Hi Politiician, Have you tried to have wired ethernet to BL50 when you update the speakers?

Is it sw 3.0.0.0616 you are trying to download?

Best regards

Martin

Hi Martin

My Lab 90s have always been wired to the router and my Lab 50s have always been wireless – the latter are quite a long way from the router. They've never given any trouble before, and have downloaded previous software updates without issue, but in the last few weeks they've given an error message when attempting to check for new software.

In any case, it makes sense to have the latest software on hand, just in case I ever need to reload it.

Hi Politician,

I recommend you to make a total factory reset for the BL 50. I suspect something in the sw in your speakers are "'hanhg-up".

 Best Regards

Martin

I'll certainly give that some thought, Martin. It would mean recalibrating them with the microphone, however. On that basis, I may simply try to upload the new software using USB sticks.

Hi Politician,

Can you confirm that it is sw 3.0.0.0616 for BL50/90 that you are trying to download?

the reason I ask this if  that if this sw is an official release or not. Do you know that? Maybe it is still an beta release? If it is a Beta then  you should consider not to install it.

Hi Martin

Yes, it's 3.0.0.0616 that we're talking about – this isn't beta software, is it?

I use to like the beolab 50. Somehow they messed up the software. The bass is there and the punch is better. But the treble sound really harsh. With the latest sw.

Beovision 7-55 MK1 red, Beolab 10 red. Beolab 50, all black. Beolab 17 broken ice. Beolab transmitter. Apple tv4 and apple express 2.

This is also what I'd noticed. Has anyone tried contacting Geoff Martin and see what is actually in this update?

hi, i have not noticed any fault with treble. I have made a factory reset just right after the update to .616 just to make sure the speakers will work properly. I have not found any fault with the treble (have tried both narrow andwide beam).I suggest you guys who find problems after latest update to make a factory reset of the speakers,.

Hi Esax,

What exactly do you experience as problem with the new .616 software?

If you describe more in detail I can check my speakers tonight.

Best regards

When new the treble sounded harsh. And that’s normal with highend speakers. It take sometime to soften them up.

The speakers after the latest sw are harsh and more revealing. Some tracks sounds good but others not so good. But still harsh with optical input. Not so with pl. They have a bigger difference between pl and optical. Pl is good as they where.

I’m not a audiophile and would like all my music to sound good. I want the best forgiving speakers and not revealing. And the beolab 50 use to be that.

I only use mine over powerlink but tried to identify harsh tweeter but can’t. They sound perfect too me but as you say it might be limited to other inputs. Maybe your source is the issue?

Listen to Keith don’t go with Nils Lofgren and Fade by Sophie Zelmani. They are very different songs but the details and cripsness of the quick guitar on Nils song is represented very well and almost as the speakers play along.

And Sophie’s voice is perfectly rounded and the subtle guitar is hidden in the corner but refined.

But maybe I am wrong. I had a migraine today so my ears are a bit off. And then corona on top of that :).

Might be to low wolume. It’s worse at higher. I play music at 60-80, sometimes flat out.

I would probably never play at 80, but around 50-60 no issues for me. Placebo?

You need some volume to get the sound image with airiness and dynamics.

I have now updated the software on my Lab 50s to 3.0.0.16, so they match my Lab 90s. The 50s can now connect wirelessly to the server to check for future updates, so this was clearly a software issue.

Hi Politician,

It could be a sw issue OR just a matter that could be resolve if you made a factory reset of the speakers. But the important thing is that yor 50s work as they should. What du you think about sound quality? I am very pleased now and think that the sound is much sharper and chriper than wit the old 2.3.4.7045 software. The bass is also very good and balanced😄

Hard to comment on the sound quality of the 50s as I use them as rears – hence they never play by themselves. I didn't notice any change in sound quality, either positive or negative, when I updated my Lab 90s.
