Martin:
I have now downloaded and installed sw 3.0.0.527. According to my dealer this is an officiel release and not a Beta sw.

That's curious, as I emailed B&O Support and they told me exactly the opposite:

"Thank you for reaching out to Bang & Olufsen Support regarding your BeoLab 90 and Beolab 50.

We are glad to assist you to update your products to the latest software but after checking our system, it seems that your products are already updated to the latest software.

1 - Beolab 90: V2.3.4.7045 which is the latest market release.
2 - Beolab 50: V2.3.4.7045 which is also the latest market release."

Try contacting them through the app. I submitted an inquiry about 527 through the app’s support/contact feature. The app indicated that it was collecting data and then submitted the request. I quickly received a response from B and O that they were checking in to it. This morning the app showed an update as available. I presume it is 527.

Edit.....update done....it was 527.

Hi Raslaw,

When You have had time to check your new update (527), can you see if you experience any differences vs your "old" software (257).

Best Regards

I emailed Support back at B&O, asking whether v3.0.x is beta software and got the following rather vague response:

"Thank you for your reply.

It could potentially be a beta firmware yes. The reasons for them having access to it could be varied from beta testing to needing a fix the firmware in question provides and accepting the potential bugs."

Wonder whether @Geoff Martin could throw any light on the situation?

Thanks for that. It’s a bit humorous but it is also the company I have gotten to know through the years. We shall not forget it is a small company doing very exquisite technology. And they are danish :).

Initially I am not seeing anything different with one possible exception. With .257 if everything was off and I activated the 50s using the app, still with no source turned on, they would make a clicking sound a couple times. Now activating them from the app makes no sound until a different listening preset is selected.

Was there something in particular you were seeing or hearing?

Hi Raslaw,

I think the big "new" thing is that the BL50 with this new software is always connected to ethernet even when they are in "deep standby". Before we have to "wake up" the speakers but now they are awake with Ethernet all the time.

I will in this weekend try to listen more to music and see IF I can hear a better sound quality than before. I have not had so much time since I did the upgrade to listen at music and compare the sound quality with the old softwarel.

Best Regards

Martin

I think my speakers still “sleep” when not actively in use but I think they sooner go into “sleep” after turning off as I hear more clicks than before when I turn my tv off.

Haven’t yet tried accessing them when they are not in use but before they would click and awaken. I believe they still do but not sure. And as before WiFi seems always to be on, which is really annoying me. As I don’t use it :). Bad software design.

Sorry michael. You don't control this thread.

Updated and...... disaster!

Where do we go from here? I actually don't know.

All day at the dealer with suggestions but no results.

Did  I really buy into 1/2 my retired life trying to get a pair of speakers to do as they said on the tin?

They are now unplugged. I cannot listen to them, My A2 sounds better!

What is known as a Clusterf@@k!

But at least it ownly cost 26,000 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got my 50s arriving for installation in a few weeks.

Certainly hoping that I dont have to report back with any similar or major issues.

Beofile7, why don’t you return them? Why hasn’t your dealer come by yet to fix them? Surely they are still in warranty.

I know all about the issues as i had them all and i’ve had them since launch(that’s literally the reason my podcast startedStick out tongue). But even mine are solid now and have been for a long time. You can still email me if you want help, mikipedi4@gmail.com

Hi Michael,

I also got the software 3.0.0.527 and have also tried other variations of the 3.0 software. My feeling is that the BASS is much less with this new software tnan the old 2.3.4.7045. What is your opinion about the Bass response?

I dont feel that the sound quality is improving. I have rolled back to 2.3.4.7045

Best regards

Martin

Hi Esax,

Have You experienced the same as me with much lower BASS-response with the new software 3.0.0.0527?

Have experienced other problems than the "BASS" problem?

I just want to say I experience more bass. I have turned it down from two plus to zero in my beovision. My friends who listened to them both yesterday and the day before also like the sound. I guess maybe it’s a new calibration that would be helpful your you people who experience a lack of bass perhaps?

