moxxey:Actually, that looks better than the M5!
I agree. It also has many many colour options and the new models look even nicer. I bet they sound better too and I know they are cheaper.

That is the old version.
Better hurry if you want one of those - probably easiest to find on the second hand market.

I think you missed my point - I don't think they *want* to show it off, so pretended their iPhone wouldn't connect...but it would connect to the BS1 and BS2 when I asked for a demo of those. See what I mean? The dealer doesn't want to promote the M5, but is 'forced' to have one in his showroom.
That is a strange businessman.
Or maybe - as I almost understand - he was more eager to sell you (!) a BS1/2.
Not wanting to promote a certain B&O product - in general - will never be the right way to be a B&O dealer.
The M5 lacks intrigue and any twist in its design?
And then I read that it feels cheap too.
Perhaps it can be the bait to get footfall for a new Beolit 17 or something that's worthy of B&O?

So much negativity about the M5. What do we expect from a product in this price range?
I listened today at my dealer once more to the speaker and all those comments in this thread haven't changed my mind. I really would like to have it for my bathroom after a renovation, or next to my bed for listening to the news at mornings. For this purposes a speaker in this price range would really fit.
But... not yet!
At first it needs a software update for adding TuneIn to the M5. Only then the unit will have value for me...

If it had any intrigue as a design I'd have visited the local B&O shop to see it , as I have with every other product. I don't have a cat that needs a scratching pole or the need for a big kitchen paper dispenser. I suspect Cecile Manz had serious cost constraints. This time I didn't visit the store, no.

I am with you on that, Chris.
And I find it hard to take comments from people, who haven't experienced it, seriously.
Well - maybe I just have to accept that there are people, who have other 'judging-standarts', than I do have.
One shouldn't mistake this for a Bang & Olufsen Sound System - it is a B&O Play product announced as a wireless speaker
Sure it can be part of a B&O multiroom setup - I guess, that you could join-in to a TuneIn sesion, if you wanted.
But not building in TuneIn directly is somewhat peculiar and would probably disqualify it for me too.
My trouble is - I don't need yet another speaker and thus have no plans to buy it.
(If I had, I would not hesitate, though).
It might be the right thing for a lot of people - and is therfore welcomed by me!

Confusing manual... Text coming from the M5 user guide:
A Volume knob Turn and hold the volume knob clockwise to increase volume continuously. Turn and hold the knob counterclockwise to decrease.
B Press During standby, short press to join existing multi-room groups. If no groups are available, the last connected source will initiate (Bluetooth). During audio playback, short press to pause / play. Double- press to switch source.
Very confusing is't it? For what I understand in reading; If there is NO other NL device in use, activated or playing in the home, activating the M5 with a press on top is always first initiating with Bluetooth.

compared to B&O's thermo jugs you'll get two or even three cookie boxes instead
I have purchased a M5 two weeks ago, and i must say it works fairly good. It is not hi-fi, but as an extra nice looking speaker in our dining room it's fine. I am missing full integration with the Beoplay App, so i can use ToneTouch and adjust the sound as it is pretty bassheavy for my taste. I have looked in a few other threads in here, but have not found that anyone has managed to get ToneTouch to work with the M5?

Hiort:So, how do I activate TuneIN from standby and nothing is playing in the linksystem? One press? Can I use timer to start TuneIN on the M5? Is it possible to set in what order the different sources are activated, like on the BS1 and the A6?
One press?
Can I use timer to start TuneIN on the M5?
Is it possible to set in what order the different sources are activated, like on the BS1 and the A6?
I thought it was the last listened source or perhaps bluetooth that starts when activating with one press and in my case this was a Deezer playlist yesterday, however I tried this morning and the last radiostation I have listened to a couple of days ago started. There was no other product playing in the house at the moment.
Still experimenting...

Borrowed one yesterday to test my 50ms delay and multiroom. It worked perfectly, and yes, it is possible to start TuneIn by timer :)

I confirm the TunIn timer start action.
For Android users of the new app, I received a mail from B&O on my question why the queue is always filled with unknown radiostations and loosing my 'Favorite TuneIn list':
We are aware of the bug regarding TuneIn radio in the new Android app. The cause of the problem is a change in behavior - the BeoMusic app basically adds the entire list of favorites to the product play queue, and then start playback of the requested station. This ensures that the product buttons work properly and change to other favorite stations. Our new app is different; it simply plays the requested station, without adding the other favorites in the play queue. This means that the product will default to its standard radio stations if the product buttons are used, and this is the cause of the problem you are observing. Our developers are working to change the new app to implement the old behavior. We expect to address this shortly - an update should be available in about two months.
The above problem is mainly of interest to users who wants to operate the M5 in a Multiroom surrounding, and want to have the M5 controlled by a remote and its numeric buttons.
I noticed also, in Multiroom use of the M5 and powering off the link its better to use first the 'Stop' button and next the red 'Power Off' button on a remote. If following this sequence the M5 goes immediate to its 'sleep' function. Not following this sequence and only pushing the 'Power Off' button is keeping the M5 for a rather long time still activated (two blue lights on).

Are you actually saying that the M5 can be used by a remote ? Beo4 ?

Weebyx: Are you actually saying that the M5 can be used by a remote ? Beo4 ? /Weebyx
No, only on devices operable with a remote... (the pair function for a 'wheelie' remote is removed in the latest M5 SW update)
It means controlling by a remote not directly to the M5 itself but: from the Essence with IR-eye, from Moments Jukebox, from ML devices connected to NL/ML converter, etc....
The M5 is a fully compatible with the Multiroom family.

