What main / front speakers are you using, and what are the speakers connected to?

If you’re using a Beosystem 3 or 4, or equivalent BeoVision, and your main speakers are BeoLab 5 or better, the Beosystem / BeoVision will switch the bass sound from the BeoLab 2 to the bigger, more capable speakers, leaving the BL2 mute.

Hi Stuart,

The BL20s are definitely more capable of delivering low bass than the BL2, and the Eclipse sound center almost certainly recognises that. The feature is called Bass Management. It sends low bass to the speaker(s) most capable of delivering it, even if this means removing all sound from a sub.

The technical sound guide for your television should mention this somewhere. It used to include a matrix showing which loudspeakers would cause the BL2 or BL11 to be muted. If I can find it, I’ll paste a link.

Hi Stuart,

Here is the link to the current technical sound guide for the Eclipse:

https://bangolufsenassistentgohe.blob.core.windows.net/manuals/TELEVISIONS/TECHNICAL_SOUND_GUIDE/technical_sound_guide_televisions_2004.pdf

Whilst it no longer includes the matrix, it describes Bass Management in section 3.3.6.

Hi Stuart,

According to the matrix in the TSG version from Sep2014, bass management will NOT remove bass from a BL2 and add it to BL20s or BL9s:

https://bangolufsenassistentgohe.blob.core.windows.net/manuals/TELEVISIONS/BEOVISION_HORIZON/Technical-Sound-Guide-1409.pdf

Now, this matrix was removed from later versions of the TSG, so I can’t be sure of the current logic, but it’s possible that your BL2 should work.

If the BL2 plays a test tone when you’re setting the speaker levels, then maybe you just need to add it to the speaker groups that you use.

You should easily be able to hear what happens, when toggling bas management on/off.

See the instructions in the guide, that you have linked to under the section:

Setup: Sound: Sound Modes: PRESETNAME: Bass Management

Personally I’d remove (and maybe sell) the BL2, if I had the 20’s as fronts.

However - if you want to keep it - you could experiment a bit with the placement of the BL2 (move it to the back of the room) in order to control the bas better/avoid room modes.

For this you’d of course have to toggle bas management off.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Like i said in your other thread:

Go to the speaker preset menu where you can set the roles of your speakers and set the bl2 to on as subwoofer. It’s mostlikely not switched on in the preset you’re using(start up)

Or/and the bass is set to be redirected to other spearkers connected to the Eclipse.

Note: the Energy Save Settings can also switch speakers of.
