Hello,

This gorgeous deck came with an excellent SP10, it is in good condition overall - except for the infamous desiccated rubber feet that make any metal around rusty, only screws here.

Now my query is the following: the deck is complete, but one part is missing. It is part 21, simply called "mat" in the service manual.

Could any of you show me what it looks like, what it is made of, and, most importantly, measure its three dimensions?

Thanks!

Number 20 is the strobo disc if I'm not mistaken.
Not missing in the photo.

Hi Jacques,

It's a thin piece of yellow foam. I can't just lift the strobo disk off the centre to measure it. I'll look again tomorrow in the daylight.

Is it double-sided adhesive foam that holds the strobodisc to the platter base ?

Not quite. It seems as if it may be stuck underneath (but I haven't tried to lift it yet) but the strobo disc is just freely resting on the top of it. There is no residue of any fixative. It just seems to be a way of raising the disc more neatly with the adjoining black mat.

The strobe (pressed metal) is held by the rubber mat in which a groove is moulded around its inner circle to do so.

There is no trace of any adhesive anywhere.

Without the missing part, the whole mat, including the strobe disc, is not held firmly in place, even with the circlip at its end stop down the spindle.

I quote Tim:

"The turntable platter and mat looked similar to those of the Beogram 1000 but were different in detail, for example the centre silver section was a metal pressing instead of a plastic moulding. To prevent resonances this was damped from underneath by a foam rubber disc."

And there I was thinking the black mat was just loose on the TT.  I hadn't spotted the groove for the tachodisc but yes, it is there.  But how to get to that circlip to remove it?  It's really awkward to get to because of the 45 rpm adapter on top of it.  I can't measure the foam unless I take the tachodisc off.  I'll get around to it - I'm setting up my new ATV4 at the moment and multi-tasking is not a strong point of mine.

The circle just moves up along the spindle. Edit: chez Jacques, the EP adapter is free to be lifted out.

Thanks for bothering Dave!

I will post a picture tonight.

There. I seem to miss ring number 15 as well then. Is there some sort of spring?

My adapted doesn't seem to want to lift out! Not sure what part 15 is yet?

I won't. I'd call it quits before then as much as I'd like to help.

Here from my BG 1000, the lower of the 2 rings is from the center piece, just a retainer ring, pull up the center piece with the ring, if very hard add a little oil to the spindle

Progress.  I got the adapter off but the split ring was very tight.  I haven't managed to lose it yet.  I just need to find my circlip tool to take the clip off to measure the foam.

I'll be back!

Hi Jacques, mission accopmlished.

Photo of the TT off and the parts, including the foam which is not fixed in any way:

And the measurements.  The foam is approximately 4mm thick though I suspect was a bit more when new.  The other dimensions can be calculated from this picture.  It does not reach the outer circumference of the strobodisc.
I have now put it all back together including inserting the tachodisc in the groove of the mat.  Much more stable now.

Hi Jacques. Check out eBay.de and search for Beogram 1800. I saw two today, one is 489 EUR and the other is 549 EUR! Madness. They aren't that scarce.

Yes, I've come across those. As you say, sheer madness. They don't even look very good at all!

There is another one up for auction too, currently at 23 €. I paid 50 € for mine with a very good SP10... It just needed some lubrication and the foam disc.

The trouble with those seems to be corrosion, and mine is okay fortunately.

Hi Robin,

That manual is one of those I still miss, unfortunately.

Not so common I’m afraid.

If ever you came across a mint one, do tell us!

I’ve been looking for years, I must say.

Jacques
