Is Beosystem 4 an AV RECIEVER or should i buy av reciever (marantz, etc)for beolab 14 speakers 5.1 movies only? You know dts-hd,true HD original blurays?

Please help me out i do not wanna pay 4k for something that might not be it.

In the b&o store they said i gain more surround quality with reciever instead of beosystem 4 so now i am lost :(

BS4 supports the following formats:

Multichannel PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus 7.1, DTS Digital Surround, HE-AAC v1 and v2, LC-AAC, mp3, WMA, WMA lossless, FLAC.

.. and i will have to disagree with your B&O dealer. If you currently own a BL14 5.1 setup you will gain an excellent surround experience with BS4.
It have all the features you would want, and everything in regards to BL14 is allready programmed into it.

On top of that, the BS4 is packed with a lot of features that you won't gain from a traditional AV-reciever (USB/HDD playback, PUC control etc.)

From what I understand the BS4 does not itself handle the new Dolby & dts HD sounds but needs the Blu ray player to decode the sound and send it as linear PCM.

I think the bs4 would work fine with Beolab 14.

Please share how you rate the sound and performance of the Beolab 14.

Basically it does not matter where the decoding of rhe HD-sound formats take place.

Any for the HD-sound format certified decoder will do the same job.

Of cource the BL14-set will work well with the BSys4 - the dealer who says otherweise digs his own grave!

The BL14-combo is great for movies and multichannel sound.

If you are more into 2-channel listening (stereo/music), you should rather choose BL17's (or whatever you can afford).

I have been critical of my Beolab 14 system mated to a Beovision 11-46. Tonight we watched Gravity with the volume at about 63, and it was utterly amazing.

Day to day, i find it a bit of a wet blanket and am always wanting more from it. Put in a quality film like Gravity in BluRay, and it will match the cinema.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
