Any tips or tricks, and sources for materials? I have 2 10" woofers from MS150 that need to be reconed.
Thanks in advance.
You mean refoamed? Reconing means you're changing the entire cone which I doubt.
Talking personally, I have a pair of REVOX Plenum B which were refoamed (foam surrounds changed) and the surrounds are way too stiff now as the bass is completely gone.
So be careful at selecting your new surrounds. I heard only good things about Dr Kurt Muller surrounds.
In case you ask, use foam is foam was, don't use rubber unless you have no other choice.
I refoamed the 8" mids, and I redid one of the 10" woofers with foam supplied by a seller in the Netherlands. The other 10" woofer has a severely warped paper cone. Refoaming it will not work unless I replace the cone. And if I replace one, I want to replace both so they sound the same.
So I have found someone who is going to take a crack at putting new cones and spiders on the 10" woofers. There is a local place here in Salt Lake City that does recones, and they said they would give it a go. So. Dropped them off, I supplied new foam surrounds from goodhifi off ebay (his 8" foams fit the 8" drivers perfectly). So... fingers crossed. I'll update when I get them back. Hopefully they are like new. and I can put the originals back in the cabinets.
Then I'll have 2 10" peerless drivers that will need a home. I guess I'll have to build a big sub woofer box for them and get another amp. hehe.
