Maybe not for General forum ... but then there is a WD vs ATV discussion on here, so here goes.
For some time I have been looking at how to jailbreak a spare ATV to gain access to our slightly underused PLEX library ... but every time I looked at how "complex" (for me) the task seemed my eyes would glaze over and I would fall asleep ....
Today a different approach was announced in the Macworld/PLEX communities so in a spare 30 minutes this evening I thought I would try it .... and BLIMEY IT WORKED (so far I have only played one of my captured music DVDs and flicked through a few Apple Trailers including the latest just added online (this is significant given what you will see below) and it has been rock solid.
Will it be stable over time ?
Will it survive SWMBO at the hand on the Beo4 ?
Will it get nuked by the next ATV update / the next Mac update / the next PLEX update ?
All good questions for which the answer lies in the future

Good luck .... and I *think* it would be easy to backout ... provided you take notes of the before and after settings on the ATV !

OK - I will calm down as it does have some glitches
Most of my captured materials work (although I am getting buffering issues on one file at the moment - from memory it is a downloaded flash recording), but I think the main problem (just before going to bed) lies with iTunes files !
