My dealer has said that the Halo at launch will just have the features of an Essence Remote at launch but that it will become a full-featured remote in coming months....

Now, where have we heard this before of promising all and then failing to deliver? Please prove me wrong. Don’t f*** up the software B&O (again).

[[Sigh.  I just clicked "mark as not answer" on the post above, to which I was about to reply, because some lamer marked it as "The Answer" by mistake.  (Crowds out the first page of responses, and not "The" anyway.)  But now the post is completely gone!!!  Sorry to whoever.  Can mods resurrect?  Software, love/hate...]]

This seems consistent with the initial manual. The true test for me will be if it can connect to an NL/ML Converter via NL and offer access of the mapped sources.

Going through the manual it looks that it will do more than the essence control.

For the price difference I would expect much more than what is described in the manual.

Maybe one more thing to admire.....when other people have bought it.

I am still waiting to see the benefit of this device.

Controlling multiple speakers in a much more intuitive way than with a BROne (and impossible with an Essence remote) is enough extra functionality for me! I want one...

I agree.

When my dealer tells me that the Halo will have limited functions initially so as to manage my expectations, I trust his wisdom. That being said, I do see that there will be a need for improved functionality for this product to succeed. At its price point it's not the easy add-on sale that an Essence wall remote is.

Beozip-

Are you able to configure the Halo now, or must we wait for the B&O app to be updated for its support?

.... and no Bang & Olufsen logo looks like from FCC side. Only a small B&O logo Sad

To the technical options I can not say because for me its only a nice must have and looks very cool.

The wheel has a very fine grid and makes a click click as by a cracksman to open the vault Big Smile

If I could only listen to ‘multiple speakers’.
I can’t.....but maybe that is just me!

So don’t worry - I might be convinceable ;-)

This applies perfectly to my situation. In my kitchen, I need to be able to control the BeoSound 1 and the kitchen TV speakers in the kitchen as well as controlling the BeoLab 3 speakers in the dinning room and the TV speakers in the living room. With my open loft floor plan, all of these speakers can be heard in the kitchen. Currently, I must keep switching modes on the BeoRemote One.

My dealer advised that he'll be receiving it today and will be shipping it to me as soon as he receives it. So I should receive mine by early next week. Otherwise, I could drive two hours to pick it up. With my Porsche, I could certainly make that drive faster. Hmmm. Tempting.

I see what you mean (and it is probably also the purpose of the device).

As I wrote - maybe that is just me, my head would spin, if I had to contol and listen to all that.

P.S. for similar - occasional - controlling I use the Bang & Olufsen app on my dedicated iPad Mini’s (3 of them).

Looking forward to learn, if the device will show any infos about the currently playing track, playlist, station...

Driving faster probably won’t help you - as long as app hasn’t been updated (for it), it might be difficult to get it going.

Honestly Im a bit surprised it isnt more than it is. I get that it is a replacement for the essence remote so it should perhaps be very simple. BUT after using the B&O app a bit on my iPad I realize that it is both beautiful and very user flexible and friendly.

From the app you have a lot of possibilities and can change very many settings that might make a big difference in everyday situations. Especially if you have devices that is configurable and customizeable in the app.

I would rather see a small touch screen with the same interface because it does so much and very well. Im pretty curious about designing a nice pod of wood/metal and put a small android tablet in it (or an iPad mini) just to be able to use the system as I prefer.

Or just stick with having my regular iPad and iPhone for controls. Its a device I use anyway and clutter is not my thing, the less things the better.

But I will give the halo a try but for 900 usd it seems pretty expensive for what it seemingly is.

In all the "real life" pictures posted so far, I find the stripped part below the screen always looks dusty, used and cheap, absolutely not B&O to me.

Pictures don’t do it justice sometimes. Don’t judge before you had it your hands (like I did yesterday).

To my surprise it was a bit smaller than expected, also because of the pictures where you couldn’t compare as there wasn’t something next to it to compare

The outer rings rotates like the Essence remote.
It big and small enough to take it with wherever you want to sit. With the tablecharger there isn’t ant hassle with cables.

I see this has potential for me?

Using the BR1 with the BL90s and feeding-in 3rd party audio sources is a dog and a faff to switch product modes. Volume is clunky too

Using the Essence Remote with the BL90 Beolink IR Eye is also problematic because I think the IR function on the Essence is pretty weak (not like the BEO4)

Using the BeoApp means flicking between Auralics music selection App and the Beo App for frequent volume control.

If this controls the BL90 volume smoothly via IP control, I am probably an early adapter.

If this pulls everything together BL90, 3rd Party Sources, BV and NL dotted around the hose....that will be great.

I hope the lessons of BEO5 and BEO6 have been learnt (including price)

Yes, but do you really think/hope that this tiny little display can replace the ‘feeding 3rd party audio sources’ (think: the mighty ui of Roon, or even the ui of Spotify)?

This seems more to me to be a playlist-starter/radiostation-starter, where you can pause/play include/exclude your devices in a simple way and - of course - control the volume.

Not quite the way I listen to music,

If you’d still have to interact with some 3rd party app, would this remote still be of help?

MM how you listen to music is your problem.

The way I listen (My problem) is to use the Auralic App for Track selection. Native. Cant expect B&O to control that directly and it works.

The problem I have is that there is no real Remote solution (that I am aware of) that can control the BL90s other than a second App.

This, I believe is a midway solution somewhere between Essence and using an iPad in terms of volume and probably (later) source selection

I'm about to have the same issue (though with BL50s and 3rd party source, not 90s)

I'm not sure the Halo will offer much though - perhaps volume control but what else? Nothing springs to mind.

And that makes it a very expensive volume controller no?

The Auralic app offers nothing by way of volume control? (obviously I dont which Auralic unit you have and what outputs it has etc)

There is something about the look that reminds me of the early Beomasters and Beolits.

The Bronze colour looks like wood and the front cover looks like frets over a speaker.

Does anyone understand exactly how the table version works from a mains cable power perspective?

Does it always require the USB cable connection for power? Or does the Halo contain a battery that is charged by the table stand but can be removed and moved around separate from the stand for wireless use until it needs to be docked again for charging, a a Beosound 1 with charging stand?

If that were the case, functionality value aside as everyone has been discussing here, practically speaking it would be much more useful. Who wants it to be tethered to a cord the entire time and require a cable running over the coffee table it will sit on? Blech!

Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote

Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA

The internal pictures in the FCC filing show that the Halo has a rechargeable battery.

This is exactly what I have dreamed of!

It is a WIFI product enabling access to playlists, favorite artist, etc. at Deezer and other build-in streaming services in Beoplay/Beosound products. So, kind of same functions as the B&O App, except the setup section of the B&O App.

I am ready to order a table and wall version. Smile

I would wish you are right - that would be grreat.

But I am still a bit sceptic how that app should fit in to/be possible on that tiny display.

Guess I’d better wait with more posts untill I have seen it in real action.

Since we still haven't seen any photos with fully-configured Halos, I'm suspecting that we must indeed wait for the app to be updated. Yet, it would seem that there should be a way to use an internet browser to get into the configuration screen as we can for other NL products.

Trying not to sound negative but for $900 and the limited functionality described below, I’m struggling to see the point over an iPad or tablet +/- Essence remote.

100% agree. I pretty much always have my phone or tablet nearby if I am home, so I wouldn’t see the need for more (expensive) STUFF to clutter my home, even if it is as beautiful as the Halo. But some people feel otherwise and that’s great. It’s exciting that well-designed, new products continue to be released.
