality was that much better on a MK3 as the panel was the limiting factor, its just a higher resolution & a slight uplift in the contrast ratio.
The difference between a MKI & a MKII is bigger as the panel was far superior.
The Beosystem 3 could not make the panel any better on the MKIII, if you put a the BS3 on the MK2 panel I would think they would have similar picture quality.
I think they only really got better with later MK IV when the LCD panel improved a lot more.
My current Plasma a Panasonic 4 series vintage from 2002 has a great picture when fed with HD and it's only 480 resolution!
I think I will go for the MKII as if you take into account the other bits it not a bad deal just would have preferred it to be less!!
How much would the Freeview module be worth out of interest?
I had a beovision 5 and the picture was great too.
I had a mk2 before the mk3 (updated to the last software !) and I won't go back even if someone gives me one. I will refuse it.
The most important thing is that you agree with yourself and happy with your purchase.
I think you're missing a trick with the V1-40. Incredible value for money and a great TV with great sound and an incredibly good picture.

No idea why, but this 'Beosystem 3 is the difference' argument has been on this forum for many years, for a reason I can't quite comprehend. Without getting personal with anyone, I'm sure it's a lack of technical knowledge where people assumed 'ok, the BS3 is £5K, so it must be awesome!".
The difference between the MK2 and MK3 isn't the BS3. It's the 1080P panel. The MK2 was way better - at the time - for SD content, as it didn't need to upscale. When the MK3 was first released, with it's relatively early 1080P panel, HD was at a premium, so suddenly content looked blocky when upscaled. MK2 pictures, again at the time, looked better, so the MK3 looked inferior.
As most content is now sourced and presented in HD, the MK3 is definitely the minimum BV7-40 anyone should go for. It's quite old. I'm sure I had a MK3 in 2007. That's six years and six years is a hell of a long time in panel production. I'd seriously save up and go for a MK4, particularly if you were planning on keeping the TV for a few years.

We can discuss it in every way but 720p to 1080p is a huge improvment.
A bad panel is bad even with SD. That's why I far prefer a good beovision 5 than a bv 7 mk2.

It is nearly twice the price of a mk3.
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

Not when the MK3 was launched. There was very little HD, so SD was upscaled to the 1080P panel, so most TV channels suddenly looked like a downgrade compared to the MK2. And my quote was referring to the launch, not the MK3 in 2013.

On Lifestyles website, a MKIV is only £500 more http://www.lifestyle-av.co.uk/product_list.asp?sectionId=1
Based on my MK3 and MK4 experience, this is £500 worth spending.
If I was looking to spend £3000 on a MK3 TV & the MK4 is only £500 more I would either haggle a bit harder for the MK4 or stump the extra cash. Unfortunately I am not in a position to drop an extra £2500-£3000 on a TV at the moment & if I was then i would definitely get the MK4 or better.
I have got my MK2 now & I must say fed with a HD signal it is pretty good. it has only got 147 days on it!
Unfortunately I have a couple of issues, I am unable to get control of the Sky box fully. The D-pad is working as are the coloured buttons but not the numbers, it's not sending to the IR emitter. I have tried different ports & emitters but it cannot be that other the other functions would not work. Any ideas?
Plus I am unable to get the apple TV sound working, I currently have it set up as DVD2 on AV2 input, Audio on A2 via a QED Toslink to Coaxial convertor & C2 for control although bizarrely there is no ATV in the PUC list but there is NOW TV!
If I select DVD2 it changes to the ATV but the sound is carried over from the Sky on V.AUX which is all on inputs 1 i.e. AV1, A1 & C1
I would like to turn off both the tuners but am unsure if it is possible on this model as I would like to use the TV & DTV buttons for Sky etc.
I have also had to set up my Beolab 3000 as 4000's & connect both of them to the centre channel as your not able to select just a front pair.
The software is 7.91 & I am also able to select the HDMI expander.
Any thoughts would welcome.
Thanks

Sorry I thought you just compare them today.

But Lee offer for the mk3 is 800 pounds above what you can find in private sales.
If it was really a question of 500 pounds , then you are absolutely right.
