What if you never turn it off and always have a disc loaded? I've done this since my first Magnavox in 1987.

It may work, but I like to have it working like it should, and if I leave a disk in the player, our local born house cleaning specialist, put the CD case in between the 300 other CDs and I have to start searching for it.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Understood.
The standing order in my house is, never touch the case on display next to the CD X.
Hi guys,
chartz:It would be nice if the radial balance setting solved our problem
Here's what I did:
no need for zero defects CD
And no need for an oscilloscope, so Sören a plain DVM will do...
The 100k will not help if the track STARTS some seconds after the beginning of the track; only if it PLAYS but is muted (see time display)
Good luck...
Gunther
Done it. TP6 wasn't exactly where it's supposed to be as per the service manual But the adjustments were a doddle to make. They were out by 0.2 and 0.4V. Now very close to zero. Let's see what it does to the player being fussy about some CDs.
Peter's scan is difficult to read,
CD50 warming up!
Jacques
Okay.
The Fame CD which refused to start at 0:00 now does. Before it refused to play it until 0:08 and made a mess of return to track one.
I think that Gunther was right
No cigar yet, let's see what happens in the next few days or weeks. Can you imagine any workshop doing that?

Keep reporting Jacques, I always get afraid when the manuals tells me to desolder and short things,
Nothing to solder/unsolder here, don't be afraid!
chartz:No cigar yet
No problem, non-smoker
Thank you Gunther. Actually I don't smoke either. Never have, never will. But I do drink Champagne (at €15 a bottle here, it's no luxury anyway)!
The dreaded Beatles CD (2010 remaster) is now read, but getting to focus on track one takes a bit less than 10 seconds. Other CDs take less than five, with "good" ones taking about three. But access to the TOC is fast enough.
Clearly, Philips CDM mechs were much better, noise apart. The Aiwa mech, once it's reading, is very silent. But it really makes all sorts of funny noises before accessing the TOC!
Sound-wise, it is very sweet. Not super-detailed but very musical to my 48-year-old ears. The CD 5500 is less laid-back and has a more prominent treble, with plenty of detail. The CDX perhaps remains my favourite. But I'd say the CD50 is the runner-up (as far as B&O CD players are concerned).
Hi,
CD50 still works normally. Can you spot the differences with yours?
Remote control
Honestly, I don't know what that extra board is. I don't have the extra one you show underneath PC7. I wish it was the remote control!

Is this pic from your CD50 Jacques, its not from mine, I dont have the small PCB

Need a remote reciever? I can send an untested board for you if you pay the post.
blah-blah and photographs as needed
Deal!
Thanks!
Are the codes specific to that machine, or will it work with any Aiwa CD remote?
I remember someone (Dillen??) saying something like there were almost as many different versions of the CD50 internally than there were total sales! (most of which were not documented in the service manual)!
Ban boring signatures!

Dont know, how about those unversal remotes? I think that best possible way to get CD terminal in my hands is abandon of reciever... Anyway too much stuff on my shelfs too long time. I check postal charge, possible inside EU not much... PM your adress to me.
Email sent. Not sure it worked!

Got it.
The PCB is shown in the online manual, Page 1-10, PCB 6.
Yes. Does anybody know what ir codes the CD50 will understand then?
Yesterday I made the 7 pin Din cable, from CD50 to BM 5000, until now I was running it on RCA connectors, I made it 40 Cm long from an 8 strand data transfer cable, works OK and no difference in sound from the RCA line connection, my hearing isn't the best.
Beware of bad quality Din connectors, they melt when trying to solder on them, even the good ones need a heat dispenser, but the bad ones melt anyway.
The failure with not playing the first seconds of the first CD is limited to playing first CD when coming from power of after more than 2 hours, leaving the CD50 on standby with CD loaded gives no problem.
Jacques, do you still have this problem after adjusting the focus Voltage.
No I don't. It now works normally.
I use good quality metal DIN plugs made in England and they don't pose any heat/melting problems!
As for sound quality, I can't really hear any differences either unless I convince myself I do!
Fitted the ir module. A tight fit! (click to enlarge)
PCB6 (seen as 9 here) and detector board PCB.
I'm going to try a Logitech Harmony 650 handset, I'll let you know if it works at all... (Thanks Nick!)
Well the Logitech will only control the CD50 through the Beomaster, that works.. Hard luck, back to CD Terminal...
However, the Logitec can learn from an existing remote... But someone would have to lend me his...
Never mind! I've just found one in Struer, yes Sir! It is not mint but it comes with a 12-month warranty! (thanks M.)
I'll let you know whether the Logitech can learn its codes or not.
The complete CD50 system! Thanks again to the ones who helped
I've given up on that Logitech thingy. The assistance wasn't of any help. They have removed the CD50 from their database thanks to me!
Just a video remote—good at that, period.
Listening to the CD50 right now. A bit temperamental though. It needs to warm up a bit to be able to read something...
But it completes the Beolab 5000 system perfectly, sound-wise!
chartz:Listening to the CD50 right now. A bit temperamental though. It needs to warm up a bit to be able to read something.
I had the problem with 1st disc starting at 15-20 seconds, but now I can play one or two discs and then I load the 3rd disc, and nothing happens, it shows the track numbers and in the right hand display it shows a 1, I cant open the tray again and remote or direct commands does not work. After cooling of for a couple of hours I can start over again and after 1 or 2 discs the same failure again. This started 3 days ago and I have had no time to look into it.
My guess is motor lubrication. Let me know when you tackle this!
I don't get it. Today my CD50 worked normally: I inserted a CD from cold (a crappy mag demo one) and it went straight into reading mode.

Cold I have only the problem with, starting 15 to 20 seconds into first track, after 1 or 2 discs the problems I mentioned before comes up.
Then our problems are different... Or are they?
I cant get at the CD50 before I finish my BM 4400, that one is really bugging me,
'Course...
Jacques, I´m going to check my CD50 tomorrow, I have to wait for spares for my BM 4400, first the motor, if that doesn´t work then the 100KR that Mika suggested, then the focus adjust if I have to.
