B&O and wireless....always makes me feel uneasy. Had constant issues with the A6 and now with H95 Bluetooth it's impossible to have connection with several devices without having to re-pair at least one device every time.
The design of the BL28 does not really appeal to me from pictures. The base looks clunky, could have been designed by a trainee.
Thank you for your reviews on the real speaker! :-)How's the control dial? Does it "stick out" enough to be used ergonomically and comfortable like the Essence remote wheel or the (new) Beosound 1 or is it just a workaround? Is DLNA only missing in the technical data list or is DLNA absent on the new Mozart platform?

On the other side.....when the lamellas are closed (speaker in standby) the cat can not use the front cover as a scratching post ;-))

A lot of these issues lie in the wifi setup in the house or from neughbours - the issues with the wireless functions in the product themselves have become less lately.
Also I am pretty sure that you can hardwire these speakers to the network - we will learn more about this at launch I guess.
By the way.....I thought of an ‘upgrade’ to the BL6000 rather than to the BL8000/18 designwise, as I saw them in real life.
Millemissen: I guess you are right on the DLNA support....my fault. However, that might change - technologywise it should be possible.......if not it sure is a drawback with your listening habits.NL coming.....I would not agree, that you read that ‘ages ago’. ‘ages ago’ they did not mention anything about NL.Now they officially have announced it for Q3 - and I see no reason not to believe that. I could easily reach the top of the 28 for controlling - and where else should they have put control elements, if they have to be there?I guess anyone with younger kids will be happy that they are somewhat out of reach. Personally I would connect these to my BV (if I had them). The integration of music functions is - again to me - secondary. However, this opens up possibilities for other users with other habits/wishes.....so I have no problem with them being there. In general I expect that the integration of the new Mozart platform will enable new functions, that we haven’t seen before. DLNA has been dropped from the new products connectivity list since the Balance is out, so in march last year. Agree that it could be technically possible and B&O have experience on this front, but I really think that it is no longer on their roadmap.
In April 2020 a note from B&O product management circulated in this forum stating that improved NL + "touch to join" was on the roadmap, glad to hear that it is now officially announced for Q3 2021, I have not seen this information personally. From a technology timeline perspective I call hat "ages ago", the time for B&O to launch 3 different connected speakers.
BL 28 height is between 1,37 H and 1,40 H, which means that to operate the control panel easily one must be higher than 1,60m which I think excludes a lot of potential customers worldwide, adults included, and I'm not talking here about people with illness affecting their size.
The integration of music service is secondary to you, like it is for me on such type speakers, I would personally not take the risk of spending so much money in such very good speakers that have "secondary" features putting the whole speakers at risk of failing completely. If the BL 28 had a version without control panel and music services, such BL 50 or 90, I would definitively have a closer look.
You may be right about the Mozart platform, but I'll wait for it to be mature enough before considering it, my Moment experience talking here, for now they are just bringing less to me. In the meantime I'll enjoy my pre-Balance products.
BS Moment, BS Core, BG 4002, BC 4500, BS1, BL18, BL19, BL8000 + RCV1, A6, M5, M3, A1, P6 (tks Botty), H5, TR1

I would not call that ‘sticking out’ - the controls are flat on top of the speaker/s.
Functionality is similar to what you see on the Emerge, the Balance.
There is no physical wheel (like on the Essence Remote, BS1/2) - you use the ‘wheel’ in the surface of the top.
Unless you are a very small person, they are fine - I guess most people will use the Beoremote or the app anyway.
I am looking forward to demonstrations at launch - I had too little time to notice all the details ;-(
It seems that there is no DLNA support on the Mozart platform as of now. Either that is a decision on purpose (used by too few people they would say) or something that will come in an update. If people keep on asking for it, it may be more likely to happen.

When is the launch?
How is the BL28 compared to a BL18/BL2 setup? How is the bass?
I’m looking forward to see and hear them
Beomanden
Official premiere is on April 29th, i.e. in just a few days.
I experienced them yesterday at my dealer’s. They look good, much better than on pictures. They also have the wide/narrow mode like the Beolab 50s and sound pretty good.
They replace Beolab 20, as expected given the price.
Current: Beovision Eclipse 65" v1 - Beolab 50 - Beolab 28 - 2 x BS2 (GVA) - 1 x BS1 (GVA) - Beoremote Halo - H9i
Past:
Beovision MX4000 - Beovision 3-32 - Beovision 7-55
Beosound 9000 - Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5
Beolab 6000 - Beolab 8000 - Beolab 5 - Beolab 3 - Beolab 17
Perfect, I think that the speakers looks very promising. How do you think the bass is compared to BL2?

