Or sell the BM 6500 and pick up a BM 5000 or 5500. Keep in mind the BM 5000 needs a different MCP/hand-held remote vs. the 5500. The BG 3500/4500/6500/7000 are rare and in-demand since they have built-in preamps.
Or you could install one of the original RIAA preamplifier accessories made for BeoMaster 6500/7000. That would also retain Datalink functions!
Only requires a bit of soldering and cutting two jumpers on the preamplifier board (PCB3).

Is it quiet like in very low sound or like in completely no sound at all? If both channel sound normal on "'speakers 2', then the output amplifier should be OK.
It could be caused by a stuck mute relay - quite common fault - but it would usually go silent in both channels on 'speakers 1' then.

Even if the right channel does not come back to life it is still probably the relay.

Thanks MediaBob - I would rather stay away from the 80s BM5000. I had one previously but swapped it up for a 5500 to enable use of the beautiful Beolink 1000 controller.
There's also the issue of the aluminum finish mismatch (if the units are aluminum coloured). Perhaps it doesn't matter to everybody, but I couldn't stand looking at the brushed 5000/5500 series and polished 6500/7000 series units mixed in the same stack.
As to the muting relay problem, try operating the muting function dozens and dozens of times on the remote. Sometimes it cleans the contacts and it starts to work again. There's an equal chance that it doesn't though, and then the only options are to replace the relay, or move the speakers to the no.2 connectors and live with the power-on pops (and no muting function).

Quiet as in no sound at all through the right channel. Sorry, should've been clearer when I made my last comment.
I think you're right though. I tested the sound in the kitch running through MCL and I'm getting a good stereo response.I only picked the BM up last night so by the time I drove it home and set it up it was too late to play loud music.However I did hear some crackles of music coming through the quiet (right) channel once I buzzed into the 50s on the volume scale.
Judging by the little trace of rust on the mains fuse I suspect it's been in storage for a while. I remember my BM5500 was similar when I first played it - it'll warm up and hopefully when I get home tonight I can give it a proper trial.
The most pleasing thing about my lovely shiney 'new' BM6500 is the headphone stage works properly (my BM5500 didn't pan left/right correctly through headphones). It brings a lovely new level of punch and clarity to my Grado headphones - very good indeed.
Another bonus about the 6500 over the 5500 is when I cycle through the 'sound' menu the loudness feature appears as an option, unlike on the BM5500 where you can only activate it by using the crafty shift-reset button on a Beloink 1000 (I didn't have a MCP).
So once I get dual channels working on passive speakers 1 I'll be keen to find myself an RIAA
Mika thanks for your feedback - I missed it in the rush of replies You'd have a shock if you saw the mis-matching I'm rocking at home! Not only do I have the brushed finish of the BC5500, then on top of that the polished finish of the BM6500 but on top of that I have a BGCD3500 (grey finish)!

Regarding the relay tips - appreciated. I'll see how it plays when I get home tonight. As I've already heard a little blip of music from the quiet channel when I experimented late last night I'm sure it'll pop back into life with a little encouragement. If it resists I'll keep switching the mute relay on and off as you suggest.
Graham, good spot. T'was indeed in need of a little gentle encouragement with the volume control. All working fine now. Sounds a lot clearer than my BM5500 too. Must be the comparative newness of it - sounds airy and fresh, if that makes sense?
