What is the new audio product? Anyone knows?.

I hope they soon will release a product that will make it possible to play different music/radio in different rooms.
Like for instans Sonos..
same concept like SONOS; + same tablet style, nothing special
Normann: I hope they soon will release a product that will make it possible to play different music/radio in different rooms. Like for instans Sonos..
FYI, with NL equipment and a BS/BM5 you can do just that. Except for separate N. Radio stations in each room.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
OK? I have an Bs5/BM in an ML setup linked to different room, but no NL product yet :)
will this work if i connect a bV with NL and a NL/ML converter ?
Yes and no. With out a NL Converter simply turn the Music Server to on if it isn't already on the BS/BM5. Then access the home media source on your new NL BV. Voila!! All stored audio on your BS/BM5 will now appear on the BV. If you want syncopation/N. Radio then you will need a NL Converter and ML Delay box.
Anyone knows more ?
The product should be unveiled now...
New audio product "BeoSound Essense"

Another interesting thing is the pairing bottom. Is that to pair with the wireless speakers?
Looks like an interesting product, although I will miss a bit of the screen on the BS5(E) I'm not always having my tablet/phone next to me when I want to listen to music.
I believe everything is WISA compliant going forward. I'm happy to see the product finally released!!
Not sure if anyone noticed, but it's on the B&O website.
BeoSound Essence: http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/beosound-essence
Specifications: http://www.bang-olufsen.com/~/media/BeoMobile/Images/Sound/BeoSound%20Essence/BeoSound_Essence_product_sheet.pdf
Effectively, this is a PlayMaker, with a simple (yet better designed) controller? ie. it's not a 'new audio system'?
I guess, unlike the PlayMaker, the box can connect wirelessly to your speakers, so could be hidden almost anywhere.
Unfortunately not. The specification pdf says:
Connection between hide-away box and speakers:
Wired. If you want wireless connection between the BeoSound Essence and your speakers (featuring Immac- ulate Wireless Sound i.e. BeoLab 17 or BeoLab 18): Just add BeoLab Transmitter 1 to your setup.
So not wireless speakers without the Transmitter. I guess they try to make the product cheap to produce and thereby sell.
Another thing surprising me is that it says:
1 X IR (for future use)
theoretical question. Could you also use BSE in a different room and use Beosound 5 as musicserver (unlike Beosound 5 use via N.Music in Linkroom) ?

Exactly. You do get a remote so you can control the Aux -n without the need for a Beo 4. Sadly, it looks like there is no WISA in it. The pairing button looks to be for the remote and additional remotes you can add to it. I don't see away to control it with a Beo 4 just yet either.
This product is not meant to be an Audio Master. More of a PM supplement.
Kelwin: Wired. If you want wireless connection between the BeoSound Essence and your speakers (featuring Immac- ulate Wireless Sound i.e. BeoLab 17 or BeoLab 18): Just add BeoLab Transmitter 1 to your setup.
I wonder why they couldn't build the Transmitter in to the control box? I'm confused! What does this Essence do, then? You'd still need an iPad or computer to locate the music you want to play, anyhow, surely?
pf85: theoretical question. Could you also use BSE in a different room and use Beosound 5 as musicserver (unlike Beosound 5 use via N.Music in Linkroom) ?
Since it's DLNA compliant you could at least send the N.Music you have on the BSM5 to the Essence. How you would navigate it is what remains to be seen.
Interesting product. Does the hide away box have to be beige plastic? I thought Bang and Olufsen is a luxury brand.........maybe not.
No WISA to keep costs down. If you throw WISA on, it would be most likely $595 more. A smart move. You want more people to adopt it, then keep that feature off till the costs come down and in the mean time if you want/need it, simply add the Transmitter 1. Makes complete sense to me. Just like BeoSystem 4, not everyone needs to have the fully loaded model.

