I see that the recommended speaker for a BeoCenter 9000 is the RL 60. I have not heard a lot of good things about the RL series, so what would be a good match in a passive speaker?

I would say that RL 60.2 is a perfect match for BC9000. They matches time, design, power handling and they sound wounderful.

I don't know who you have been listening to but in my opinion there is very little wrong with a pair of RL60.2's when used with the Beosound 9000.

(You of course mean the Beocenter 9000, Graham!)
Same here. I have a pair of RL60.2s in the office, run by a Beocenter 8000 (same amp) and I'm very happy with the combo after I recapped the speakers. It's not a party setup simply because the Beocenter doesn't have that much power, but within its limits the setup sounds great.
You can also try RL6000s (newer, slightly updated model of the same speaker) but steer clear from RL60s (without the .2) with their rotted off bass radiators.

Hi Graham,
I had to think about that for a moment and having remembered the source of the negative comments on the RL series, I have good reason to not only “consider the source,” but to actually consider the rants and tirades discredited.
I am using the Beovox 3000 (Flat Panel) speakers with my BC9000 and I can say they sound very, very good. But if you are fan of deap Bas than they are not for you...

I thought it best in order to get a real open dialog; to simply ask the question while omitting the reason for the question. Does that make any sense?
Anyway, I have the option of using either S 45.2 or S 75 speakers with my BC 9000 and because I AM (admittedly) a fan of a lot of bass, I chose the S 75’s.
This choice allowed me to use the S 45.2 speakers with my Beomaster 2400, which is a great pairing.
However while reading various posts vis-à-vis proper matching of amplifier to speakers; it occurred to me that the S 75’s might be a bit of a stretch for the 30 to 40 watt BeoCenter.

Think outside of the box. Use any make/model of speaker you like. I drive a pair of award-winnng PSB Mini Stratus's (in piano gloss black on stands) with my Beosystem 6500. Perfectly pleased with the pairing.
