Hello,

I am sure ths is not a new question as to what to use to replace the adhesive tape for the aluminum deck and panel that covers the tone arm on the BG 8000 when it comes loose. I did a search on the old forum but maybe did not use the correct key words and came up with nothing. I seem t recall a mention of 3M doubled sided foam tape. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have done 4 of these and use epoxy glue. I know some have used carpet tape, but I found glue to be stronger and it gave a very satisfactory finish.

I don't know if it's the same, but I found carpet tape to be a near exact match for the pieces on a TX.

2-comp epoxy for the right side lid, liberal amounts of contact glue for the platter surround.
I glue in a handful of metal washers under the right side lid in suitable thickness to compensate for
the loss of the foam tape height and shim the panel to sit flush with the dustcover.
Make sure you have the Beogram on a plain and smooth surface and all its rubber feet are present and good
while you glue or the lid will not sit nice and/or conflict with the dustcover.

They used double sided foam taple so why not keep it original and do the same? There are various suppliers, can recommend the one that is sold for attaching number plates to cars, like that one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/double-sided-foam-tape-33766

Because you would end up with the same messy problem again in 6 years.

Also since 1985 ?
Surely, the butyl foam used hasn't improved a bit and that seems to be the problem.
The sticky tape seems to hold on nicely (actually too good if you are to remove the old stuff).

Thanks everyone, This is why this site is so great, ask a question about something rather trivial and you get such great responses. I especially thank you Leslie for your kind offer to send the tape, but I live in Boise, Idaho which would cost you a fortune to ship it to me here in the states. Actually I should be able to get the 3M tape here. I think I am leaning towards the epoxy and glue solutions however. Thanks all, John

You're welcome! Btw, it doesn't cost a fortune, 3E by regular postSmile If you gonna decide for 3M sticky tape make sure you get the right one, but be carefull though, once the panel has placed it stays, no adjustments afterSuper Angry

I have used 2-comp epoxy for both...And also for the glass-panels on my BeoSystem 4500 and BeoCenter 9500. They will never come loose again Big Smile