I dont need to hear it. My response was crafted as not to be so prejudice.
1. I questioned the Marketability of these loudspeakers (how profitable they will be for B&O)
2. I stated that the design language is not to my taste - which has nothing to do with how they sound
3. I stated that Im sure they have a typical B&O sound signature.
I think these are all fair comments that can be presented without seeing or hearing them in person.

DLNA music works fine on my M3 and on my Essence 2nd gen - the 1st gen definitely is not what I would call a ‘new product’!
Millemissen:the 1st gen definitely is not what I would call a ‘new product’!
I was emphasizing that B&O is dropping this functionality in an existing product and not only in new products.
The mk1 was DLNA capable at its launch (and still is, but not with the B&O app).

Thanks Millemissen for clarification on the "volume dial" and Carolpa for the DLNA hint.
Carolpa:So your point is the B&o app doesn't controll the Essence mkI anymore?Even if chosen the rigth Essence in the app?
CB:Otherwise, you get "this content can't be played back with Deezer" error message (yes, Deezer - nothing to do with DLNA ?!?)
but in the B&o app the "Enable Beolink" was checked?
Carolpa:in the B&o app the "Enable Beolink" was checked?
CB:The mk1 can't join, so you don't even have that setting
CB:But, surprisingly, the diagnostic tool says that Beolink is available?!?
Carolpa:You're sure? It is NOT a product dependable setting in the app (Settings, Beolink, Enable Beolink ).
I've been listening to the new BL28s on my dealer's cinema room today. They sound extremely well. I have a pair of BL18s at home with my Eclipse and the new 28s are clearly above the 18s in performance. We listened to a pair of 20s too and although bass was quite similar, the midrange and treble suited my taste way better on the newest speakers.
Aesthetics are, as already mentioned, much better in real life than in the AR app. Size is a bit taller than the 18s, but footprint is definitely larger, not just in terms of figures but as an overall occupied space. The effect of levitation above the base is just the finishing B&O touch here.
The sliding lamellas do impact oh the sound with the wide opening creating a pseudo 360º sound experience. I would bet it just a matter of sound processing and that it has nothing to do with the position of the lamellas, but it looks cool (although I agree that it's a pity to have them off sight when the speakers are on).
If you have the chance to experience them in person, don't miss it!
A great review, Styrizo! Gracias, tío.
Can you explain further BL20 vs BL28 sound?
Only a few more days ‘til launch!
Currently: BeoLab 17, BeoLab 18, BeoSound Core, Beosound Level, Beosound A1 2nd Gen, BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub, Halo, Essence Remote
Previously: BeoSound 1 non-GVA
Curly: A great review, Styrizo! Gracias, tío. Can you explain further BL20 vs BL28 sound? Only a few more days ‘til launch!
In my opinion, the BL20s provide excellent sound when listened on a seating position but become quite flat if you are wandering around the room. First time I experienced this was on a party at a friend's. Everybody was chatting and sipping their cocktails, with music playing from his 20s. I could clearly tell it was coming from a low height. This doesn't happen with BL18s nor with the new 28s. It's probably just a mindset of my own, but for me it's there ;)
Yes, height makes a great deal of difference which is why speaker stands are used a lot.
I saw the 28s today in the flesh, and I think many if not most will like them.
Personally, I'm not in love with the design, and I doubt they'll become classics like the 18's, but they look good enough in person. I'd think about them in a similar way to the 50's - which while not classic B&O icons, are still decent enough as objects of interest compared to the rest of the loudspeaker market. The vertical line is slightly bothersome to me - but given they'll be open when in use, I guess you kind of accept that its part of the function as well as form.
Sound wise, they're pretty impressive from the 10 minutes or so I listened to them - large, way larger than the 18s soundstage wise, and very bass capable. The track my dealer played was, to be fair, quite bass oriented, and I was taken aback by the bass reproduction. It was almost too much, but again I suspect that was down the track chosen. But otherwise, I can't believe many will not find the sound impressive. I didn't compare them to 20s, so can't comment on that side by side.
Anyway, they're not for me, but I do think they're a very solid addition to the range, especially because of the direct to speaker streaming capabilities. They can also be directly volume controlled (for example if a turntable was connected), which is nice for a set of Beolabs I guess.
I'm also told they can be bought as singles, in case anyone had that use case.
Otherwise, I did buy myself a Level for my bathroom (it sounds excellent enough) - in silver, but with the oak cover, and wall mount. I'll post a picture when mounted.
So all in all a fruitful visit ;-)
Looking forward to see pictures of the Level silver/oak and to hear what you think, when you have used it for a while.
Sandeep, how much extra was the oak grill? Congrats on the purchase. Post pics soon!

Fabulous looking speakers. They have all of the right ingredients to be an iconic B&O speaker.
