I've been re-orginizing a system recently and ended up having something odd happen.

Set up: BeoSystem3 V.option   /  Beosound4: A.option  /  Various Active link rooms

I accidently hit N.Radio in a link room and it activated my BeoSound 4 which displayed N Radio on the display.

Now I'm aware that Nradio and Phono are the same code ( the reason I even hit it was due to a recently unconnected BM7000) but why would the Beosound4 respond?  It supports neither Phono nor Network Radio ( as far as I know) connectivity.

This is a North American model.  Does it have something to do with DAB radio which is not supported in North America?

I am pretty sure the Beosound 4 supports n.radio (as Beosound 9000, Beosound 3000 - with min. sw levels)

Thanks guys.  I guess my question could of been phrased a bit differently.  I realize that it's not as much of whether it supports it, but rather:

Why would a Beosound of any kind respond to a command for a service that is not:

1. Active internally ( CD AMEM, Radio).

2. Not directly connected (N.Radio/Phono, etc to a BeoMaster).

3. Not anywhere on the Masterlink network and therefore not advertising itself as even available.

Is this normal?  I would assume it would just pass the command on and/or ignore it altogether.

N.Radio is active internally. It just doesn't have a dedicated hardware button.

Does your BS4 respond to an A.AUX-command, even though there is no signal on the RCA-in?

Does it respond to a CD-command when there is no CD inside?

I believe it does.. What's the problem?

There's no problem DoubleU.  Just a curiosity about something that seemed a little odd.

Obviously, it would be "answering" A.Aux and CD commands from the network as those are internal sources.  By saying that a BS4 has N.Radio functionality "active internally" are you simply saying it has the ability to recognize and receive audio from N.Radio sources ( Beoport, etc.)?

Or are you saying it has actually has the ability to BE a N.Radio source?

If you mean the latter I guess I would find that surprising unless N.Radio commands were being utilized by the optional DAB modules in some markets.  Is there any other way that a BS4 could be a N.Radio source?

I hope I'm not being thick here, I really do just want to understand.

No problem! I didn't understand the question so it seems, but I see what you mean now. For usability it doesn't make a difference. If you select CD, A.AUX or N.Radio, and there is none of them available, the BS4 will wake up, but doesn't know the source is empty. I think that's the best way to understand.

No, the BS4 doesn't have the ability to be a N.Radio source. Like you said, only receive audio from a N.Radio source. BeoPort for example.
