Hi,

I have a Beosound 8, original model with the 30 pin dock connector, and was wondering what you have done with yours, if you still have one?  Or have you sold / traded it for the Beoplay A8 / A9?

I know it won't look the best, but would this not solve the problem?

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter

I guess it depends on how high it sits, or could you run a cable form this to a device sat next to it? There must be a way of not wasting a device.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Why? Just stick an iPad 2 on it and you have a superb player. You can connect to the iPad 2 via Airfoil, too, so you can use the iPad as an AirPlay device.

Besides, I've found my BS8 seems to have audibly matured over the years.

Has anybody found a 30 pin Bluetooth adapter that is compatible with the BeoSound 8 that would make a simple more elegant solution?

On a similar note we have fitted many in wall iPort 30 pin docks as aux for a beolink system over the years. Most of the customers rather than upgrade the in wall  dock have put in a 30 pin Bluetooth adapter and they are a simple upgrade and work well. Have been unable to find a similiar product hat works with the BeoSound 8.

(If I had one,) I would go for the 'Moxxey solution' - the older iPodTouch'es (with the Airfoil Speakers app) would work well too.

Or - how about using it as a 'Link Speaker' - connecting an Active Link to the 'Aux-in' of the BS8.

Controlling it would maybe not be that 'family-friendly' - but for a 'nerdy-guy-setup' it would surely work.

I have a white BeoSound 8 in the bedroom and I use the little adaptor for use with my iphone 5, then take it off to sit my 3rd gen iPad on it.

I'm ashamed to say that it's the most glamorous "charging station" in the house. It charges up my iphone from flat to full in about an hour, and can do my iPad from flat to full faster than an actual mains charger!

Well, when I bought it a few years ago I also purchased the Airport Express and have been using it as a 'link' speaker to my iTunes setup. We also have a Beolit 12 (upstairs and into the garden during the summer) and we play music to that too.

How about this one:

Seems quite neat - and supprts both AirPlay and DLNA (but not Bluetooth!).

You could - maybe - put a different sticker on the front Stick out tongue

N.B. I have no personal experience with it, but would be tempted to try it out - if I had a bs8.

Hi Stoobietoo,

please tell us how you control it.

Must be somewhat tricky to have to control both systems at one time.

We just keep using our BS8 with an iPad 2. No need to change or upgrade anything.

iPad 2 with the 30 pin connector is still in production so personally I think both B&O and half of its customers just over-reacted to the introduction of the lightning connector.

The lightning connector is NOT the problem (who docks nowadays anyway?).

It is the lack of AirPlay that makes the real difference, BS8 to A8.

Me.

BS8 provides charging and play. Nothing wrong with the A8, but wrt the original post why would you go to the trouble of getting rid of your BS8 if you were happy with it 12 months ago? The BS8 actually looks good with an iPad parked on the top.

A 30 pin bluetooth adapter would be a perfect solution. Haven't found one that actually works however. Still looking for one for my Bose Sounddock and cannot recommend a specific make yet.

Probably this bluetooth adapter will work with a Beosound 8:

http://www.viseeostore.com/products/viseeo-tune2air-wma1000.html

It's not only for cars, but also for IPod docking music systems. I think it's worth a try together with a BS 8.

Although I have a Beoplay A8, I use my old Ipod touch fitted on top of A8. So no need to charge Ipod touch because A8 does this job and no chance for dropouts when listening to music stored on the IPod. I think this is the best solution if you have an old Apple device with 30pin connector. Sometimes I stream music via Airplay from my IPad mini to A8, but I really hate dropouts, even if this happens very rarely.

Completely agree with this. Looks odd with an iPhone or no device at all (another reason I've not bothered with an A8).

I'm considering an A9 though, but will keep the BS8.

Thanks guys, yeah I still have the Beosound 8, was mainly wondering how you still use it (albeit as an undrer shirt structure), good to see that people haven't sold them on.  I do like the inbuilt airplay of the A8/A9.

I did buy a Bluetooth dongle / adapter that docked on the 30 pin connector, but i found the one i bought not that great and there are probably better ones now.

I ultimately sold my BeoSound 8 and used the money to go toward an A2 and a pair of H8 instead :-)

The BS8/A8 is such a piece of great design.

I'm now deciding between if i should buy an A9 rose golden or the new A6 to pair with my Avant.  These will be placed in a different room to the Avant.

Hi Michael

I have been trying out a few of these 30 pins bluetooth receivers /dongles but none seems to work at all. The pairing can be done but nothing happens after that. The BS 8 continued in its sleep mode. Sleep. Even tech. from Aluratek is not confident about that.

I am surprised you managed to get one work that is compatible with BS 8. Can you still recall the brand and model?

My BeoSound 8 is connected to my network via airport express (ethernet). But i use my iPod touch 4th generation too. (A double bind seems to prolong a relationship as some psychologists tell). But for a good relationship I have to connect either the iPod via dock thus excluding airport express or take the iPod off to use airplay via airport express.

They did show on the Idea Catalogue the Belkin Bluetooth receiver

I can't recall the brand of mine, I think I got it in Hong Kong

Tks. I've looked through the catalog. The proposed solution is based on Belkin bluetooth receiver which you connect into the line input behind the B8. Not really a neat solution as you simply end up having to many cables here and there.

something like this will be good.

Is there really no (small) 30 pin connector bluetooth adater, that will work with the BeoSound 8?

I recently tried this one without luck:

Sorry Ralf,

I was entirely asking for a '30 pin connector bluetooth adapter' to use with the BS8.

There are tons of good working small devices with an audio-out for the Aux-in.

A lot of these '30 pin connector bluetooth adapters' seem to work well with numerous docks,

but NOT with the BS8 (and a couple of others).

What is so different by that combination???

I have been searching for a 30 pins bluetooth receiver for my BS 8 for quite some time but without much success. Below are replies I got from the varoous tech. support teams ;

Reply from WaveJamr

Unfortunately the WaveJamr and similar dongles are not compatible with the BeoSound 8's 30pin connnector - the dock expects a data presence that the dongle does not provide (but attached iDevices do).

Reply from Aluratek

It would depend on the dock that is installed on the stereo. If the dock does not require an active data pin, it should be fine. If the dock requires and active data pin, you probably won't be able to use any audio adapter with it.

Thanks - so it seems, that we won't be able to use one of these small 30 pin connectors ;-(

Using a small BT-dongle with the line-in connection is easy, but rather unhandy because it needs a power supply of some kind.

Answer to the OP:

I use mine with an old iPod Touch, that is online

Kind of a different matter, but thought its best to ask here than start a new thread.

I have a BeoPlay A8, and I was wandering if there is a way to add it to a Multiroom setup. Is it possible with an Essence? Is it even worth it?

@hadr

I did not try that (yet!), but I don't see why not!

You would - to avoid a double volume control - have to run the Essence box as a fixed line-out into the A8, and control the volume there. This would sort of criple the 'wheely' a bit

You will have to use the BeoMusic app as the main interface - which you would anyway in a multiroom setup.

It is more or less the same, that I do with my Essence (box), which is connected to my old (ML) AudioMaster.
