Bought a book on Amazon about 10 days ago. In order to get the order over $25 for free shipping to kick in, I also bought a new (LP) copy of The Beatles (i.e., The White Album). Received it in the mail yesterday and listened. If some of the online reviews dissing the new Beatles releases have convinced you not to buy, I can at least vouch for The Beatles. Sounds fantastic and the packaging is first rate. I won't be using the inner sleeves, but I generally replace those on all purchases.

Currently playing on my CD50, through 1970 Beolab 5000 integrated:

But then my 30-year-old LP also sounds great, especially if I hit the MONO button. I'd like to know whether the new pressing sounds any better or not.
Between classes today, I went and picked up a CD copy of Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard, something I've learned to like a lot on vinyl. Well, unfortunately I must report that the CD has been 'remastered' - and we all know what that means. While there are some signs of level modulation and loudness, it isn't that bad. However, it clips outrageously at the first sign of volume.
I was hoping this disc would make it into my stereo-demo playlists but it sadly won't.
Steer clear if that album your about to buy was remastered by Polydor.
On a brighter note, I also picked up some modern tunes. The latest(?) album from the Heartless Bastards - The Mountain. <-Outstanding! (musically, that is, not sonically)

Not too impressed, but the big lady from Alabama Shake, that performed in a group with a lot of other artists, impressed me deeply, what a voice.
Yesterday I went shopping in the Zocalo (city center), in a small street I saw an antic book store, so antic that you could smell the old books on the street, I went in there just to take a look, in a corner they had about 100 LPs, no price tags, no signs what so ever, just one big box with the LPs. I checked all of them, not much for the collection, but I found 3 LPs that looked good, not the covers, but the records, 1 of them a 3 record set, Franck Pourcel, instrumental. Not my music, but the records in it looks like they never been played, another was Merry Christmas with Bing Crosby, a must have as it looked pristine, no scratches what so ever, but dirty. The third find was The Dukes of Dixieland, one track was damaged but the rest good looking. I went to the cashier to pay my due, and you wont believe me, I payed 10 MXP for all 3 records,(thats about USD 0.80) cheapest records I ever bought. When time allows I will explore the whole neighborhood, there are more book and antic stores in there. That Dixie record is a very good pressing. the other ones I have to clean and listen to.
Dixieland playing now
Wonderful find!
¡Estoy tan celoso!

I am listening to my just arrived Yello album featuring “Oh Yea!” and it is terrific mid-eighties disco at its zenith.
Oh Yea!
Phallus Dei - Amon Duul II
With the house to myself I decided this was an excellent opportunity to try out my new “Oh Yea” album by Yello. Oh yea!
My Beomaster 4400 was in a good mood today and with its accentuated bass (formally NO bass) gave one hell of a performance; just as I had hoped with very realistic highs and bombastic bass.
I then needed to do some real work upstairs so I decided to give the Beomaster 2400 with its S45 speakers a shot at the iconic music from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “The Secret of My Success.”
Anyone familiar with my postings knows I have a tendency towards redundancy (I prefer to think of it as consistency) none the less I was amazed at the sound quality of the all-original Beomaster 2400 and those arguably small speakers.
My Beomaster 2400 dependably does an excellent job, but with the right material the sound was outstanding. Crisp highs and thunderous bass, in all respects superior to the performance of the Beomaster 4400 and its S75 speakers. Incredible sound.
So if you enjoyed either movie I rather suspect you would enjoy the “Oh Yea” soundtrack. I was fortunate enough to find a vinyl copy which I feel adds to the pleasure.

Hipster!
But actually very good stuff!
Just discovered the Basil Hogios... very interesting and creative stuff.
Discovered via this video http://www.basilhogios.com.au/film-apricot.html - listen to the piano at the end, absolutely brilliant. Its very simple and far too short but is interesting tonally. Can't wait to pipe this through some S45-2s tomorrow!

Is that a BG4500?
It is a pleasure to have a peak at these posting once in a while - much to explore and much to learn.
All that different music - I love it!
So, now here is what I listened to yesterday: Howard Fishman - No Further Instructions
I did not know that guy 'till a couple of days ago. Per accident I read about him.....off to Spotify - listening to the 3 albums there.
What a joy! Very well recorded indeed. Quality on Spotify is rather good (wondering if that is the real 320-thing).
As it often happens, I wanted to buy some of that stuff (the cd's to rip to FLAC) - he has made a lot more than those 3 albums.
You can get it from Amazon.de (that is where I usually buy), but unfortunately the price is very high - double up!! Probably because it is import-stuff.
Here is what I read in a review:
"Throw a hammer to a nail and you will hear it ring. Kick on a bit of Howard Fishman and you will hear him sing. Like a freight train traveler, a narrative seems to flow effortlessly through his teeth. His straight-talking delivery holds that true, steady tone of old. The tracks compiled on No Further Instructions are like an intimate conversation between a visionary and a simpleton."
Happy listening Millemissen