For me they sound good now anyway. Sorry to see not everyone has the same experience. But I’m hoping that it will be resolved.

I’m going to get a microphone soon so I can start doing calibrations for my house.

My guess:

There are quite a few beolab 50 for sale. I would think that many have complained that it is not possible to use them without neighbors being disturbed. It feels like B&O has changed the base due to that.

The sound also changed in my setup - to less bass. A bit surprising - did Geoff get new ears? Unsure

I've been listening to them for a while. The punch is gone and also the sub bass.

Maybe my neighbours like them, I don’t.

Have any of you retuned them with the mic?

I lost my setting pre sw upgrade, then upgraded sw and then re tuned them and they sound bloody fantastic. Even more so than before and the punch is still there, so maybe it’s the “old” tuning file with the new sw that makes it sound extra different? Just a thought.

Mikipidia:

Have any of you retuned them with the mic?

I have not. The sound is so much improved from the update I have seen no need to, although I am a bit curious if I would notice a difference so I may do it.

Have tried - find I have to use the ‘BL5 sound design’ to get sufficient bass. May have to try a few more times.

Hi,

Directly after the sw update to 3.0.0.0527 I also noticed at least the same sound quality as with the old software. I have read somewhere that you should factoryreset the speakers after every sw update and I did that. This was an mistake.

After the factory reset all the bass respons was gone. I have tried to fiddle arround in the Bl 50 webUI and changed latency mode from Auto to Low. And with this change the nice sound quality with good bass come back again. It shoud be the opposite, low should sound worse than high latency.

B&O have done something very wrong with the new software especially with the latency setup. If I change from Low to High all bass dissapear.

With the old sw I always had Auto or High latency when listening to music. Now I have it on Low and the sound is pretty good. Very strange.

So DONT make factory reset on the speakers with this new sw because then the Bass response will dissapear in Wide beam on high/auto latency when listening to music.

Best regards

Martin

Never mind spoke to soon, have very little bass now too. Had to do something electric so took the power off and now i can tell the difference. I’ll try resetting them and report back, the difference with low and high/auto is huge🤷🏼‍♂️

Had to edit low/ high/auto, sorryAngry

I guess I am lucky. Mine are fine. Listening to some classical music just now with some bass tones from the strings. The bass was too much, could feel it in my chair. Changed from BL5 to narrow mode. That toned it down but still feel the bass. Have listened to some more bass heavy pieces, other than classical, bass is great as is the rest of the sound.

Found where it is, there is an issue with beam control and room compensation and I’ve let them know. The issue is that as soon as you have any mic measurement set and you set the beam control to “wide” it kills all the bass. All my modes have different measurements and as soon as I change the beam from narrow to wide, the bass is gone.

So for now a quick fix is to set all your presets to narrow beam.

It has nothing to do with latency as we’ve tried it all different ways and as long as the beam is set to narrow it’s all fine and sounds like it’s supposed to sound. I’ve let all the people i could know 🤞

Hi,

I order to get the Bass response back you can also have the speakers in Wide beam and change the latency from Auto/high to Low when listening to music. I found out that this latency change will give you back the nice total sound quality with very good bass response in wide beam.

Mikipedia is right about that only wide beam is affected but until a sw correction is coming just change the latency to low and everything works as it should when listening to a music source.

I don’t know about the rest of your setup martin, but if you have other speakers around with the latency set to low, are they still in sync with the rest? For me they are not, so that’s why i chose to just set the beam to narrow.

Hi Mikipedia,

I have a special preset for just music in 2.0 setup. It is this preset that I have changed latency from high to low. Then I have other preset for 5.0 setup and this preset is still at auto latency just to get syncronization between all 5 channels. The interesting thing is that when I look at something on tv and using "auto" on the latecy and wide beam then all bass is there. It is just when using audiomode on the Tv and auto/high latency combined with wide beam where the bass has dissapeared.
