I'm wondering if there are others who are frustrated with B&O's poor design of the BeoVision 10 with regard to its IR receiver. Unlike most BeoVisions that have the IR receiver at the TOP of the screen, the BeoVision 10 has the IR receiver at the bottom of the screen. This makes controlling a BV 10 from bed in a bedroom rather awkward. To get a clear aim with the B&O remote, you must somewhat lift the remote high in the air and point it downward. Sadly, B&O didn't even provide the option to connect an external eye as some BeoVisions do.
By BeoVision 10 is located in my bedroom with a Moment using its speakers via an NL/ML Converter. Since I have another BeoVision (located in the living room) as my Video Master connected to the BLGW, I need to the an IR eye connected to the NL/ML Converter anyway in order to transmit LIGHT/CONTROL commands to the BLGW.
I thought I would try a test to see if having the NL/ML Converter IR eye in Link Option 2 would allow me to use THAT IR eye to also control my BeoVision. Sounds like a good idea. Right? The NL/ML Converter manual does not mention this as a use, but I thought I would try it anyway. No luck. It seems that the NL/ML Converter IR eye is really just there to control for speakers connected to the NL/ML Converter -- as indicated in the manual. Such a shame. This would have been a nice feature. I had to set my NL/ML Converter IR option back to Option 4.
I just thought I would share my failed test.

Do you know how to check the IR strength setting on the BV10? I couldn't find anything - even in the service menu. I had always thought the IR strength was just in the remote control setting. I have the same issue with the BeoVision 10 with all of my remotes. The edge of the bed is definitely an obstruction to the IR signal.

Try a factory reset.
Even if that means setting it all up again....

That's not happening. That was not a very constructive suggestion.
kallasr:I had an issue before: max. volume was 60, so too low in some cases. Factory reset helped to solve it. Ralf PS: I was trying to help, but will stop here. Your comment was not very friendly....not used to it in this forum. Times are changing, I guess.

I do appreciate your offer to help and perhaps my response was rather curt. It's just that suggesting a complete factory reset is reckless and should be used just as a last resort. In your situation, you actually did not need to do a factory reset. In the service menu, you could have easily adjusted the maximum volume. There is no such setting in the service menu with regard to the IR reception strength. Unless someone can prove to me otherwise, the adjustment for IR strength is only done in the transmitting remote. My various remotes all have full battery charges and there truly is a substantial obstacle between the remote and were the BeoVision's remote sensor is located: a substantial bed frame and the entire length of the thick mattress.
The purpose of my post was to point out the design flaw of the BeoVision 10 as compared to other BeoVisions and to explore the possibility of using the NL/ML Converter set as A.Master to control the V.Master when the NL/ML Converter is set to Option 2. It's true that the manual clearly indicates that the IR sensor for the NL/ML Converter is intended for use when the Converter has its own speakers connected to it. I was just hoping that the Link settings would be consistent with how the Link settings work with ML products. The purpose for the thread was just to point this out to other B&O users who might be curious.
elephant:Just some work around suggestions - I hope I am not frustrating you ! It’s my problem solver trait :) I accept your design criticism especially as “smaller” TVs are likely to end up in bedrooms ! I always liked the V1’s ceiling suspension for the reason the bedrooms can be more cluttered than most rooms. And I agree it is frustrating when what seems logical (the nl/ml) falters ... if you had other spare multi-room devices with IR eyes they might help picking up and relaying the commands. However have you tried reflecting the ir signal off a strategically placed mirror ?

Like a mirror on the ceiling? That sounds like QUITE the bachelor pad!
