I am going to hold fire on this update. I have no desire to add to my issues with BL50. Why do these companies think it acceptable to use their customers as their testing/proving ground? Personally speaking, being treated like a lab rat just makes me want to abandon the brand?

I hope you get it soon. I am curious to hear your opinions of it. It is probably my imagination along with the fact I have not been listening to the 50s as much during the summer, but to my ears, I hear a significant improvement in sound. I would not have thought that possible so it must be my imagination?

It may be true, or i might be imagining the same thing. i also retuned them so am not 100%, but they do sound better (i think)Stick out tongue

Why don’t you just go to B&O with your questions instead of blasting the brand here? It feels like you hate the brand so I don’t understand why you even bought your speakers. Either your speakers are faulty or something else is wrong because nobody is having the issues you are experiencing and even though many of us have spent hours on trying to assist you still just seem hateful.

I still haven’t received any updates. My speakers are stuck on the old software still. Seems B&O themselves doesn’t know when they release firmware.

It seems that 3.0 sw for BL 50 is out now. Can you try to see if you have got the new update?

So I finally sent B&O an email and received a message with a linked zip file of 3.0.0.444 but the file didn’t exist. Anyway, today I found after searching for update via the app (website) that the speakers could download on their own 3.0.0.527.

Either they added me to a list of beta testers or they released it for me now. Who knows.

Scary system as they don’t show any information about what it does or why. I find that extremely stupid and plain rude as it makes it impossible for the client/user to know what has been improved or fixed and adapt to it. I really think this is a really stupid business decision. If B&O reads this - TAKE NOTICE, please.

Anyways. Now my speakers are blinking green and doing it’s thing. Will be nice to see how it goes.

Update done and they sound like new speakers. Maybe placebo, maybe not.

Hi Michael,

I also got the software 3.0.0.527 and have also tried other variations of the 3.0 software. My feeling is that the BASS is much less with this new software tnan the old 2.3.4.7045. What is your opinion about the Bass response?

I dont feel that the sound quality is improving. I have rolled back to 2.3.4.7045

Best regards

Hi Michael and Raslaw,

When I updated my BL50 a couple of weeks ago with software 3.0.0.444 I found out the following strange software behaviour:

1. After update, the sound was almost exactly as with the old software 2.3.4.7045

2. I went to the settings menu (WEB-UI) for the Beolab 50 and checked all settings there. I found out that all "tick in the box" for ARC-calibrations was "un-ticked". But the sound in the speakers was AS the ARC calibrations was "ticked in the box" for every presets. I then "re-ticked" the ARC-calibrations for every presets that I have and then the strange behavior occur: THE BASS RESPONE IS ALMOST GONE.

3. I tried after this to make a total reset of the speakers and make new ARC-calibrations but still the BASS RESPONSE was very weak and NOT as it was with the old software 2.3.4.7045.

Therfore I can not understand in what way You experience a better sound quality with the speakers. Have you checked if the "ARC-boxes" in the settings-menu are ticked or un-ticked in the BL50 setting menu? If they are ticked in the box, try to un-tick the box and then tick it again to see IF you have the same soundstage as before.

Best Regards

Maybe you encountered a bug that was specific for you in particular? I am also not on the same firmware as you and I can tell you that I only have more bass than before. I also have not yet done microphone calibration but I’m going to do so as soon as I get a microphone and when I have settled on placement of the speakers.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your response.

Can You please check in the BL50 settings menu IF the tick in the box for ARC-calibrations on your presets is still there or not.

My dissapeard after the software update. And when I "re-ticked" the ARC-calibrations on each preset again then the soundquality (especially the BASS response) went down.

I can not since as I said I have not yet done calibrations. My friend though has and his worked well and he also experienced better sound.

However I believe new calibrations should be made nonetheless as it seems to be a big upgrade. I will request a release note from B&O.

Have you talked with B&O and what responses have they given you about the issues you experience?

Upon updating the speakers, the sound improvement was immediate and very noticeable. The bass is still the same as it was before as are all presets. I don’t know how to describe the improvement other than to to say when I upgraded from 20s to 50s there was obviously a huge improvement in sound. The improvement after the software update was similar. I was very much surprised when I heard them after the update. I can try to look at the boxes you mention, but how do I do that?

Razlaw:

Upon updating the speakers, the sound improvement was immediate and very noticeable. The bass is still the same as it was before as are all presets. I don’t know how to describe the improvement other than to to say when I upgraded from 20s to 50s there was obviously a huge improvement in sound. The improvement after the software update was similar. I was very much surprised when I heard them after the update. I can try to look at the boxes you mention, but how do I do that? Beolab 50s Beolab 9s Beolab 12-3s Beolab 1s Beolab 6000s 2 pairs Beolab 4000s Beovision 7-55 Beovision 10-40 Beoplay V1 32 inch Beovision Avant 32 inch Beosound 1 (CD player) Beosound 3000 Beosound 5 Core Essence MKII Beoplay M5

Just to clarify, you also updated today to .527? Or you also found an instant sound difference with the firmware you’ve had a few weeks now?

I like the explanation of 20-50 and feel about the same. Very weird. But also, I felt my 50 sounded very good when I got them and that they somehow lost something after a few days of setting settings. Maybe it was a bug that caused worse than expected sound quality (still good though) and the new firmware perhaps remedies this. Just a thought and nothing more.

Hi Raslaw,

What I mean is when you connect an ARC calibration to a preset. If you go into the settings menu for BL 50 and choose one of your presets, click on that preset and click after that on "room calibration". Now you will see all of the ARC calibrations you have made and one of them  should have  a "tick in the box".

what happend for me is that I lost all tick in the box for every presets Arc calibration when I made the sw update. When I after update tticked the right Arc calibration to my different presets I found the bass response dissapear alot.

Interesting.

And I believe then what I said before, that Martin experienced a bug or need a new calibration. Maybe also that the microphone measurements mean that bass was to strong in his house and correctly adjust for it meaning less bass? Hard to say but I would probably do a reset and make new measurements after such a big update as it seemingly is.

I checked....yes the correct ARC has a tick in the box still. Also, all presets are performing and sounding as they should following the update.

Both my Lab 90s and Lab 50s are still on version 2.3.4.7045 and not showing an update as available. Is there some kind of special trick to get this new software? Do you specifically have to request it, and if so, from whom?

3.0.0.257 just showed up one day on my 50s which is when I started this thread. I contacted customer support earlier today through the app to ask about 3.0.0.527.

I might try the same. Which email address did you use, or was this via Facebook?

I used the feature for support inquiries via their webpage support side. I think that’s the best way, but it is probably this address as I get the replies from it support@bang-olufsen.zendesk.com

Hi Michael and Raslaw,

I have now downloaded and installed sw 3.0.0.527. According to my dealer this is an officiel release and not a Beta sw. Everything works as it should after the update BUT I can not hear that sound quality should be better. It just sounds as it did before. I have very sensitive ears and are used to and skilled to hear very small differences in sound quality. But I can not hear any change in sound image.

What exactly do you guys feel is the difference in sound image between this new software and the old one?

Best Regards
Martin

I wonder how he knows as no data is available but seems probably true as this is the one I also got. Apparently first of everyone :). I also have perfect hearing with almost absolutely pitch so for me the difference was immediately noticeable but as I wrote it is easy to see placebo effects. The sound I just felt was more dynamic with more punch and enhanced general profile. I believe they may have decided to tune them differently. But might be wrong but we are three people who noticed a big difference and you are the only one that did not:).