Interesting thought. I have heard the complaints of how if B&O would not lacquer up the BM5/BM1 or BS4 then the cost could have been even lower, it is however a hidden box right? I think they transferred the design ethos to the dial not the brains again.
Design looks good but not innovative ! Design looks like the french Devialet remote control ! Simply nice.

Yes you still need an iPad etc to select the music, however you do to need to keep picking the pad/phone up, entering your pass code, and loading the app to change volume, pause etc when the phone rings or someone wants to talk to you.
maybe it's just me, but this is a major pita with airplay/Sonos etc. also, my wife always comes in and puts radio 4 on. For her to just walk into a room and press a button (like we used to, with a BeoSound and beoline actives) will make her year for the same reasons as above.
Difference I guess with the PlayMaker is you have direct access to I-net radio stations and Spotify Connect. So the app that goes with it is just the controller, not your source as with the PlayMaker.
QPlay no Idea what it is.

I think you missed the concept. It is exactly what she is looking for in the manner of walking in and hitting the play button. It seems that's why they designed the knob. Wall or table mounted designed to speak to the system direct without having to grab the phone. Hence the arrow buttons for track navigation. Beyond starting N.Music or selecting a specific station you shouldn't have to touch the idevice/phone. Seems like this will really connect with Spotify users as connect can shift the burden to the Essence.
DoubleU: QPlay no Idea what it is.
qplay is a free GPL-software project.
It tries to extends the long list of front-ends for mpg123 and ogg123. It is written in C, using ncurses library to display a user-friendly inferface to manage a play- and queue-list and has a module(-like) system to add some new file formats. The playlist can be played in sequence or in shuffle mode. The queuelist always plays in sequence and has a higher priority, thus favored songs can be played one behind the other. The list can be sorted with a merge-sort or randomized.

You want more people to adopt it, then keep that feature off till the costs come down and in the mean time if you want/need it, simply add the Transmitter 1. Simply? Two large grey boxes, just to play some music? :) Then the controller and something to locate the music. I'm not sure that's simple. The boxes need to be hidden somewhere too. I suppose you could look at the Essence as a Beo4 replacement. Like Rednik says, and I agree with, I don't use the iPad to control volume, mute the audio and so on. I tend to use a Beo4 to achieve this. So I guess if you view Essence as a PlayMaker with volume control, then it does make some sense. Just a same you need another box to wirelessly connect. If this was an 'all-in-one', I'd have it without hesitation.

I hope a mod has noticed that something has gone wrong with the board formatting in this thread? :)

Agree. The box is hidden but according to designer Jony Ive at Apple, design on the inside is as important as the exterior. (paraphrase). The remote does resemble the Devialet remote. I do like the RCA line in sockets. I may keep my Beogram 7000 after all.
Is it safe to assume that the NL part of this is the ethernet connection possibly to one's home router?
Ok, so Bang & Olufsen has now put the foot on the "fully dematerialized hifi"...
Basically, that's a Sonos system, and that's a good thing.Better than the Sonos because of the simple controller to quickly change track or volume, something that is cruelly lacking on a Sonos system.
I must confess that I would have preferred a "Nest thermostat" device with a circular color display in the middle instead of this device, just to show cover art in the rooms... But that's a good design if you use it mainly wirelessly, consumes less power...
BUT the big thing will now be what's not shown here : the app. As the hifi is almost entirely dematerialized (only thing visually accessible is the control button), the interface of the app will be the main focus point. And B&O has to make a luxury interface, smooth, simple, elegant, bug-free!My big concern is if it will have the MOTS algorithm integrated...
diisign.com
Yes, agreed.
Most people missed the part with the app.
That the new wireless module is not included to me is a good move to keep cost and size down. Also, so many people asked for a nicer playmaker.
The App if it pulls together itunes/ipod and spotify in a nice way could be awesome.
I am looking forward to this, if the App works without I will use my playmaker some time longer though.

If I have all my music on a QNap NAS can I use the app to play music from the nas without having to have it on my phone /ipad, and if I have more than one essence can I play different music from the one nas in multiple room?
thanks