Aaaah yes.. I borrowed one, to test the Multiroom, and I will probably be buying one later on for the bedroom.
It is just a pitty that none of the new Play products cannot be controlled by Beo4. I need the M5 to wake me up in the morning, but I would like to just reach out in a dark room, and adjust or power off the M5 with the Beo4 in a dark room with closed eyes.
It sucks that I need to get my phone and look at it with sleepy eyes, to adjust the volume or power off :)

I fully understand you. We paired a 'Essence wheelie remote' with the M5 in January at the dealers shop. And that was a very interesting factor especially for me, I wanted to place a second M5 at a not reachable place in the bathroom.
The M5 I bought now was a present for my daughters birthday, and is placed next to my daughters bed, but she has such a powerless hand in wake-up...
In the latest SW update the pair function of this remote was suddenly removed, but perhaps they will return it in another SW update. Looking at the configuration page the remote tab page is now empty...
I presume the Beo4 will never work with the M5, but maybe the Beoremote One BT will one day.

So now it is NOT possible to pair an essence remote any longer ?
Christ.... they really am not into making user friendly stuff anymore. I will still buy the Moment, and probably also an M5, I need to get started with the new stuff, but it is a pity that all the old customers who has been loyal to the brand, and loves the "no looking" control with Beo4, are not supported anymore.
Really don't see why not, other than they cut costs and SW/HW design.
I have just purchased the M5 and the essence remote, but is not able to BT connect the remote with M%.
The M5 works fine, is connected to the WiFi and I am able to connect to its BT with an iPhone - same with the Essence remote, but I am nogt able to connet the Essence Remote with the M5 - does anyone have any instructions??
What I have done is to make sure noone is connected to the Essence Remote and I have set the M5 to BT connect to anyone (i have also tried manual) and then I press on the top of the remote and waits until the small green light flashes, releases my finger and waits for the pair'ing - which never happens????

Welcome to the forum 2m...
Have you read the above threads before posting? As said the possibility to pair an Essence remote is disappeared in the latest SW update for the M5.
Let's hope B&O add this function again in the next update.
Yes, thanks for your quick response, I noticed as soon as I had posted. I am now going back to the beo shop and request them to approach beo and have an answer to what they intend to do - if not this capability is coming back in the next release very soon, I will claim my expenses and return the goods as this was clearly promised to work by beo...

I would not directly point to B&O that they promised it would work, there is no mention of pairing the Essence remote in the manual, faqs, etc. Conclusion: its a nice add-on to have and I found it by coincidence, maybe your shop did also in an earlier SW version.
Rather point to your shop who has no knowledge or was thoroughly informed that it was gone at the date they sold you this system combination. They would better have a test before selling it as a speaker with remote capabilities.
Do not react too quickly. Pairing is now greyed out in the M5 menu but not completely disappeared, so I'm pretty sure it will return in a next update.
Nice toy but with issues:
1 - Does not preserve the Sources In Local List after a restart or a network loss which impacts usage (tap, double tap)
2 - Does not stop red blinking when network is back ( I shut down my WiFi overnight).
3 - Too much bass, can't wait tone adjustment.
EDIT: The Local List choices are lost even without a restart or any other noticeable event, I think I'll return the kit for now, waiting for a mature and tested software

mbolo01:Today's M5 (and A6, Essence and other) update should fix my issues according to BeoCare. I'll update you tomorrow.
I am very happy with my M5, a bit bassy. There is basic EQ settings in the Beosetup app. Haven't played with them yet.I had a major concern: When i tapedp the M5 from standby i would expect it to start again from last soruce. Eg. Tunein. The same behaviour like i get from my A6. But it doens't. When i tap it it goes into bluetooth which i haven't ever used with the M5 and i couldn't find a way to change that.Deep in the beosetup app under sources > sources i found the ability to prioritize and enable / disable sources.I put Tunein on top and now it behaves as expected. When i wake up in the morning i tap it and it starts playing my favourite radiostation through Tunein which is #1 on the priority list.
Latest update fixed my issues, one tap goes now to my first Local List entry and the led stops flashing red when network is back. All in order
Did it also fix the BT connectivity with the Essence remote?
also, what about the bass?
Ok - thanks anyway!
Anyone tried the Essence remote with M5 and the SW update?
Bought two of these for home, not really happy with the sound. They're very bassy but not really in a good way. Apparently a software update is coming to fix this....
mbolo01:Can't tell you about the Essence connectivity and the Tone Control is not included in this update unfortunately
Isn't it possible to adjust basic Treble and Bass through the Beosetup app? Or am mixing it with another product in the app?

Nice to see how the cover is removed....Looking forward to seeing some interesting colour options in the future. I wasn't head-over-heels for the A1 or A2....But my standards were quite high at this price points. My A1 however, is my pride and joy. Can't wait for mine to arrive!

Hello there. I've just joined BeoWorld and it made me smile that people were discussing my channel. I hope you like your new M5. John (B&O Manchester)
About time......
Latest firmware: no bass or treble adjustment like the A6 has.
No remote control connection possible neither essence or remote One BT
The Beoplay App (iOS) has the stand setup (corner, free, wall) which changes minor bass setting , but not as expected.
My dealer told me that bass adjustment should come with one of the next updates.(When????? I need it, the toaster in the kitchen walks like an egyptian)
There is an undocumented feature:
Pressing down and turning left or right the button will change the station / title,so you need not have to use the app.
