I'm very happy with my new (to me anyway) Avant TV, but when I picked it up, the former owner handed me the bottom plate for the stand. Can anyone let me know how to mount the Avant back on the stand bottom plate? I tried just setting the TV back on top, but I can hear the motor run when I try to turn it, but it does not move.

I've only ever removed the aluminium cover from the base on my avant to prevent it getting scratched whilst moving and that is just attached with double sided tape. I've never removed the stand entirely but the service manual appears to indicate there are four screws involved. The disassembly instructions state the following:-

Carefully place the BeoVision Avant RF on its side.
Remove the 4 pieces of tape covering the holes in the bottom of the motorized
stand. Turn the motorized stand until the 4 holes in the bottom are aligned with
the screws. Unscrew the 4 screws to remove the motorized stand.

I'm not sure if this answers your question as I'm not entirely sure which part of the stand has been removed on your Avant.

Does this help at all? If not maybe post a photo if you can.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

From looking at the service manual it looks like there should be a single bolt or screw in the bottom center. Makes sense, so I'll flip it over this weekend to check.

Yes, a single 4 x 8 mm screw, but then I had to install a set screw to connect the bottom plate more firmly to the center point that moves the position gear. It took a little fooling around, but I just about got it to position properly. Once I turned it back over, the tv will only turn if I help it a little. So now I'm ordering some PTFE grease to try to bring the friction points back to spec. I found an equivalent to the original brand called out in the service manual. The old grease really needs to be cleaned up. I hope to have it by Tuesday.

I found the right Teflon grease in a bicycle shop. It seems to be a really good chain grease. I cleaned the old grease of the bottom plate and mating surface, applied a liberal amount of new grease on the friction points, and reinstalled the bottom plate. Once I put the TV back upright, success! The tv stand now works properly. One more step forward.

And now the TV won't turn on. When I turn the TV using my remote it starts the power up sequence, but the electronic screen never "opens". The screen just stays black and the audio stays muted. It doesn't matter which input I use. Is it gone now?

Is the standbye light lit?  If not, someone may have switched off the set accidentally via that silly orange/red button hidden underneath the screen at the front.  As you say it starts the power up sequence, I guess it's connected OK.

Otherwise, try disconnecting from the mains for a few minutes and then plug it back in again and try again.

TV's do funny things - my BV7 the other night would not respond to any command from the BEO4.  Unplugged it, plugged it in again and all is perfect again.

Dave.

Thanks for that Dave. The power seems fine and I did try unplugging it for 15 minutes, but then the same thing happened. I'm going to try unplugging it for the rest of the day before I give up on it.

Hi Dom,

did you try the orange/red button under the screen?.  Try re-seating all of the connections at the rear too.

Dave.

I have the Avant US, and I couldn't find a switch under the screen. Maybe this model doesn't have one? I'll take the back off and reseat the connections just in case that helps.

So now I must say goodbye to my Avant. Before I take it to the recycling center, I'll ask here if anyone in the central Massachusetts area would like it as a project or parts donor unit. If you live nearby I'd even deliver it to you. Please send me a PM if you are interested.

Maybe it's a good thing that I'm a bit lazy... My wife: "So how much would it be to fix that TV (BV Avant 32)?" Me: "huh? I don't know, but it would be $150 bench charge to find out." Which started me thinking that I already replaced the TV in my bedroom, each of my kids have there own TVs, we have one in the family room, one in the kitchen, and I already have a home theater with a projector. I don't really need another TV. Then it hit me - I don't collect Bang and Olufsen because I need them, but because I want them. So, I'm going to hang on to my green BeoVision Avant USA for just a bit longer. When I get it fixed, it will go into the guest room! Thanks to my better half.
