Hi there

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there with regards to PowerLink cable compatibility between BeoLab 5 and PowerLink cables. Do I need Mkii cables or Mkiii?

I have just ordered Mkiii and I am worried they will not work, so I want to change them before it's too late with your help!

It says on the Mkiii description below on the website:

(translated) Black Power Link MKIII cable BeoLab 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (not the first gen.)

I do not believe my BL5 are first gen, so based on this I believe they should work?

My BeoLab 5's were purchased brand new 2 years ago, serial numbers 2267XX and 22683XX.

I will be connecting to my BeoLab 5's:

- BeoSound 5 Encore

- Onkyo AVR using the trigger cables below

I know many of you might say, why not go for the Mkii anyways? Well I was using some trigger cables before with RCA -> powerlink and they worked nicely, but there was a noticeable "hum" in the audio, which I have read online that Mkiii cables solves this issue. So this is why I want to try the Mkiii.

Please if anyone could advise me I would appreciate it :)

Thank you!

Here is what I ordered:

Im not 100% certain but what I have heard is that BL5 needs the 8 pin PL. In other words you do need mkII.

Thanks for your response.

That's also what I've heard, however that's the problem, no one seems certain.

I guess it's because the BeoLab 5 isn't the most common of B&O speakers..

I'm hoping someone who has dealt with new generation BL5's will be able to provide some solid info!

It is the first time I hear about that the newer version should work with PL mkIII. The differences that I know about is that the later has figure 8 power cable socket. And they changed the crossover frequencies between the speaker elements. My personal view is that the newer versions of BL5 from 2009 sounds a bit better.

I hope that you find a solution to your problem.

Interesting! Unfortunately I never had the chance to test the BL5's before then so I couldn't compare! But happy with mine, except I feel i'm not getting the most out of them due to not having all B&O hardware - thread here -

Thanks! I hope so too :) I find stuff confusing when it comes to B&O, but it's definitely all worth it in the end :)

Surprise surprise, the newer gen BeoLab 5's DO NOT work with Mkiii cables.

Only with mkii.

I think ONLY the first gen BL5's work with Miii cables.

Hi,

I can inform you all that there is None of BL5 speakers that works with MKIII cables ! that is 100% shure !

Beolab 5 need powerlink data to work and that cable are missing in MKIII, only MKII or the new shielded 6wire cable works
